  • This paper reports the observation of the interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) phase anomaly on a newly reclaimed mudflat, Hwaong, in west coast of Korea, detected by a series of Radarsat-l SAR data obtained mostly during 2003. The observed phase anomaly could be from subsidence of mud land caused by volumetric contraction of mud in dry season. This process must have been initiated from March 2002 when tidal water supply to this region was permanently blocked by the newly constructed embankment. The maximum subsidence rate measured from InSAR signal is about 3 cm per month. The local heterogeneity of the subsidence rate over the reclaimed mudflat may indicate various mud composition, surface-subsurface hydrological processes, or subsurface information of the mud and basement rock structure. In-situ measurement must follow to support this observation from space.

  • Differential interferometric phases from JERS-1 Lband data sets show spatial variation of path-length ranging from a few mm to several cm. The variation may be caused by changes in soil moisture contents, i.e. variation of penetration depth and the swelling of soils. Although the amount of total effect caused by soil moisture is not measurable, it is clear that the soil moisture according to precipitation is another factor to be considered in DInSAR analysis. We also discuss DInSAR characteristics in a rice paddy according to irrigation conditions, and discrimination of hydrological features such as stream channels and watershed boundaries by applying DInSAR technique.

  • Single mode optical fiber interferometeric sensors using phase tracking homodyne detection are typically susceptible to environmentally induced temperature fluctuations and other types of disturbances. In this paper compensator is described, which is a simple and effective phase tracking feedback electronic circuit must be output signal stabilized to achieve maximln sensitivity and linearity of Mach-Zehnder fiber-optic interferomter in the presence of differential phase drift. The phase tracking range of the piezoelectric cylinder in the reference arm is .+-.3.7.pi.rad, and the probe mass about 1 gram in the sensing ann was used for measurements of the gravity acceleration.

  • This is a widespread requirement for low cost lightweight thermal imaging sensors for both military and civilian applications. Today, a large number of uncooled infrared detector developments are under progress due to the availability of silicon technology that enables realization of low cost IR sensor. System prices are continuing to drop, and swelling production volume will soon drive process substantially lower. The feasibility of micromechanical optical and infrared (IR) detection using microcantilevers is demonstrated. Microcantilevers provide a simple Structurefor developing single- and multi-element sensors for visible and infrared radiation that are smaller, more sensitive and lower in cost than quantum or thermal detectors. Microcantilevers coated with a heat absorbing layer undergo bending due to the differential stress originating from the bimetallic effect. This paper reports a micromachined silicon uncooled thermal imager intended for applications in automated process control. This paper presents the design, fabrication, and the behavior of cantilever for thermomechanical sensing.

  • In this paper, we would like to introduce two dimensional non-contact position sensor by using an electromagnetic induction based coil system and an algorithm to estimate the position of pointer. The sensor which will introduce in this paper is composed of a pointer including LC resonant circuit and a sensor board to detect the electromagnetic signal from the pointer. Because of the simplicity shape of the line antenna, low cost and free form curved shape of the sensor device is possible. In this research, we proposed a new two dimensional non-contact type electromagnetic sensor system and realized the proposed sensor device. From the experiments, the proposed device can be employed for the two dimensional position sensor.

  • We propose a Readout Integrated Circuit (ROIC), which applies a fixed current bias sensing method to the input stage in order to simplify the circuit structure and the infrared sensor characteristic control. For the sample-and-hold stage to display and control a signal detected by the infrared sensor using a two-dimensional (2D) focal plane array, a differential delta sampling (DDS) circuit is proposed, which effectively removes the FPN. In addition, the output characteristic is improved to have wider bandwidth and higher gain by applying a two-stage variable gain amplifier (VGA). The output characteristic of the proposed device was 23.91 mV/$^{\circ}C$, and the linearity error rate was less than 0.22%. After checking the performance of the ROIC using HSPICE simulation, the chip was manufactured and measured using the SMIC 0.35 um standard CMOS process to confirm that the simulation results from the actual design are in good agreement with the measurement results.

  • DGPS(Differential Global Positioning System) and RTK(RealTime Kinematic) is in one of today's most widely used surveying techniques. But It's use is restricted by the distance between reference station and rover station and it is difficult to process data in realtime by it's own orgnizational limitation in precise measurement of positioning. To meet these new demands, In This paper, new DGPS and RTK correction data services through Internet and PSTN(Public Switched Telephony Network) have been proposed. For this purpose, we implemented performance a DGPS and RTK error correction data transmission system for long-distance using the internet and PSTN network which allows a mobile user to increase the distance at which the rover receiver is located from the reference in realtime. and we analyzed and compared DGPS and RTK performance by experiments through the Internet and PSTN network with the distance and the time.

  • This study focuses on examing the feasibility of differential SAR interferometry (DInSAR) in the Northeastern Kyungsang Basin, Korea. Major faults in the Kyungsang Basin such as Yangsan fault, Dongrae fault, and Ulsan fault had developed during Cretaceous, and the activeness of these faults is still controversial in Korean geology community. We attempt to measure displacements in the study area by applying DInSAR techniques to JERS-1 SAR data sets. Some surface displacements are recognized by DInSAR method at Young-il Bay in which the POSCO Company locates, although the displacements may not be directly associated with geologic structures. We also discuss atmospheric effects for the techniques used.

  • This contribution reports on the potential of L-band Permanent Scatterer technique for the detection and monitoring of ground subsidence. We present the use of PS in the abandoned mining area, Korea. Discrete and temporarily stable natural reflectors or permanent scatterers (PS) can be identified from long temporal series of interferometric SAR images. This subset of image pixels can be exploited successfully for high accuracy differential measurements (Ferretti et al., 2000).
