It is desirable to use the square grid analysis with the aid of the stereo vision and image processing techniques in order to automatically measure the surface-strain distribution over a stamped part. But this method has some inherent problems such as the difficulty in enhancement of bad images, the measurement error due to the digital image resolution and the limit of the area that can be measured at a time. Therefore, it is still hard to measure the strain distribution over the entire surface of a medium-or large-sized stamped part even by using an automated strain measurement system. In this study, several methods which enable to solve these problems considerably without losing accuracy and precision In measurement are suggested. The superposition of images that have different high-lightened or damaged part from each other gives much enhanced image. A new algorithm for constructing of the element connectivity from the line-thinned image helps recognize up to 1,000 elements. And the geometry assembling algorithm including the global error minimization makes it possible to measure a large specimen with reliability and efficiency.

Polyurethane foams were produced by using a homogenizer as a mixing equipment. Effects of stirring speed on the foam structure were investigated with SEM observations. Variation of the bubble size, density of the foam, compressive strength, and thermal conductivity were studied. A hybrid foam consisting of polyurethane foam and commercial polystyrene foam is produced. Mechanical and thermal properties of the hybrid foam were compared with those of pure polyurethane foam. Advancement of flow front during mold filling was observed by using a digital camcorder. Four types of mold geometry were used for mold filling experiments. Flow during mold filling was analyzed by using a two-dimensional control volume finite element method. Variation of foam density with respect to time was experimentally measured. Creeping flow, uniform density, uniform conversion, and uniform temperature were assumed for the numerical simulation. It was assumed for the numerical analysis that the cavity has thin planar geometry and the viscosity is constant. The theoretical predictions were compared with the experimental results and showed good agreement.

In Oriental medicine, the status of a tongue is the important indicator to diagnose one's health like physiological and clinicopathological changes of inner parts of the body. The method of tongue diagnosis is not only convenient but also non-invasive and widely used in Oriental medicine. However, tongue diagnosis is affected by examination circumstances a lot like a light source, patient's posture and doctor's condition. To develop an automatic tongue diagnosis system for an objective and standardized diagnosis, segmenting a tongue is inevitable but difficult since the colors of a tongue, lips and skin in a mouth are similar. The proposed method includes preprocessing, graph-based over-segmentation, detecting positions with a local minimum over shading, detecting edge with color difference and estimating edge geometry from the probable structure of a tongue, where preprocessing performs down-sampling to reduce computation time, histogram equalization and edge enhancement. A tongue was segmented from a face image with a tongue from a digital tongue diagnosis system by the proposed method. According to three oriental medical doctors' evaluation, it produced the segmented region to include effective information and exclude a non-tongue region. It can be used to make an objective and standardized diagnosis.
Many reports have been shown that the buoyancy, electromagnetic force, surface tension, and gas shear stress are the driving forces of weld pool circulation in arc welding. Among them, the surface tension of molten metal plays an important role in the flow in weld pool, which are clarified by the specially designed experiments with small particles as well as the numerical simulations. The surface tension is also related to the penetration in arc welding. Therefore, a quantitative evaluation of surface tension is demanded for the development of materials and arc process control. However, there are few available data published on the surface tension of molten metals, since it depends on the temperature and the composition of materials. In this study, a new method was proposed for the evaluation of surface tension and its temperature dependence, in which it is evaluated by the equilibrium condition of acting forces under a given surface geometry, especially back surface. When this method was applied to the water pool and to the back surface of molten pool in the stationary gas tungsten arc welding of thin plate, following results were obtained. In the evaluation of surface tension of water, it was shown that the back surface geometry was very sensitive to the evaluation of surface tension and the evaluated value coincided with the surface tension of water. In the measurement of molten pool in the stationary gas tungsten arc welding, it was also shown that the comparison between the surface tension and temperature distribution across the back surface gave the temperature dependent surface tension. Applying this method to the mild steel and stainless steel plates, the surface tension with negative gradient for temperature is obtained. The evaluated values are well matched with ones in the published papers.

Vehicle dynamic states used in various advanced driving safety systems are influenced by road geometry. Among the road geometry information, the vehicle pitch angle influenced by road slope and acceleration-deceleration is essential parameter used in pose estimation including the navigation system, advanced adaptive cruise control and others on sag road. Although the road slope data is essential parameter, the method measuring the parameter is not commercialized. The digital map including the road geometry data and high-precision DGPS system such as DGPS(Differential Global Positioning System) based RTK(Real-Time Kinematics) are used unusually. In this paper, low-cost cascade extended Kalman filter(CEKF) based road slope estimation method is proposed. It use cascade two EKFs. The EKFs use several measured vehicle states such as yaw rate, longitudinal acceleration, lateral acceleration and wheel speed of the rear tires and 3 D.O.F(Degree Of Freedom) vehicle dynamics model. The performance of proposed estimation algorithm is evaluated by simulation based on Carsim dynamics tool and T-car based experiment.
PURPOSE. This in vitro study aimed to evaluate the effect of implant connection design (external vs. internal) on the fit discrepancy and torque loss of zirconia and titanium abutments. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Two regular platform dental implants, one with external connection ($Br{\aa}nemark$, Nobel Biocare AB) and the other with internal connection (Noble Replace, Nobel Biocare AB), were selected. Seven titanium and seven customized zirconia abutments were used for each connection design. Measurements of geometry, marginal discrepancy, and rotational freedom were done using video measuring machine. To measure the torque loss, each abutment was torqued to 35 Ncm and then opened by means of a digital torque wrench. Data were analyzed with two-way ANOVA and t-test at ${\alpha}=0.05$ of significance. RESULTS. There were significant differences in the geometrical measurements and rotational freedom between abutments of two connection groups (P<.001). Also, the results showed significant differences between titanium abutments of internal and external connection implants in terms of rotational freedom (P<.001). Not only customized internal abutments but also customized external abutments did not have the exact geometry of prefabricated abutments (P<.001). However, neither connection type (P=.15) nor abutment material (P=.38) affected torque loss. CONCLUSION. Abutments with internal connection showed less rotational freedom. However, better marginal fit was observed in externally connected abutments. Also, customized abutments with either connection could not duplicate the exact geometry of their corresponding prefabricated abutment. However, neither abutment connection nor material affected torque loss values.

