Correlation Research between Objective and Subjective Image Quality Assessment (객관적 화질 평가와 주관적 화질 평가의 상관관계 연구)

  • Due to the high interests of image quality by consumers, the concerned market becomes more heated. Recent digital camera development tendency shows to perform the higher image quality to meet consumers demand of quality satisfaction. However it is hard to confirm that development of objective image quality performance means positive subjective image quality preference. And also, we cannot find out the previous researches concerned on correlation between objective and subjective image quality comparison. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the consumers preferred images based on objective image quality performance. Throughout this paper, we analyze statistical correlation between the objective and subjective image quality assessment methods by using ISO standards. In these results, we try to find attributes that enhance image quality. We suggest not only to analyze and reflect on customers' preferences, but also to pursue the high quality image performance practically. We expect the results of this paper to positively influence product development.

A study on assessment of bone mass from aluminum-equivalent image by digital imaging system (디지털 영상 시스템을 이용한 알루미늄 당량화상에 의한 골량 측정에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the method for quantitative assessment of bone mass from aluminum-equivalent value of hydroxyapatite by using digital imaging system consisted of Power Macintosh 7200/120, 15-inch color monitor, and GT-9000 scanner with transparency unit. After aluminum-equivalent image made from correlation between aluminum thickness and grey scale, the accuracy of conversion to mass from aluminum-equivalent value was evaluated. Measured bone mass was compared with converted bone mass from aluminum-equivalent value of hydroxyapatite block by correlation formula between aluminum-equivalent value of hydroxyapatite block and hydroxyapatite mass. The results of this study were as follow; 1. Correlation between aluminum thickness and grey level for obtaining aluminum-equivalent image was high positively associated(r²=0.99). Converted masses from aluminum-equivalent value were very similar to measured masses. There was, statistically, no significant difference(P<0.05) between them 2. Correlation between hydroxyapatite aluminum-equivalent and hydroxyapatite mass was shown to linear relation (r²=0.95). 3. Converted masses from aluminum-equivalent value of 3 dry mandible segments were similar to measured masses. The difference between the exposure directions was not significantly different(P<0.05).

  • Watermarking is one of the methods that insist on a copyright as it append digital signals in digital informations like still image, video, ets. This paper proposed a novel digital watermarking scheme which combines a QR code and a watermarking method using DCT coefficient. It proposed an algorithm for selecting a QR code from a image and to be converted into a watermark. It processed a watermarking process using expanded watermarking method in DCT area. This simulation results showed that the PSNR difference between the proposed scheme and the original image was 33.98dB and the normalized correlation between the proposed scheme and the original image was above 99.51. The proposed method is reusable.

Region-based Spectral Correlation Estimator for Color Image Coding (컬러 영상 부호화를 위한 영역 기반 스펙트럴 상관 추정기)

  • This paper is related to the Region-based Spectral Correlation Estimation(RSCE) coding method that makes it possible to achieve the high-compression ratio by estimating color component images from luminance image. The proposed method is composed of three steps. First, Y/C bit-plane summation image is defined using normalized chrominance summation image and luminance image, and then the Y/C bit-plane summation image is segmented for extracting the shape information of the regions. Secondly, the scale factor and the offset factor minimizing the approximation square errors between luminance image and R, B images by the each region are calculated. Finally, the scale factor and the offset factor for the each region are encoded into bit stream. Referring to the results of computer simulation, the proposed method provides more than two or three times higher compression ratio than JPEG/Baseline or JPEG2000/EBCOT algorithm in terms of bpp needed for encoding two color component images with the same PSNR.

  • As a tool for strain measurement to work with screw driven or hydraulic material test systems, in which mechanical vibration is inherent, SSDG(Speckle Strain/Displacement Gage), ESP(Electronic Speckle Photography) and its 3-dimension version SDSP are investigated for the theory and practical appliance. Through tension test of steel strips, their validity and shortcomings are examined. As the results, it has been shown that, although SSDG and ESP provide direct measurement of in-plane strain in one direction, they are so sensitive to the out-plane displacement. On the other hand, SDSP which is aided with DIC (Digital Image Correlation) technique to trace the movement of the speckles provides not only in-plane 2-dimensional displacement field, but also out-of-plane displacement simultaneously. However, because the DIC is time-consuming, not automated yet and it needs post-processing to evaluate strain from the displacement field, SDSP appears to be not adequate as a real time sensor.

