The study installed non metric camera which was a 10 Mega Pixel camera in RC Helicopter. And the study controlled images hotographed in air on land, considering their overlap. The study could express DEM by abstracting TIN from the acquired images through image registration. Also, the study compared and examined accuracy between reference point and check point observed by Total Station which was a conventional type of survey. As the results, the study could get errors of $-0.194{\sim}0.224\;m$ on X axis, $-0.088{\sim}0.180\;m$ on Y axis and $-0.286{\sim}0.285\;m$ on Z axis. Expressing an error's RMSE in the checkpoint, the study could get of 0.021388 m on X axis, 0.015285 m on Y axis and 0.041872 m on Z axis. It is judged that the above photographing and analyzing technique are better than the existing Total Station to acquire more terrain elevation data.

The digital working environment and its related technology have been rapidly expanding. In the surveying field, we have changed from using optical film cameras and plotters to digital cameras, multi sensors like GPS/INS etc,. The old analog work flow is replaced by a new digital work flow. Accurate data of the land is used in various fields, efficient utilization and management of land, urban planning, disaster and environment management. It is important because it is an essential infrastructure. For this study, LiDAR surveying was used to get points clouds in the study area. It has a high vegetation penetrating advantage and we used a digital process from planning to the final products. Contour lines were made from LiDAR data and compared with national digital base maps (scale 1/1,000 and 1/5,000). As a result, the accuracy and the economical efficiency were evaluated. The accuracy of LiDAR contour data was average $0.089m{\pm}0.062\;m$ and showed high ground detail in complex areas. Compared with 1/1,000 scale contour line production when surveying an area over $100\;km^2$, approximately 48% of the cost was reduced. Therefore we prepose LiDAR surveying as an alternative to modify and update national base maps.

In this paper, a new codebook design algorithm is proposed. It uses a DCT map based on two-dimensional discrete cosine of transform (2D DCT) and finite state vector quantizer (FSVQ) when the vector quantizer is designed for image transmission. We make the map by dividing input image according to edge quantity, then by the map, the significant features of training image are extracted by using the 2D DCT. A master codebook of FSVQ is generated by partitioning the training set using binary tree based on tree-structure. The state codebook is constructed from the master codebook, and then the index of input image is searched at not master codebook but state codebook. And, because the coding of index is important part for high speed digital transmission, it converts fixed length codes to variable length codes in terms of entropy coding rule. The huffman coding assigns transmission codes to codes of codebook. This paper proposes single-side growing huffman tree to speed up huffman code generation process of huffman tree. Compared with the pairwise nearest neighbor (PNN) and classified VQ (CVQ) algorithm, about Einstein and Bridge image, the new algorithm shows better picture quality with 2.04 dB and 2.48 dB differences as to PNN, 1.75 dB and 0.99 dB differences as to CVQ respectively.

The purpose of this study is for the fundamental understandings about building morphological parameters and aerodynamic roughness parameters of Seoul, Korea using the detailed urban geographic information datasets. Applied roughness parameter calculations are based on a digital map of buildings with lot area polygons. The quality of the developed roughness length ($z_0$) of Seoul was evaluated with densely installed 107 automatic weather stations. The correlation coefficient results between averaged wind speeds of AWS data and averaged $z_0$ is -0.303 in night and -0.398 in day (200 m radii circles case). Further $z_0$ enhancement should follow by considering other surface features such as high tree and orography of Seoul. However, this study would meet the needs to for local- or meso-scale meteorological modeling applications of Seoul. However, further studies would require for enhancing the $z_0$ applications of Seoul.

In this paper, we proposed the method automatically to match areal feature based on similarity using spatial information. For this, we extracted candidate matching pairs intersected between two different spatial datasets, and then measured a shape similarity, which is calculated by an weight sum method of each matching criterion automatically derived from CRITIC method. In this time, matching pairs were selected when similarity is more than a threshold determined by outliers detection of adjusted boxplot from training data. After applying this method to two distinct spatial datasets: a digital topographic map and street-name address base map, we conformed that buildings were matched, that shape is similar and a large area is overlaid in visual evaluation, and F-Measure is highly 0.932 in statistical evaluation.
This study tried to analyze error range and resolution of drone images using a rotary wing by comparing them with field measurement results and to analyze stands patterns in actual vegetation map preparation by comparing drone images with aerial images provided by National Geographic Information Institute of Korea. A total of 11 ground control points (GCPs) were selected in the area, and coordinates of the points were identified. In the analysis of aerial images taken by a drone, error per pixel was analyzed to be 0.284 cm. Also, digital elevation model (DEM), digital surface model (DSM), and orthomosaic image were abstracted. When drone images were comparatively analyzed with coordinates of ground control points (GCPs), root mean square error (RMSE) was analyzed as 2.36, 1.37, and 5.15 m in the direction of X, Y, and Z. Because of this error, there were some differences in locations between images edited after field measurement and images edited without field measurement. Also, drone images taken in the stream and the forest and 51 and 25 cm resolution aerial images provided by the National Geographic Information Institute of Korea were compared to identify stands patterns. To have a standard to classify polygons according to each aerial image, image analysis software (eCognition) was used. As a result, it was analyzed that drone images made more precise polygons than 51 and 25 cm resolution images provided by the National Geographic Information Institute of Korea. Therefore, if we utilize drones appropriately according to characteristics of subject, we can have advantages in vegetation change survey and general monitoring survey as it can acquire detailed information and can take images continuously.

