  • Two new C2-symmetric chiral $\alpha-$ and w-Diimines incorporating bulky ferrocenylethylamine and their copper(I)complexes have been synthesized and characterized by analytical and various spectroscopic techniques. The catalytic activities of these complexes have been tested in the asymmetric cyclopropanation of a series of olefins with some diazoacetates to achieve varying degree of dia- and enantio-selectivities depending on the nature of the ligand, the substrates, and the reagents. Some mechanistic implication has been made with regard to the interactions among all these chemical species.

  • Synthesis and hydrolysis of aromatic diketimines of triaryl type were investigated by the action of aryl organometallics on the three isomers of phthalonitrile. The reactions of organometallic reagents, prepared from bromobenzene, o-bromotoluene and o-bromoanisol, with iso- and terephthalonitrile proceeded in normal way. Decomposition of the addition complex with dry ammonia, methanol or water gave six diketimines, which could be hydrolysed to the corresponding diketones. Reactions of phthalonitrile with the organometallic reagent were different from the other isomers, so that the decomposition and hydrolysis of the addition complex did not give diimines and the corresponding aromatic diketones.

  • A simple heterogeneous system has been developed by using base treated manganese dioxide (B-$MnO_2$) for the aerobic oxidation of amines under mild reaction conditions of 1 atm of air and $50^{\circ}C$ in hexane. This system was highly efficient to oxidize various kinds of primary or secondary amines including aliphatic, aromatic, and hetero-atomic ones under the applied reaction conditions. Amines were oxidized to nitriles or diimines by the self-condensation or oxidative dehydrogenation through imine intermediate. The B-$MnO_2$ was reused for at least 5 times without any loss of its catalytic performance and showed its cost effectiveness, easy workup, and easy separation of the products for achieving the protocol of green chemistry.
