A cationic surfactant, cetyltrimethylammonium $\rho$-toluenesufonate (CTA$\rho$TS), forms long threadlike micelles in aqueous solution. The threadlike micelles make concentrated entanglement networks, so that the solution shows pronounced viscoelastic behavior as concentrated polymer systems do. However, a mechanism for a process responsible for the longest relaxation time of the threadlike micellar system is different from that of semi-dilute to concentrated polymer systems. The threadlike micellar system exhibits unique viscoelasticity described by a Maxwell model. The longest relaxation time of the threadlike micellar system is not a function of the concentration of CTA$\rho$TS, but changes with that of $\rho$-toluenesufonate ($\rho$$TS^{-}$) ions in the bulk aqueous phase supplied by adding sodium $\rho$-toluenesulfonate (NapTS). The rates of molecular motions in the threadlike micelles are not influenced by the concentration of $\rho$$TS^{-}$ anions, therefore, molecular motions in the threadlike micelles (micro-dynamics) are independent of the longest relaxation mechanism (macro-dynamics). A nonionic surfactant, oleyldimethylamineoxide (ODAO), forms long threadlike micelles in aqueous solution without any additives. The aqueous threadlike micellar system of ODAO also shows Maxwell type viscoelastic behavior. However, the relaxation mechanism for the longest relaxation process in the system should be different from that in the threadlike micellar systems of CTA$\rho$TS, since the system of ODAO does not contain additive anions. Because increase in the average degree of protonation of head groups of ODAO molecules in micelles due to adding hydrogen bromide causes the relaxation time remarkably longer, changes in micro-structure and micro-dynamics in the threadlike micelle are closely related to macro-dynamics in contrast with the threadlike micellar system of CTA$\rho$TS.
We assayed the effects of simulated acid rain on the mass loss, $CO_2$ evolution, dehydrogenase activity, and microbial biomass-C of decomposing Sorbus alnifolia leaf litter at the microcosm. The dilute sulfuric acid solution composed the simulated acid rain, and the microcosm decomposition experiment was performed at 23$^{\circ}C$ and 40% humidity. During the early decomposition stage, decomposition rate of S. alnifolia leaf litter, and microbial biomass, $CO_2$ evolution and dehydrogenase activity were inhibited at a lower pH; however, during the late decomposition stage, these characteristics were not affected by pH level. The fungal component of the microbial community was conspicuous at lower pH levels and at the late decomposition stage. Conversely, the bacterial community was most evident during the initial decomposition phase and was especially dominant at higher pH levels. These changes in microbial community structure resulting from changes in microcosm acidity suggest that pH is an important aspect in the maintenance of the decomposition process. Litter decomposition exhibited a positive, linear relationship with both microbial respiration and microbial biomass. Fungal biomass exhibited a significant, positive relationship with $CO_2$ evolution from the decaying litter. Acid rain had a significant effect on microbial biomass and microbial community structure according to acid tolerance of each microbial species. Fungal biomass and decomposition activities were not only more important at a low pH than at a high pH but also fungal activity, such as $CO_2$ evolution, was closely related with litter decomposition rate.
In recent, occupational diseases in harmful working places become a social issue. It is the well-known fact that a respiration in polluted working places exert a serious effect on health of workers. Accordingly, the cutting off contaminants air originally is the best way to improve working environments. In these cases, ventilation systems should be essentially installed to dilute or exhaust the contaminated indoor air. In this study, we investigated the characteristics of ventilation system of the noxious gas in working indoor places with natural ventilation by using COMET. The numerical simulations were carried out the natural ventilation with two phase(air, dust). For turbulent flow, Reynolds stresses were closed by the standard $\kappa$-$\varepsilon$ model. The results are as follows ; 1) In the natural exhaust in the working place, the flows of the central region have a more rapid velocity vector than the right and left one. 2) Numerical results show that the distribution of contaminants concentration have greater influence on convection than the case of diffusion by government of velocity vectors. 3) To observe the velocity variation with distance, three location of distance are considered. As results, it shows that the velocity are 0.075(m/s) at y=5(m), 10(m) and mean concentration are raised 10.6% at y=5(m), 10(m). 4) We have presented the useful data for the adequate counterplan in the harmful working places by carrying out the various investigation of the natural ventilation.
The effects of gas velocity and solid circulation rate on the axial solid holdup distribution have been determined in a 10 mm-I.D. ${\times}$ 800 mm-high circulating fluidized bed plasma reactor under reduced pressure (1torr). Polystyrene polymer powder and nitrogen gas are used as solid and gas materials respectively. The change of solid circulation rate by a large gas flow rate of the riser (40~80 sccm) is also possible by a relatively small gas flow rate of the solid recirculation part (6.6~9.9 sccm). The solid circulation rate in the reactor under reduced pressure increases with increasing aeration velocity in the solid recirculation part. The axial solid holdup in the riser decreases from the dense at the bottom to the dilute phase at the top section of the riser. Solid holdups at the axial positions in the riser increase linearly with increasing solid circulating velocity. From these results, we could determine the position of plasma load for good plasma ignition, maintain and plasma reaction.
