Enhancing Irregular Repetition Slotted ALOHA with Polarization Diversity in LEO Satellite Networks

  • An enhanced irregular repetition slotted ALOHA (IRSA) protocol is proposed by using polarization characteristic of satellite link and MIMO detection in low earth orbit (LEO) satellite networks, which is dubbed polarized MIMO IRSA (PM-IRSA). In the proposed scheme, one or two packets in one slot can be decoded by employing polarized MIMO detection, and more than two collided packets in multiple slots which can construct the virtual MIMO model can be decoded by the MIMO detection algorithm. The performance of the proposed scheme is analyzed with the density evolution (DE) approach and the degree distribution is optimized to maximize the system throughput by using a differential evolution. Numerical results certify our analysis and show that the normalized throughput of the proposed PM-IRSA can achieve 1.89 bits/symbol.

  • 19세기말에 차동보호계전방식이 이미 적용되었고 시스템 보호에 가장 먼저 사용되는 방식 중에 하나였다. 이 방식은 고장전력설비의 기기를 보호하기위해 전류의 입출력값을 비교함으로 고장을 검출하는 방법을 사용한다. 결과적으로 비율차동보호방식은 완벽하게 고장구간을 검출할 수 있으므로 전력설비의 중요기기의 주보호로 적합한 시스템이라고 볼 수 있다. 본 논문 변압기의 내/외부사고유형에 따른 전자기계식과 디지털 보호계전기의 동작특성을 컴퓨터기반의 해석 S/W를 이용하여 모델링과 동작특성에 대한 분석을 통해 보호계전기 동작특성의 신뢰성검증과 전력계통을 시뮬레이션하기 위해 구성하였다. 특히, 비율차동특성 보호 알고리즘을 계전기별로 모듈화하기 위한 기본 구조설계에 초점을 맞추었고 외부사고에 대해 각 보호계전기 동작특성을 비교함으로써 보호계전기 응답특성에 검증하는 기초 데이터를 생성하는 과정도 기술하였다.

Adaptive and Prioritized Random Access and Resource Allocation Schemes for Dynamic TDMA/TDD Protocols

  • The medium access control (MAC) protocol based on dynamic time division multiple access/time division duplex (TDMA/TDD) is responsible for random access control and radio resource allocation in dynamic traffic environments. These functions of random access and resource allocation are very important to prevent wastage of resources and improve MAC performance according to various network conditions. In this paper, we propose new random access and resource allocation schemes to guarantee quality of service (QoS) and provide priority services in a dynamic TDMA/TDD system. First, for the QoS guarantee, we propose an adaptive random access and resource allocation scheme by introducing an access probability. Second, for providing priority service, we propose a priority-based random access and resource allocation scheme by extending the first adaptive scheme in both a centralized and a distributed manner. The analysis and simulation results show that the proposed MAC protocol outperforms the legacy MAC protocol using a simple binary exponential backoff algorithm, and provides good differential performance according to priorities with respect to the throughput and delay.

  • Recently, emergence of smart-phones and Social Networking Service(SNS) would offer the market environment changes and the opportunities for new business. For the case analysis comprehensive survey were implemented. And those data were analyzed along the research framework. The late-comer firms offered differential services, maintained creative and opened corporate culture, shoed learning capabilities which means absorption and organization of external knowledge, innovative efforts to control the insurgents than early-mover firms. When we analyze these phenomena along the developmental stages of late-comer, we can perceive that the stage of late-comers firms were moving from the "tracing the path" stage to "jumping the path" stage which means the creating capabilities were more or less enhanced and the firms become more stable in terms of business operation. In business model, early-mover firms showed clear definition for each business element, especially the revenue structure, while late-mover firms seemed unstable or unclear revenue structure.

  • Korea Postal Service(KPS) nowadays lies in competitive environment with alternative business such as door-to-door delivery service. Customers began to complain about postal service quality and ask the government to reform a public firm through management innovation. But, Korea Postal Service has not met the break-even point between it's revenue and expenditure because the service is under the government system and cannot independently make major decisions on products, pricing, services, personnel management, financial policies and etc. The objective of this study is to provide marketing planners and practitioners with some guidelines when they establish marketing strategies and to help marketers on theories and practical instructions about postal service marketing when they interact with customers. I. A field survey on both customer satisfaction and internal staff satisfaction was conducted to get some ideas for the marketing strategy planning. II. Practical guidelines and instructions were made for marketers to communicate with customers in various areas such as pricing, product, service demand, marketing channel, promotion, and etc. III. Some suggestions on marketing policies for planners and mangers in the marketing strategy were described including personnel resource as well as physical resource. IV. Special issues on small packet market and direct mail market were discussed and some alternative solutions were proposed. V. Database marketing strategy was emphasized to get new business opportunities such as direct mail, and to provide differential services to customers as much as their contribution into the profitability for KPS. VI. Cyber Post Office should be constructed on Internet to provide new services which are combined with physical material flow and information technologies.

