  • The impedance of the speaker is likely to be recognized as a fixed value. However, speaker impedance continues to vary with frequency variation, especially larger in resonant frequency region. The sound pressure level of loudspeakers is determined by the current flowing throughout the coil that consists loudspeakers. If loudspeakers are driven by voltage, sound pressure level of the loudspeaker is distorted by the variation of loudspeaker impedance. Current-drive of loudspeakers can solve this problem, but distortion of sound pressure level occurs in low frequencies due to resonance. The distortion can degrade the sound quality of the sound system. So to solve this problem, In this paper, we propose a resonance compensation circuit using DSP. we simulates audio systems using an equivalent model of loudspeakers to verify distortion of sound pressure level due to impedance variation and propose a circuit to compensate it. The proposed circuit is configured using a state variable filter and it can adjust the center frequency and output, so it will be used various sound systems.

  • Assistive listening devices (ALDs) refer to various types of amplification equipment designed to improve the communication of individuals with hard of hearing to enhance the accessibility to speech signal when individual hearing instruments are not sufficient. There are many types of ALDs to overcome a triangle of speech to noise ratio (SNR) problems, noise, distance, and reverberation. ALDs vary in their internal electronic mechanisms ranging from simple hard-wire microphone-amplifier units to more sophisticated broadcasting systems. They usually use microphones to capture an audio source and broadcast it wirelessly over a frequency modulation (FM), infra-red, induction loop, or other transmission techniques. The seven types of ALDs are introduced including hardwire devices, FM sound system, infra-red sound system, induction loop system, telephone listening devices, television, and alert/alarm system. Further development of digital wireless technology in hearing instruments will make possible direct communication with ALDs without any accessories in the near future. There are two technology solutions for digital wireless hearing instruments improving SNR and convenience. One is near-field magnetic induction combined with Bluetooth radio frequency (RF) transmission or proprietary RF transmission and the other is proprietary RF transmission alone. Recently launched digital wireless hearing aid applying this new technology can communicate from the hearing instrument to personal computer, phones, Wi-Fi, alert systems, and ALDs via iPhone, iPad, and iPod. However, it comes with its own iOS application offering a range of features but there is no option for Android users as of this moment.

  • In this paper, we propose a method of a sound synthesis of Korean plucked string instrument, gayageum, by physical modeling which use impulse responses of body and Anjok. Gayageum consists of three kinds of systems: string, body, and Anjok. These are a serial combination of linear time invariant systems. String can be modeled by digital delay line. Body and Anjok can be estimated by their impulse responses. We found three resonance frequencies in the body impulse response, and implemented resonator as body. Anjok was implemented as high pass filter in fundamental frequency band of gayageum. RMSEs of synthesized sounds are distributed from 0.01 to 0.03. It was difficult to distinguish the resulting synthesized sounds from the originals sound by ear.

  • This paper present as experimental demonstratio of DSP and a sensory actuator that is used to actively control sound transmission/radiation through a vibrating plate. A plane acoustic wave incident on a clamped, thin circular plate was used as a noise source, and a sensory actuator bounded to the plate was used to control and sense vibration of the plate. The sound transmission reduction problem was tranformed as a structural vibration control problem that actively control the structural vibration modes coupled to acoustic modes. The results show that the first structural vibration mode is controlled with a reduction of 78 percent in the displacement and velocity of the plate. This corresponds to a 13dB reduction in the acoustic response. These experimental results indicate that a sensory actuator bounded to the plate can be employed to attenuate the sound transmitted to radiated from the plate.

  • Actually, a present traffic accident detection system is subsisting limitation of accurate distinction under the crowded condition at intersection because the system depend upon mainly the image information at intersection and digital image processing techniques nearly all. To complement this insufficiency, this article aims to estimate the level of present technology and a realistic possibility by analyzing the acoustic characteristic of crash sound that we have to investigate fur improvement of traffic accident detection rate at intersection. The skid sound of traffic accident was showed the special pattern at 1[KHz])$\sim$3[KHz] bandwidth when vehicles are almost never operated in and around intersection. Also, the frequency bandwidth of vehicle crash sound was showed sound pressure difference over 30[dB] higher than when there is no occurrence of traffic accident below 500[Hz].

  • This paper describes a sound engine of Korean traditional instruments, which are the Gayageum and Taepyeongso, by using a TMS320F2812. The Gayageum and Taepyeongso models based on commuted waveguide synthesis (CWS) are required to synthesize each sound. There is an instrument selection button to choose one of instruments in the proposed sound engine, and thus a corresponding sound is produced by the relative model at every certain time. Every synthesized sound sample is transmitted to a DAC (TLV5638) using SPI communication, and it is played through a speaker via an audio interface. The length of the delay line determines a fundamental frequency of a desired sound. In order to determine the length of the delay line, it is needed that the time for synthesizing a sound sample should be checked by using a GPIO. It takes $28.6{\mu}s$ for the Gayageum and $21{\mu}s$ for the Taepyeongso, respectively. It happens that each sound sample is synthesized and transferred to the DAC in an interrupt service routine (ISR) of the proposed sound engine. A timer of the TMS320F2812 has four events for generating interrupts. In this paper, the interrupt is happened by using the period matching event of it, and the ISR is called whenever the interrupt happens, $60{\mu}s$. Compared to original sounds with their spectra, the results are good enough to represent timbres of instruments except 'Mu, Hwang, Tae, Joong' of the Taepyeongso. Moreover, only one sound is produced when playing the Taepyeongso and it takes $21{\mu}s$ for the real-time playing. In the case of the Gayageum, players usually use their two fingers (thumb and middle finger or thumb and index finger), so it takes $57.2{\mu}s$ for the real-time playing.

  • The use of personal mobility(PM) is increasing because of preading shared mobility, but, it causes risk of accidents and fear to pedestrians because of lack of sound. The purpose of this study is to find out the effects of the alert sound in PM and driving direction on risk perception of pedestrians, awareness on PM driver, and allowance for driving on each road. The 8 videos were produced from a pedestrian perspective, depending on the alert sound type(silent, vess, bell, voice) and direction of driving(front, back). After watching each video, participants completed surveys. There was a non-effect on the driving direction. Regardless of the alert sound type, all of the sounds reduced the risk perception. Also, the awareness of PM drivers and allowance for driving on each road were positive. This study found that PM needed an alert sound for pedestrian safety. We expect the results of the study to help improve awareness of PM and make policies and regulations.
