Recent advances in Telecommunication and Internet have how made it possible to break the space-time barriers and allow physicians to deliver health care to patients at any time and any place, having led to a new branch of computer applications called Telemedicine System. In Telemedcine, Network and I/O performance requirements are generally more important than computing capability. Accordingly, this thesis is aimed at inquiring into how to satisfy QoS guarantee of network to compensate for the defects of the existing best-effort services and suggesting how to solve network bottleneck problem. using DiffServ in Telemedicine service system through Internet.
Because of increasing the notebook computer and PDA, users' requirement with respect to mobility is growing more and more. However, current IP protocol is not changed IP address and can not deliver IP packets on new location of host in case moving another network. To solve this problem, the IETF has proposed mobile IP. Today users want to be provided suitable QoS in the internet since demand of services is variety. The policy-based network management is method which can solve various problems of QoS, security, and complication of management in IP networks. This paper presents the network topology constitution, operation procedure and architecture of policy-based network management for providing internet DiffServ on mobile IP environment. In this paper we propose policy classes of policy-based DiffServ network management on mobile environment and create policy scenarios using the proposed policy description language to represent the policy classes. Finally, we implemented a policy-based DiffServ network management system on mobile IP environment.
Next generation wireless network is evolving toward IP-based network that can various provide multimedia services. A challenge in wireless mobile Internet is support of quality of service over wireless access networks. DiffServ architecture is proposed for evolving wireless mobile Internet. In this paper we propose an algorithm for optimal buffer partitioning which requires the minimal channel capacity to satisfy the QoS requirements of input traffic. We used a partitioned buffer with size B to serve a layered traffic at each DiffServ router. We consider a traffic model with a single source generates traffic having J $(J\geq2)$ quality of service (QoS) classes. QoS in this case is described by loss probability $\varepsilon_j$. for QoS class j. Traffic is admitted or rejected based on the buffer occupancy and its service class. Traffic is generated by heterogeneous Markov-modulated fluid source (MMFS).

Recently, as the rapid development of network technology and the increase of services required high bandwidth such as multimedia service, the network traffic dramatically increases. This massive increase of network traffic causes some problems such as the degradation of QoS and the lack of network resources and, to solve these problems, various research to guarantee QoS have been performing. Currently, The most representative method to guarantee the QoS is the DiffServ(: Differentiated Service). The DiffServ defines the AF(: Assured Forwarding) PHB(: Per Hop Behavior) and statistically ensures the throughput over the certain level of data rate. However, the TCP congestion control method that make up the majority of the Internet traffic is not fundamentally suitable to the DiffServ that guarantees the throughput without managing the individual flow. Therefore, in this paper, we present this mismatch through the simulation as an example and propose the solution by controlling the TCP of the terminal in the network. The proposed scheme utilizes the information of the reception window size included in the ACK frame and does not require any modification of the TCP algorithms currently in use.

The differentiated services(DiffServ) architecture provides packet level service differentiation through the simple and predefined Per-Hop Behaviors(PHBs). The Assured Forwarding(AF) PHB proposed as the assured services uses the RED-in/out(RIO) approach to ensusre the expected capacity specified by the service profile. However, the AF PHB fails to give good QoS and fairness to the TCP flows. This is because OUT(out- of-profile) packet droppings at the RIO buffer are unfair and sporadic during only network congestion while the TCP's congestion control algorithm works with a different round trip time(RTT). In this paper, we propose an Adaptive Regulating Drop(ARD) marker, as a novel dropping strategy at the ingressive edge router, to improve TCP fairness in assured services without a decrease in the link utilization. To drop packets pertinently, the ARD marker adaptively changes a Temporary Permitted Rate(TPR) for aggregate TCP flows. To reduce the excessive use of greedy TCP flows by notifying droppings of their IN packets constantly to them without a decrease in the link utilization, according to the TPR, the ARD marker performs random early fair remarking and dropping of their excessive IN packets at the aggregate flow level. Thus, the throughput of a TCP flow no more depends on only the sporadic and unfair OUT packet droppings at the RIO buffer in the core router. Then, the ARD marker regulates the packet transmission rate of each TCP flow to the contract rate by increasing TCP fairness, without a decrease in the link utilization.

In this paper, an packet drop technique is proposed to outperform the previous RIO (RED In and Out) drop mechanism for DiffServ in ship area networks. the proposed packet drop technique does not manage the individual flows and divides them into several flow groups according to a criterion. And it guarantees the fairness between individual flows in the same QoS class through the group-based control. In simulation results of the proposed packet drop technique, the link utilization decreases than RIO. But it guarantees more data rates to DiffServ flows passing multiple bottleneck links.
The average window size is most closely related to average throughput. In order to improve fairness, the proposed dropper tries to control the window size of each flow to equal level by intentional packet drop. Intentional packet drop is performed only to the flows that have been occupied bandwidth in a large amount. Because of intentional packet drop, this flow cut down its transmission rate to a half. Accordingly, somewhat capacity of core link comes into existence. And other flow can use this new capacity of this link. Hence other flows have more throughput than before. In this paper, we propose the TRC (Transmission Rate Control) Dropper improving the fairness between individual flows of aggregated sources on DiffServ network. It has the fairness improvement mechanism mentioned above paragraph.
QoS is an important requirement of the FTTH (Fiber To The Home) subscriber in access network using E-PON (Ethernet Passive Optical Network). In this research, we describe the structure of the access network and propose a bandwidth guarantee scheme for subscriber and service according to the requirements of the subscriber, service and system. This scheme uses two kinds of the classification table, which are called 'service classification table' and 'subscriber classification table.' Using the classification table, we can identify the flow of the subscriber and service. Also, we compute the number of hash table entry to minimize the loss ratio of flows using the M/G/k/k queueing model. Finally, we apply the DRR scheduling through virtual queueing per subscriber instead of the aggregated class.

Differentiated services (DiffServ) architecture defines a new framework for the support of quality of service (QoS) in IP-based networks. RIO has received the most attention among all the active queue management mechanisms proposed for assured service in DiffServ environment. The paper proposed the enhanced RIO which could alleviate the impact of flow's packet sire on the realized throughput. The simulation results indicate that this mechanism, when combined with TSW as traffic conditioner, provide better throughput assurance and fair distribution of excess bandwidth independent of packet size of flows in case of well-provisioned network environment.
Most of the existing broadband access networks based on DSL, cable modem, and Ethernet support the best-effort internet access service, and adopt the flat rate pricing mechanism. It is almost impossible to provide the differentiated communication services, in current broadband access networks, for the different users and/or the different application services. Currently, however, the advances in multimedia, communication, and security technologies push the interactive and/or streaming multimedia services and VPN services to be widely deployed over Internet, and they require more QoS-sensitive services than the best-effort service. Though various QoS technologies such as RSVP-based IntServ and DiffSern were already developed and under standardization in Internet world, it is impractical to replace the existing QoS-unaware access networks with the QoS-enabled ones at a time to deploy QoS-sensitive services. In this paper, after analyzing current broadband access network architectures and the status of QoS support, we propose a practical approach to support multimedia QoS in the broadband access networks. The approach will be based on the integration of the differentiated pricing and the DiffServ technology. And it will be a step-wise approach to support backward compatibility with the legacy broadband access networks as much as possible.
