  • To analyze the dynamic acceleration characteristics, it is necessary to identify the acceleration model using some methods that can represent the dynamic properties well. In this sense, fractal methods were used for the verification of characteristics of an acceleration signal. To estimate and analyze the geometry of acceleration signal, a fractal interpolation and its analysis was introduced in this paper. The chaotic nature of acceleration signal was considered in fractal modeling. In this study the fractal signal modeling has brought a focus within the scope of the fractal interpolation and fractal dimension. And a new idea of fractal dimension has been introduced and discussed considering the damping ratio and amplitude for its dynamic properties of the signal. The fractal dimension of acceleration with respect to the scaling factor using fixed data points of 1000 points was calculated and discussed. The acceleration behaviors of this results show some different characteristics. And this fractal analysis can be applied to other signal analysis of several machining such as pendulum type grinding and milling which has many dynamic properties in the signal.

  • Recently, monitoring of tool life is a matter of common interesting because tool life affects precision, productivity and cost in machining process. Especially flank wear has a direct effect on cutting mechanism, so the various pattern of cutting force is obtained experimentally according to variation of wear condition. By investigating cutting force signal, AR(Autoregressive) modeling and correlation dimension analysis is conducted in turning operation. In this modeling and analysis, we extract features through 6th AR model, correlation integral and normalized correlation integral. After the back-propagation model of the neural network is utilized to monitor tool life according to flank wear. As a result. a very reliable classification of tool life was obtained.

  • Purpose: To evaluate the usefulness of fractal analysis for diagnosis of periodontitis. Materials and Methods : Each 30 cases of periapical films of male mandibular molar were selected in normal group and patient group which had complete furcation involvement. They were digitized at 300 dpi, 256 gray levels and saved with gif format. Rectangular ROIs (10×20 pixel) were selected at furcation, interdental crest, and interdental middle 1/3 area. Fractal dimensions were calculated three times at each area by mass radius method and were determined using a mean of three measurements. We compared fractal dimensions at furcation and interdental crest area of normal group with those of patient group. And then we compared ratio of fractal dimensions at furcation area, interdental crest area to interdental middle 1/3 area. Results: Fractal dimension at interdental crest area of normal group was 1.979±0.018 and that of patient group 1.971±0.012 (p>0.05). Fractal dimension at furcation area of normal group was 1.986±0.024 and that of patient group 1.974±0.015 (p<0.05). The ratio of fractal dimension at interdental crest area to interdental middle 1/3 of normal group was 1.003±0.015 and that of patient group 0.993±0.018 (p<0.05). The ratio of fractal dimension at furcation area to interdental middle 1/3 of normal group was 1.006±0.018 and that of patient group 0.994±0.018 (p<0.05). Conclusion : The ratio of fractal dimension at interdental crest and furcation area to interdental middle 1/3 area showed a statistically significant difference between normal and patient group. In conclusion, it is thought that fractal analysis might be useful for the diagnosis of periodontitis.

  • The loss of posterior occlusal support due to tooth loss is likely to lead to compensatory protrusion and labial tilt of the anterior teeth, which may be accompanied by a deep bite and a decrease in vertical dimension. The patient may suffer from a decrease in masticatory efficiency, inaccurate pronunciation, facial appearance changes, and temporomandibular joint disorder, so stable occlusal formation with support of posterior occlusion and restoration of vertical dimension is necessary. We report the case of a patient with reduction of vertical dimension, and inaccurate pronunciation due to multiple tooth loss who underwent full mouth rehabilitation with increased vertical dimension accompanied by phonetic analysis and achieved satisfactory functional and aesthetic results.

  • Fractal dimension has been used for texture analysis as it is highly correlated with human perception of surface roughness and applied to quantifying the structures of wide range of objects in biology and medicine. On the other hand, the evaluation of the human skin state is based solely on the subjective assessment of clinicians; this assessment may vary from moment to moment and from rater to rater. Therefore we attempt to analysis of skin texture image using fractal dimension and discuss its application to evaluating human skin state. It can be helpful for extracting human features and also can be useful for detection of many human skin diseases. This paper presents a method to calculate fractal dimension of skin with use of camera lens magnification. We take multiple pictures frequently from skin with different camera lens magnification as a magnification factor of fractal set, and counting the number of objects (cells) in each picture as a number of self similar pieces of fractal set.

  • Software dimension reduction identifies the commonality of elements and extracts important feature elements. So it reduces complexity by simplify and solves multi-collinearity problems. And it reduces redundancy by performing redundancy and noise detection. In this study, we proposed defect severity-based dimension reduction model. Proposed model is applied defect severity-based NASA dataset. And it is verified the number of dimensions in the column that affect the severity of the defect. Then it is compares and analyzes the dimensions of the data before and after reduction. In this study experiment result, the number of dimensions of PC4's dataset is 2 to 3. It was possible to reduce the dimension.

  • There is increasing awareness in the international alliance literature that the firm performance effects of the alliance portfolio go beyond the effects of the individual alliances. I enrich this nascent perspective by developing a alliance portfolio composition framework based on the alliance portfolio dimensions - underpinned by the simultaneity of quantitative and qualitative factors in international portfolio - that enhances firms' financial performance. This paper assesses the impact on firm performance of composing the alliance dimension within a firm's international alliance portfolio. In an unbalanced panel data analysis with fixed effects of the performance of 502 firms operating in the Korean manufacturing industry during 2011-2017, I test whether firm's three dimension of international alliance portfolio affect on firm financial performance. I find that the intensity of international alliance have significantly positive effect on the firm performance. And following the moderating analysis of three portfolio dimension-functional, relational, and attribute, all of each three international alliance portfolio has positive moderating effects on the relationship between the alliance intensity and firm performance. These results indicate that firms should consider and form simultaneous approaches to exploit the international alliance based on the alliance portfolio dimensions with intensity of alliance portfolio.
