VOD Service, which has established a solid foothold as a profit model of digital broadcasting companies, is emerging as a key application of the N-screen technologies and services. In the circumstance, broadcasting companies are trying to promoting their VOD services by providing mobile services for improving the VOD service usability. The paper introduces a VOD mobile app (of a domestic digital cable broadcasting), which includes the functions of promoting the VOD programs and events printed on a VOD guide book, directly transmitting the information (e.g., book-marking and remote-control signals) to a set-top box, and watching the video contents stored in the mobile device on TV.
The digitalization of a broadcast has caused the oversupply of the contents in order to fit the user's needs for various broadcast services. The massive contents could not help demanding one-sided watching without considering a taste and preference of a user. This situation is enlarging the demand about the personalized broadcast service to enable user to watch broadcast contents in anytime according to surplus provision of broadcast contents. TV-Anytime standard could be a solution for broadcast service to enable users to watch personalized broadcast contents according to their preference. The paper proposes the personalized broadcasting system for authoring, receiving and transmission of TV-Anytime metadata, the detailed information about the broadcast contents so that user could efficiently search a large of broadcast contents stored in the PDR(Personal Digital Recorder)receiver under the DCATV(Digital Cable Television) environment.
Stay cables in some cable-stayed bridges suffer large amplitude vibrations under the simultaneous occurrence of rain and wind. This phenomenon is called rain-wind-induced vibration (RWIV). The upper rivulet oscillating circumferentially on the inclined cable surface plays an important role in this phenomenon. However, its small size and high sensitivity to wind flow make measuring rivulet size and its movement challenging. Moreover, the distribution of the rivulet along the entire cable has not been measured. This paper applies the videogrammetric technique to measure the movement and geometry dimension of the upper rivulet along the entire cable during RWIV. A cable model is tested in an open-jet wind tunnel with artificial rain. RWIV is successfully reproduced. Only one digital video camera is employed and installed on the cable during the experiment. The camera records video clips of the upper rivulet and cable movements. The video clips are then transferred into a series of images, from which the positions of the cable and the upper rivulet at each time instant are identified by image processing. The thickness of the upper rivulet is also estimated. The oscillation amplitude, equilibrium position, and dominant frequency of the rivulet are presented. The relationship between cable and rivulet variations is also investigated. Results demonstrate that this non-contact, non-intrusive measurement method has good resolution and is cost effective.
Distance relay is tripped by the line impedance calculated at the relay point. Accordingly the accurate operation depends on the precise calculation of line impedance. Impedance can be accurately calculated in case of overhead line. However, in case of power cables or combined transmission lines, impedance can not be accurately calculated because cable systems have the sheath, grounding wires, and cable cover protection units (CCPUs). There are also several grounding systems in cable systems. Therefore, if there is a fault in cable system, these terms will severely be caused much error to calculation of impedance. Accordingly the proper compensation should be developed for the correct operation of the distance relay. This paper presents the distance calculating algorithm in combined transmission line with power cable using wavelet transform. In order to achieve such purpose, judgement method to discriminate the fault section in both sections was proposed using db1 coefficient summation. And also, error compensation factor was proposed for correct calculation of impedance in power cable.
This paper presents a time-domain approach for analyzing nonlinear random vibrations of long-span suspended cables under transversal wind. A consistent continuous model of the cable, fully accounting for geometrical nonlinearities inherent in cable behavior, is adopted. The effects of spatial correlation are properly included by modeling wind velocity fluctuation as a random function of time and of a single spatial variable ranging over cable span, namely as a one-variate bi-dimensional (1V-2D) random field. Within the context of a Galerkin's discretization of the equations governing cable motion, a very efficient Monte Carlo-based technique for second-order analysis of the response is proposed. This procedure starts by generating sample functions of the generalized aerodynamic loads by using the spectral decomposition of the cross-power spectral density function of wind turbulence field. Relying on the physical meaning of both the spectral properties of wind velocity fluctuation and the mode shapes of the vibrating cable, the computational efficiency is greatly enhanced by applying a truncation procedure according to which just the first few significant loading and structural modal contributions are retained.

Several kinds of High Temperature Superconducting(HTS) power cables have already been developed and evaluated for use in the utility power network. HTS power cable is expected to be used as a very powerful energy delivery system supplying electric power for densely populated cities in the near future, because HTS power cable is capable of the high current density delivery with low AC loss and the size effect comparing with the conventional cable whose capacity is same. Before applying the HTS power cable to real utility network system analysis should be carried out by some simulation tools. Hereby the electrical power system analysis is very important for the practical use of HTS power devices. In this paper, authors propose a real-time simulation method which incorporates a real HTS tapes into the simulated 22.9kV utility power network system using Real Time Digital Simulator(RTDS). For the simulation analysis, a test sample of HTS tapes was actually manufactured, and the transient phenomenon of HTS power cable system was analyzed in the simulated utility power network.

Impedance can be accurately calculated in case of overhead line. However, in case of power cables or combined transmission lines, impedance can not be accurately calculated because cable systems have the sheath, grounding resistance, and sheath voltage limiters(SVLs). This paper describes a new serial interface system which uses conventional 75 ohm coaxial cable. Typically parallel 25 pin cable and connectors are used to transfer and receive the data between digital systems such as HDVCR, D3 VTR and HDTV Receiver. The coaxial cable is more desirable for consumer product applications and also for studio applications where long signal paths and switching are required. This serial data transfer technique is thoroughly tested and utilied in the data transmission/reception between systems more than 200 feet apart. It is also cost effective because it does not require RF PLL, SCRAMBLING, and NRZI hardware.

In this paper, we implemented a terrestrial/cable PSIP converting system, so-called a PSIP converter, which is converting a terrestrial PSIP into a cable PSIP for a data broadcasting service in the interoperable network of terrestrial and cable, and define an interface between the PSIP converter and the OOB SI generator by using PMCP messages compliant to ATSC T3/Sl. The exiting PSIP converter just converts a terrestrial PSIP into a cable PSIP compliant to ATSC and OCAP standard and transmits by a MPEG-2 TS format. That is to say, it is not for the digital data broadcasting but for the digital broadcasting. In addition, the PSIP converter can support various types of PSIP information to the OOB SI generator by using PMCP messages defined by a hierarchical structure as per each channel, audio/video event, data event and so on.
This study investigated a current situation of cable TV in order to seek and suggest cable TV's competitive superiority in the era of multiplatform media marketplace. This study suggested cable TV's direction from two aspects, short-term and mid and long-term strategies. As a result, it recommended that cable TV industry need to establish content circulation representatives, and reinforce multiformat contents suitable for various multiplatform uses, digital cable promotion, production of SO's originated programs, HD VOD, bundling services and diverse programs. As a long-term strategy, this study also suggested cable TV industry need to cooperate with smart TV industry in order to widen openness of its platform, and to provide not only diverse contents but also applications by offering two-way, mobile, and on-demand contents and services. Finally, this study proposed cable TV is needed to move towards a comprehensive media portal, which is a contents aggregator with the aforementioned business strategies.