Evolution of Korean Maritime DGPS System to High Accuracy Nationwide DGPS Service

  • According to the recommendation of International Maritime Organization, the Ministry Of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (MOMAF) of Korea provides the real time Differential Global Positioning System service using maritime radio beacon from 1999. Due to the benefit of DGPS service, the need of this system is increased from various user groups for acquiring the better accuracy and integrity. Therefore, MOMAF has extended their service to inland by installing the additional 6 DGPS stations. This nationwide DGPS service will be fully deployed at 2007. In addition to the extension of service area, MOMAF has a plan to upgrade their nationwide DGPS to High Accuracy Nationwide DGPS (HANDGPS). The planned HANDGPS service of Korea will be a kind of long range RTK or Wide Area RTK techniques to provide under 1m accuracy and start their service from 2009 using the various broadcasting and communication media like as radio beacon, Wibro, Digital Multimedia Broadcasting, High Speed Packet Data Access. The introduction of nationwide DGPS system of Korea and its evolution plan will be addressed in this paper. The research activities related with HANDGPS in Korea is also presented.

  • With the explosive growth and pervasive of the Internet, dynamic bandwidth allocation is nessary for ATM streams that carry various traffic. In order to provide quality of service(QoS) guarantees and to give the minimum cell rate, new bandwidth allocation scheme requires to be implemented. DFBA(Differential Fair Buffer Allocation) scheme is one of the methods for ATM GFR(Guaranteed Frame Rate) services. DFBA scheme treats cells selectively in a region between low buffer occupancy threshold and high buffer occupancy threshold. A big unbalance is introduced when the value being selected by DFBA scheme is greater than minimum rate. In a try to reduce the unbalance modified DFBA scheme is proposed. Selecting parameter according to the situation of network, this scheme is very effective to control the bandwidth in the various network situation.

Customer-Contact Employee Support and Service Recovery Efforts: The Mediating Role of Job Burnout and Customer Orientation

  • The purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of customer-contact employees support on service recovery efforts. Service companies should try to prevent the service failure situation from occurring, but it is realistic that the service failure occurs due to the characteristics of the service. Service recovery efforts of service providers are important because effective responses to service failures can enhance customer satisfaction despite service failures. Social support for customer-contact employees needs to improve service recovery efforts. Specifically, this study focuses on the mediation roles of job burnout and customer orientation in relationship between social support for customer-contact employees and service recovery efforts. Social exchange theory was used as the theoretical underpinning of the research model. Based on reciprocity principle, this paper suppose that support for customer-contact employees and service recovery effort are a kind of social exchange relationship. Social supports for customer-contact employees are categorized into internal and external organization. Internal organization is POS(perceived organizational support) and external organization is customer support. The research model was tested with the data gathered from the flight attendants whose emotional labor intensity was relatively high and the service failure frequently occurred. As a result of analysis, social supports for customer-contact employees classified into organizational support, supervisor support, and customer support are found to have differential impacts on job burnout and customer orientation. It has been found that job burnout of service providers is negatively affecting service recovery efforts. On the other hand, customer orientation of service providers has a positive influence on service recovery efforts. Based on the results of the analysis, we provide practical implications for effective service recovery efforts in service failure situations, and suggest the theoretical implications to explain the process of service recovery effort. Finally, limitations of the study and directions for future research are suggested.

Evaluating the Quality of the Differential Police Response Strategy: Applications of Statistical Quality Control Charts (통계적 품질관리도를 활용한 차별적 경찰대응전략의 평가)

  • The purpose of this research is to evaluate the quality of Differential Police Response strategy. Although it has been approximately three years since these new police response systems were introduced, there is no research to evaluate them empirically. Using two types of statistical quality control techniques, Xbar-R control charts for variables data and P charts for attributes data, this study analyzes approximately 3,000 calls reported throughout the year 2012 to the 112 Integrated Dispatch Center in Ik-san police station. The Xbar-R control charts revealed that the police did not consistently respond to an emergency call for service (i.e., code one case) within 3 minutes. The P control chart also identified that there was a significant variation in the portion/number of defective calls where police failed to respond to non-emergency calls for service within 5 minutes. The results from this study suggest the police may need to review the target response time for code 1 and code 2 respectively.

Hematological and biochemical analysis of Korean indigenous cattle according to the ages (한우의 연령에 따른 혈액 및 혈청 화학치 분석)

  • Investigations for hematologic and biochemical values and the differential count of WBC for Korean indigenous cattle (KIC)is rarely performed. Therefore, when the index of complete blood counts (CBC) and biochemical analysis of KIC was requested, it had many difficulties to make the results for blood condition since the standard hematologic and biochemical values of KIC are lacking. In the present study, we have investigated the hematologic and biochemical values and the differential count of WBC for blood of total 252 KIC and 17 striped cattle (SC) as a control. As a result, the mean values of RBC and platelet of KIC were significantly decreased by age (P<0.05). The mean values of RBC, HCT, MCV and MCHC between KIC and SC of the same age (2 - 3 years) showed the statistical significance (P<0.05). Also, in the WBC of KIC, the mean values were decreased according to the age from $12.8{\times}10^3/{\mu}l$ under 1 year to $8.5{\times}10^3/{\mu}l$ over 5 years. In the differential count of WBC of KIC, it showed generally the rates of 45% lymphocyte and 35% segmented neutrophil. In the biochemical analysis, the mean values of BUN and globulin were significantly increased according to the age (P<0.05). Additionally, in comparative analysis between pregnant and non-pregnant group of KIC, the mean values of Hg and HCT in pregnant group were significantly decreased (P<0.05). In conclusion, data obtained from this study may be valuable as a standard for interpretation of the results in hematologic and biochemical analysis of KIC.