  • This paper describes the fuel spray characteristics of gasoline port injectors such as the breakup procedures of liquid fuel, breakup and extinction behaviors of fuel spray at nozzle tip, time history of SMD and velocity distribution of fuel spray in the direction of fuel stream. Pintle-type gasoline fuel injector was used to analyze mentioned spray characteristics. In order to visualize the fuel spray behaviors and to measure the droplet mean diameter and velocities of spray droplets, the Schlieren method, digital image processing and auto-correlation PIV were applied in this study. In addition, the spray characteristics according to the variation of time were considered. The results of fuel spray show that the liquid sheet breakup starts at 10mm downstream actively. The flying time is approximately 4msec between 50mm and 80mm down the nozzle tip. Also, SMD of fuel spray, the number of droplets and fuel velocity distribution at each point of downstream are discussed.

Digital Particle Holographic System for Flow-Field Measurements (유동장 계측을 위한 디지털 입자 홀로그래피 시스템)

  • In this study, a digital particle holographic system and its application to channel-flow measurements were investigated. A double-exposure hologram recording system that is capable of recording digital holograms in a short time interval was developed. A correlation coefficient method was used to determine the focal plane of particles. The Wiener filter was used to remove noises and improve image quality. Two-threshold and image segmentation methods were used for binary image transformation. The cross-correlation method was used for particle pairing. The developed system was employed to study channel flow fields, and the axial velocities of channel flow were measured. The measurement errors are acceptable, and this proves the feasibility of using the digital particle holographic system as a good tool for flow-field measurements.

DIGITAL IMAGE PROCESSING AND CLINICAL APPLICATION OF VIDEODENSITOMETER (실험적으로 제작한 Videodensitometer의 디지털 영상처리와 임상적 적용에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to propose the utility which was evaluated the digital image processing and clinical application of the videodensitomery. The experiments were performed with IBM-PC/16bit-AT compatible, video camera(CCdtr55, Sony Co., Japan), an color monitor(MultiSync 3D, NEC, Japan) providing the resolution of 512×480 and 64 levels of gray. Sylvia Image Capture Board for the ADC(analog to digital converter) was used, composed of digitized image from digital signal and the radiographic density was measured by 256 level of gray. The periapical radiograph(Ektaspeed EP-21, Kodak Co., U. S. A) which was radiographed dried human mandible by exposure condition of 70 kVp and 48 impulses, was used for primary X-ray detector. And them evaluated for digitzed image by low and high pass filtering, correlations between aluminum equivalent values and the thickness of aluminum step wedge, aluminum equivalent values of sound enamel, dentin, and alveolar bone, the range of diffuse density for gray level ranging from 0 to 255. The obtained results were as follows: 1. The edge between aluminum steps of digitized image were somewhat blurred by low pass filtering, but edge enhancement could be resulted by high pass filtering. Expecially, edge enhancement between distal root of lower left 2nd molar and alveolar lamina dura was observed. 2. The correlation between aluminum equivalent values and the thickness of aluminum step wedge was intimated, yielding the coefficient of correlation r=0.9997(p<0.00l), the regression line was described by Y=0.9699X+0.456, and coefficient of variation amounting to 1.5%. 3. The aluminum equivalent values of sound enamel, dentin, and alvolar bone were 15.41㎜, 12.48㎜, 10.35㎜, respectively. 4. The range of diffuse density for gray level ranging from 0 to 255 was wider enough than that of photodenstiometer to be within the range of 1-4.9.

Opto-Digital Implementation of Multiple Information Hiding & Real-time Extraction System (다중 정보 은폐 및 실시간 추출 시스템의 광-디지털적 구현)

  • In this paper, a new opto-digital multiple information hiding and real-time extracting system is implemented. That is, multiple information is hidden in a cover image by using the stego keys which are generated by combined use of random sequence(RS) and Hadamard matrix(HM) and these hidden information is extracted in real-time by using a new optical correlator-based extraction system. In the experiment, 3 kinds of information, English alphabet of "N", "R", "L" having 512$\times$512 pixels, are formulated 8$\times$8 blocks and each of these information is multiplied with the corresponding stego keys having 64$\times$64 pixels one by one. And then, by adding these modulated data to a cover image of "Lena"having 512$\times$512 pixels, a stego image is finally generated. In this paper, as an extraction system, a new optical nonlinear joint transform correlator(NJTC) is introduced to extract the hidden data from a stego image in real-time, in which optical correlation between the stego image and each of the stego keys is performed and from these correlation outputs the hidden data can be asily exacted in real-time. Especially, it is found that the SNRs of the correlation outputs in the proposed optical NJTC-based extraction system has been improved to 7㏈ on average by comparison with those of the conventional JTC system under the condition of having a nonlinear parameter less than k=0.4. This good experimental results might suggest a possibility of implementation of an opto-digital multiple information hiding and real-time extracting system.
