The current study describes a case of endometrial polyps accompanied by an open-cervix pyometra in a 15-year-old female Chinchilla Persian cat. The cat was presented with a history of a large mass in the endometrium and purulent discharge from the vulva. Ovariohysterectomy was performed and pedunculated polypoid mass on the endometrium was seen protruded into the uterine cavity. Histologically, the mass was composed of multiple cystically dilated glands surrounded by fibrous stroma. Based on gross and histologic findings, the diagnosis for this case was concluded.
Rectal stricture occurred in 2 finishing pigs submitted for necropsy from Moguchon, the meat processing plant, chonbuk. Grossly, the wall of the rectum was harden and thickened by fibrous tissue. Anteriro to the stricture, the descending colon was dilated up to 30cm in diameter, filled with gas and pasty green fluidal feces. Histologically, the epithelia of rectal mucosa were necrotized. The mucosa and submucosa of rectum were infiltrated by macrophages, eosinophils and lymphocytes. This infiltration was the most extensive in the deeper layer of submucosa and intensive fibrosis was observed in deeper submucosa layer. This case is report for rectal stricture of finishing pig.
A case of malignant fibrous histiocytoma [MFH] of left pulmonary artery was reported in the 27 year-old male. He was admitted because of hemoptysis for several times. Chest x-ray revealed nodular lesions in left hilar area and left upper lobe. A left thoracotomy was performed followed left upper lobectomy. The main tumor was originated from the pulmonary arterial bifurcation and proximal portion of the left pulmonary artery. By light microscopy, there were many pleomorphic giant cells, which displayed the storiform pattern. And in those area, dilated or compressed vascular channels were involved by tumor cells, suggesting origin of This tumor. Pulmonary artery angiography and chest CT revealed this tumor was originated from pulmonary artery. It would be the first reported primary malignant fibrous histiocytoma of the pulmonary artery in our country. Postoperative prognosis was uneventful, but recently he was suffered from dyspnea, that was noticed by OVD follow-up for 1 month, probably the heart failure sign due to pulmonary arterial flow obstruction.
We have experienced a rare case of traumatic ventricular septal defect caused by fall down injury. The patient suffered from congestive heart failure after trauma and represented new developing typical murmur. Cardiac catheterization revealed a large left-to-right shunt at the ventricular level and a 4.4:1 ratio of pulmonary to systemic flow. Left ventricular angiogram also showed ventricular septal defect low in the muscular septum. At operation, the right ventricle and pulmonary artery were found to be moderately dilated. A marked systolic thrill was palpable over the right ventricle near the apex. Through a small left ventriculotomy an oval defect, 2x.3 cm with a firm scarred margin, was found in the lower muscular ventricular septum. This defect was repaired using Dacron patch and ventriculotomy was closed with long strip of Teflon felt. Postoperative course was uneventful and discharged in good condition.
A-13-urar-old with a history of Alport syndrome had been suffering from progressive dysphagia and postprandial vomiting for over 7 years. Exophagogram and manoemtric studies were consistent with achalasia. Barum study demonstrated marked esophageal dilatation and smooth tapered narrowing of the distal esophagus. However in spite of the medical treatment including the injection of the distal esophagus. However in spite of the medical treatment including the injection of botulinum toxin at the lesion site using an endoscope symptom did not improved and he suffered growth failure and malnutrition. Esophagectomy and esophagogastrostomy were performed to relieve the dysphagia. A firm circumferential intramural mass about 7$\times$5$\times$5 cm was found in the distal esophagus. The lumen of the esophagus was markedly dilated and esophageal wall was hypertrophied. Histologic examination of the neoplasm revealed a rather ill defined tumor tissue consisting of interlacing or whirling spindle cells without significant mitosis and esophageal leiomyo-matosis was confirmed. The patient was discharged uneventfully.
Intracranial pial arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs) are rare vascular lesions of the brain. These lesions consist of one or more arterial connection to a single venous channel without true intervening nidus. A 24-year-old woman visited to our hospital because of headache, vomiting, dizziness and memory disturbance that persisted for three days. She complained several times of drop attack because of sudden weakness on both leg. Cerebral angiograms demonstrated a giant venous aneurysm on right frontal lobe beyond the genu of corpus callosum, multiple varices on both frontal lobes fed by azygos anterior cerebral artery, and markedly dilated draining vein into superior sagittal sinus, suggesting single channel pial AVF with multiple varices. Transarterial coil embolization of giant aneurysm and fistulous portion resulted in complete disappearance of pial AVF without complication.
Intracranial dural arteriovenous fistulas (DAVFs) are abnormal arteriovenous connections that lie within the dura. Intraosseous DAVFs involving diploic venous system are extremely rare. A 46-year-old woman presented with headache and right pulsatile tinnitus for three weeks. The tinnitus started after yelling. Digital subtraction angiography revealed DAVF within the basal portion of right parietal bone along the middle meningeal artery (MMA) groove. The fistula was fed by frontal branch of right MMA and drained into right transverse sigmoid sinus junction through dilated middle meningeal vein. The intraosseous DAVF involving diploic vein was successfully obliterated with Onyx embolization via transarterial route.
The author has studied the histochemical changes on rat submaxillary gland histological changes on rat periodontium after administration of isoproterenol. The results are as follows: 1) After administration of isoproterenol, the rat submaxillary glands weight of the first and second group were increased two times compared with control group. 2) The acinar cells of rat submaxillary gland were shown the hypertrophy and enlargement. 3) The PAS staining reaction of the acinar cells of rat submaxillary gland were shown the strong positive reaction. 4) The blood vessels of rat periodontium were dilated and alveolar bone resorption was occurred.
Congenital hepatic fibrosis is an inherited, congenital disorder of the liver characterized by portal hypertension and hepatic fibrosis. We experienced a case of congenital hepatic fibrosis with esophageal varix in a 9-year-old male. He complained hematemesis, hematochezia, dizziness. In laboratory examination, AST/ALT was slightly increased. Esophageal varix was noted by an endoscopic examination. Hepatosplenomegaly and hypoechoic lesion of periportal area were seen by abdominal CT scanning. Histologic finding of liver biopsy showed fibrous tracts containing dilated bile ductules connecting adjacent portal spaces that were widened by mature fibrosis. Endocopic sclerotherpy and ligation was done. We summarized a case with review of literatures
The elongated filamentous haustorial cells, hyphae, of Cuscuta australis R. Brown penetrated into the vascular tissues of the host plant Trifolium repens L. were studied by the light and electron microscopes. The hyphae reached the host xylem were invaded into the host vessels and then they grew within the host vessels. Finally these hyphae were differentiated into the water conducting elements, xylary hyphae, by thickening of the secondary walls. The hyphae reached the host phloem were branched at the apical regions. These hyphae possessed thin-layered cytoplasm involving the typical features of sieve elements such as the parallel arrays of smooth endoplasmic reticulum, plastids with the clusters of fine starch granules, and mitochondria with the dilated cristae. It was indicated that these hyphae were differentiated into the nutrients conducting elements, phloic hyphae. The structures described were compared with those of other parasitic plants and were discussed in view of the translocation of materials from host to parasite.