The iron silicide films were prepared by chemical vapor deposition method using rf-plasma in variations of substrate temperature. rf-power, and ratio of $SiH_4$ and Fe-precursor. While iron silicide films are generally grown by ion beam synthesis (IBS) method of multi-step process, it is confirmed that iron silicide or $\beta$-phase consolidated $Fe_aSi_bC_cH_d$ was formed by one-step process in this study. The characteristics of films is variable because the different amounts of carbon and hydrogen was involved in the films as a function of dilute ratio of Fe-precursors and silane. It was shown that the different characteristics of films in carbon and hydrogen following the ratio of Fe-precursor and silane. The optical gap energy of films fabricated according to substrate temperature was invariant because active site brought in desorption of hydrogen was limiled. When rf-power was above 240 watt, the optical gap energy turned out to have high values because of dangling bonds increased by etching.
Direct contact heat exchange (DCHE) method has been employed to investigate the separation of ethanol from dilute aqueous solutions. Bubbles at high temperature were dispersed into a continuous liquid phase, generating temperature gradient in air-liquid interface, which causes heat and mass transfer accordingly. The experiments were performed in the ranges of jet regime air flow. The air-water stripping coefficient increased $5{\sim}10,\;and\;1{\sim}1.5$ times as temperature and air flow rate increased, respectively. The recovery ratio based on the initial ethanol concentration reached into 80% at the air flow rate of 84.88 m/min. The initial ethanol concentration showed little effect on the stripping coefficient and the recovery ratio.
Glass-ceramic materials, which consist of glass matrix phase containing crystalline ${\beta}-Ca_3(PO_4)_2$ and ${\beta}-Ca_2P_2O_7$, have been prepared by heating at $750-900^{\circ}C$ of calcium phosphate invert glasses in the silica-free $CaO-P_2O_5-TiO_2-Na_2O$, system. With increasing heating temperature from 750 to $900^{\circ}C$, the crystallite size of precipitated ${\beta}-Ca_3(PO_4)_2$ in glass with $55CaO{\cdot}35P_2O_5{\cdot}3TiO_2{\cdot}7Na_2O$ (mol%) composition increased from 48 to 91 nm. With the extension of the immersion time in dilute acetic acid solution (pH = 5) to ${\geq}$200 min, the degree of dissolution of $Ca^{2+}$ and $P^{5+}$ ions in the glass-ceramics was linearly increased and the solution was constantly maintained at pH = ~7. Biomimetic nanostructured (62-88 nm in average dia.), sphere-shaped hydroxyapatite was homogeneously formed on the surface of the glass-ceramics when socked for 7-14 days in a Hanks' solution, indicating bioactivity of the prepared glass-ceramics.
Hemicellulosic hydrolysates contain not only sugars but also several kinds of ethanol fermentation inhibitory substances such as carboxylic acids, furans and phenolic compounds. In this work, emulsion liquid membrane (ELM) was chosen as a separation technology to remove the inhibitors. A basic simulated hemicellulosic hydrolysate was composed of xylose as sugar, dilute sulfuric acid solution as solvent, and acetic acid as carboxylic acid, and furfural as furan derivative or p-hydroxybenzoic acid(HBA) as phenolic compound was added to the hydrolysate when necessary. Acetic acid and HBA as weak acid could be selectively removed from the hydrolysates in all the ELM systems considered here, but furfural as aldehyde was quite hard to remove. Also, when HBA was added to the basic simulated hemicellulosic hydrolysate, both of acetic acid and HBA in the feed phase could be selectively removed up to 99% in an ELM system with tributyl phosphate as extractant.

Fluorine-doped YBaS12TCuS13TOS17-xTFS1yT superconducting materials with y varing two orders of magnitude form 0.02 to 2.0 have been prepared by a sol-gel process by using metal nitrate salts, sodium hydroxide and sodium fluoride. Fluorine contents have been measured using an ion-selective electrode. All fluorine doped as reactant were found to be present in the resulted samples. From the observation of XRD it has been concluded that the samples with y 0.2 formed simply the single phase of perovskite structure, whereas those with y 0.5 yielded together some compounds such as BaFS12T, YFS13T and CuO in the resulted samples. The observation of solid state S019TF NMR has been carried out in order to check whether fluorine was actually incorporated into the lattice sites, and the experimental results revealed that the mole ratio of fluorine incorporated into the lattice sites of YBaS12TCuS13TOS17-xT was approximately 0.2 per mole of the compound. Also electrical resistivity measurement indicated that onset transition temperature has the tendency to increase slightly with increasing y in the dilute region as y 0.2.

In this work, direct contact 4-stage fluidized bed heat exchanger is experimentally studied to develop a new type of heat exchanger which recovers the energy contained in the high temperature waste gas exhausted from the industrial furnaces. A sand is used as a heat transfer medium in this experiment. To determine the optimum operating condition, 11 different perforated plates which have a different free area ratio with different hole diameter are used in the experiment. From the room temperature experiment, the pressure drop which is caused by fluidized bed formation is observed. The high temperature experiment is carried out to seek the optimum operating condition of high heat efficiency at low heat exchanger operation cost. The results of experiment are as following. The pressure drop in the high temperature condition can be predicted from the results of the room temperature experiment. And Nusselt number becomes smaller due to the increased interference between sand particles as Reynolds number increases when the dilute phase fluidized beds are formed in nigh temperature condition. But heat transfer amount through the total sand surface area become larger due to the large resident amount of sand. Considering the heat transfer amount and the heat exchanger operation cost, perforated plates which have either a 30% or 35% of free area ratio with 15mm of hole diameter are best fitted for our goal of this work. The values of .phi. which is a dimensionless number representing the absorption heat amount per unit sand rate are in the range from 0.4 to 0.5, when Reynolds number of waste gas ranges from 25-30 with these perforated plates.