Over the years, many researches have been performed to create 3D digital maps. Nevertheless, it is still time-consuming and involves a high cost because a large part of 3D digital mapping is conducted manually. To compensate this limitation, we propose methodologies to represent 3D objects as 3D symbols and locate these symbols into a base map automatically. First of all, we constructed the 3D symbol library to represent 3D objects as 3D symbols. In the 3D symbol library, the attribute and geometry information are stored, which defines factors related to the types of symbols and related to the shapes respectively. These factors were used to match 3D objects and 3D symbols. For automatic mapping of 3D symbols into a base map, we used predefined parameters such as the size, the height, the rotation angle and the center of gravity of 3D objects which are extracted from Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) data and 2D digital maps. Finally, the 3D map in urban area was constructed and the mapping results were tested using aerial photos as reference data. Through this research, we can identify that the developed the algorithms can be used as effective techniques for 3D digital cartographic techniques
The methodology on digital cadastre(World Geodetic System Conversion) needs to be specified because the primary target site is discussed for large national estate such as road, river etc. on nationwide. Comprehensively reviews on similar cases and literature reviews to make a methodology for digital cadastre on large national estate, cadastral map revision is required before converting to World Geodetic System. The revisions are on subdivision survey or the other surveys to the necessary area through inspection of geometry and attributes. And the researcher pointed out the need of registration conversion and union of parcel to remove small parcel or to remove the inconsistency of land use type. Basically a systematic maintenance of cadastral map is necessary because the World Geodetic System Conversion unresolved the poor cadastral map quality to digital cadastre on large national estate.
Digital subtraction radiography may be one of the most precise and noninvasive methods for assessing subtle density changes in peri-implant bone, providing additional diagnostic information on implant tissue integration in overall maintenance. The aims of this study were to evaluate density changes after first, second surgery of dental implant and to measure the amount of marginal bone loss 9 months after second surgery using digital subtraction radiography. Bone change around 30 screw-shaped implants in 16 patients were assessed on radiographs. 17 Branemark implants of 3.75mm in diameter(Nobel Biocare, Goteborg, Sweden), 2 Branemark implants of 5.0mm in diameter, 11 $Replace^{TM}$ implants of 4.3mm in diameter(Nobel Biocare, Goteborg, Sweden) were used. To standardize the projection geometry of serial radiographs of implants, customized bite block was fabricated using XCP film holder(Rinn Corporation, Elgin, IL.) with polyether impression material of Impregum(ESPE, Germany) and direct digital image was obtained. Qualitative and quantitative changes on radiographs were measured with Emago software(The Oral Diagnostic System, Amsterdam, Netherlands). The results were as follows: 1. The peri-implant bone density of 69.2% implants did not change and the peri-implant bone density of 30.8% implants decreased after 3 months following first surgery. 2. The crestal bone density of 53.9% implants decreased first 3 months after second surgery. The crestal bone density of 58.8% implants increased 9 months after second surgery. No density change was observed around the midportion of the implants after second surgery, 3. The amount of marginal bone loss between different kinds of implants showed no statistically significant differences (p>0.05). 4. More than 90% of total marginal bone loss recorded in a 9-month period occurred during the first 3 months.
There have been many applications to observe Earth using synthetic aperture radar (SAR) since it could acquire Earth observation data without reference to weathers or local times. However researches about digital map generation using SAR have hardly been performed due to complex raw data processing. In this study, we suggested feasibility of producing digital map using SAR stereo images. We collected two sets, which include an ascending and a descending orbit acquisitions respectively, of KOMPSAT-5 stereo dataset. In order to suggest the feasibility of digital map generation from SAR stereo images, we performed 1) rational polynomial coefficient transformation from radar geometry, 2) digital resititution using KOMPSAT-5 stereo images, and 3) validation using digital-map-derived reference points and check points. As the results of two models, root mean squared errors of XY and Z direction were less than 1m for each model. We discussed that KOMPSAT-5 stereo image could generated 1:25,000 digital map which meets a standard of the digital map. The proposed results would contribute to generate and update digital maps for inaccessible areas and wherever weather conditions are unstable such as North Korea or Polar region.