This study was conducted to estimate forest site productivity and productive areas of Quercus acutissima and Quercus mongolica using environmental factors including climatic variables. Using the data set from digital forest site map and forest climatic map, a total of 42 environmental variables were regressed on site index for developing the best site index equations for Quercus acutissima and Quercus mongolica. Five to six environmental factors by species were selected as independent variables in the best site index equations. For the site index equations, three evaluation statistics (i.e., mean difference, standard deviation of difference, and standard error of difference) were applied to the test data set for the validation of the results, The site index equations fitted well to the test data set with relatively low bias and variation. As a result, it was concluded that the site index equations by species were well capable of estimating site quality. Finally, based on the site index equations, the productive areas by species were estimated by applying GIS technique to the digital forest maps. In addition, the distribution of productive areas by species was illustrated.

Automatic, yet reliable methods to find and classify barred galaxies are going to be more important in the era of large galaxy surveys. Here, we introduce a new approach to classify barred galaxies by analyzing the butterfly pattern that Buta & Block (2001) reported as a bar signature on the potential map. We make it easy to find the pattern by moving the ratio map from a Cartesian coordinate to a polar coordinate. Our volume-limited sample consists of 1698 spiral galaxies brighter than Mr = -15.2 with z < 0.01 from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey/DR7 visually classified by Ann et al. (2015). We compared the results of the classification obtained by four different methods: visual inspection, ellipse fitting, Fourier analysis, and our new method. We obtain, for the same sample, different bar fractions of 63%, 48%, 36%, and 56% by visual inspection, ellipse fitting, Fourier analysis, and our new approach, respectively. Although automatic classifications detect visually determined, strongly barred galaxies with the concordance of 74% to 86%, automatically selected barred galaxies contain different amount of weak bars. We find a different dependence of bar fraction on the Hubble type for strong and weak bars: SBs are preponderant in early-type spirals, whereas SABs are in late-type spirals. Moreover, the ellipse fitting method often misses strongly barred galaxies in the bulge-dominated galaxies. These explain why previous works showed the contradictory dependence of the bar fraction on the host galaxy properties. Our new method has the highest agreement with visual inspection in terms of the individual classification and the overall bar fraction. In addition, we find another signature on the ratio map to classify barred galaxies into new two classes that are probably related to the age of the bar.
The purpose of this study is to improve the classification system of sub-divided land cover map among the land cover maps provided by the Ministry of Environment. To accomplish the purpose, first, the overseas country land cover map classification items were examined in priority. Second, the area ratio of each item established by applying the previous sub-divided classification system was analyzed. Third, the survey on the improvement of classification system targeting the users (experts and general public) who actually used the sub-divided land cover map was carried out. Fourth, a new classification system which improved the previous system by reclassifying 41 classification items into 33 items was finally established. Fifth, the established land cover classification items were applied on study area, and the land cover classification result according to the improvement method was compared with the previous classification system. Ilsan area in Goyang city where there are diverse geographic features with various land surface characteristics such as the urbanization area and agricultural land were distributed evenly were selected as the study area. The basic images used in this study were 0.25 m aerial ortho-photographs captured by the National Geographic Information Institute (NGII), and digital topographic map, detailed stock map plan, land registration map and administrative area map were used as the relevant reference data. As a result of applying the improved classification system into the study area, the area of culture-sports, leisure facilities was $1.84km^2$ which was approximately more than twice larger in comparison to the previous classification system. Other areas such as transportation and communication system and educational administration facilities were not classified. The result of this study has meaningful significance that it reflects the efficiency for the establishment and renewal of sub-divided land cover map in the future and actual users' needs.
Since the release of Meta's Segment Anything Model (SAM), a large-scale vision transformer generation model with rapid image segmentation capabilities, several studies have been conducted to apply this technology in various fields. In this study, we aimed to investigate the applicability of SAM for water bodies detection and extraction using the QGIS Geo-SAM plugin, which enables the use of SAM with satellite imagery. The experimental data consisted of Compact Advanced Satellite 500 (CAS500)-1 images. The results obtained by applying SAM to these data were compared with manually digitized water objects, Open Street Map (OSM), and water body data from the National Geographic Information Institute (NGII)-based hydrological digital map. The mean Intersection over Union (mIoU) calculated for all features extracted using SAM and these three-comparison data were 0.7490, 0.5905, and 0.4921, respectively. For features commonly appeared or extracted in all datasets, the results were 0.9189, 0.8779, and 0.7715, respectively. Based on analysis of the spatial consistency between SAM results and other comparison data, SAM showed limitations in detecting small-scale or poorly defined streams but provided meaningful segmentation results for water body classification.
