연소 관점에서 본 연료 품질 판단 방법 (Methodology to evaluate Fuel Quality in terms of Ignition and Combustion)

  • The ignition quality in diesel engines is one of the most important factors influencing their performance. While the ignition quality of distillation fuels is judged with Cetane Number, Cetane Index, and Diesel Index, that of residual fuels blended with distillation fuels is done by using CCAI. Since the 1980s, because of the development in the blending technology and the complexity, it has been difficult to make a judgement on the ignition quality of the fuels with CCAI. Hence, in order to solve the problems, it is ECN that researchers are studying in depth. In this paper, After reviewing the values such as Cetane Number, Cetane Index, Diesel Index, CCAI, and CII, we will introduce ECn and predict the possibility of using it.

The Effect of COVID-19 Pandemic on the Philippine Stock Exchange, Peso-Dollar Rate and Retail Price of Diesel

  • This paper examines the effect of COVID-19 pandemic on the Philippine stock exchange, peso-dollar rate and retail price of diesel using robust least squares regression and vector autoregression (VAR). The robust least squares regression using MM-estimation method concluded that COVID-19 daily infection has negative and statistically significant effect on the Philippine stock exchange index, peso-dollar exchange rate and retail pump price of diesel. This is consistent with the results of correlation diagnostics. As for the VAR model, the lag values of the independent variable disclose significance in explaining the Philippine stock exchange index, peso-dollar exchange rate and retail pump price of diesel. Moreover, in the short run, the impulse response function confirmed relative effect of COVID-19 daily infections and the variance decomposition divulge that COVID-19 daily infections have accounted for only minor portion in explaining fluctuations of the Philippine stock exchange index, peso-dollar exchange and retail pump price of diesel. In the long term, the influence levels off. The Granger causality test suggests that COVID-19 daily infections cause changes in the Philippine stock exchange index and peso-dollar exchange rate in the short run. However, COVID-19 infection has no causal link with retail pump price of diesel.

The Effect of Biodiesel and Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel Fuels on Emissions in 11,000 cc Heavy-Duty Diesel Engine

  • It seems very difficult to comply with upcoming stringent emission standards in vehicles. To develop low emission engines, better quality of automotive fuels must be achieved. Since sulfur contents in diesel fuels are transformed to sulfate-laden particulate matters as a catalyst is applied, it is necessary to provide low sulfur fuels before any Pt-based oxidation catalysts are applied. In general, flash point, distillation $90\%$ and cetane index are improved but viscosity can be worse in the process of desulfurization of diesel fuel. Excessive reduction of sulfur may cause to degrade viscosity of fuels and engine performance in fuel injection systems. This research focused on the performance of an 11,000 cc diesel engine and emission characteristics by the introduction of ULSD, bio-diesel and a diesel oxidation catalyst, where the bio-diesel was used to improve viscosity of fuels in fuel injection systems as fuel additives or alternative fuels.

승용차 디젤 엔진 소음에 대한 음질 평가 기법 연구 (Study on the Sound Quality Evaluation Method for the Vehicle Diesel Engine Noise)

  • The brand sound of vehicle diesel engine is recently one of the important advantage strategies in the automotive company. Because various noise components masked under high frequency level can be audible in quieter driving situation. Many researches have been carried out for subjective and objective assessments on vehicle sounds and noises. In particular, the interior sound quality has been one of research fields that can give high quality feature to vehicle products. Vehicle interior noise above 500 Hz is usually controlled by sound package parts. The materials and geometries of sound package parts directly affect on this high frequency noise. This paper describes the sound quality evaluation method for the vehicle diesel engine noise to establish objective criteria for sound quality assessment. Considering the sensitivity of human hearing to impulsive sounds such as diesel noise, the human auditory mechanism was simulated by introducing temporal masking in the time domain. Furthermore, each of the human auditory organs was simulated by computer codes, providing reasonable analytical explanations of typical human hearing responses to diesel noise. This method finally provides the sound quality index of vehicle diesel engine noise that includes high frequency intermittent offensive sounds caused by impacting excitations of combustion and piston slap.

Vane-type Static Mixer에 의한 디젤차량 배기관 내의 유동 특성에 관한 연구 (Numerical Study on the Flow Characteristics with a Vane-type Static Mixer in the Diesel Exhaust Systems)

  • In this work the mixing and flow characteristics of a vane-type static mixer were investigated numerically for the reduction of NOx in the SCR-system of the diesel engines. The mixer was located in the 57 times pipe diameter away from the inlet. The analysis were performed by changing such various parameters as vane shape, angles, blockage ratio and location of the vane. The flow structure through the mixer was characterized by uniformity index and pressure drop. The results show that uniformity index and pressure coefficient are substantially influenced by the vane shape, angle, blockage ratio and position of the vane of the mixer.

순수 DME의 직접분사식 디젤기관의 성능 및 배기가스 특성 (Engine Performance and Exhaust Emissions Characteristics of DI Diesel Engine Operated with Neat Dimethyl Ether)

  • DME(Dimethyl ether) is an oxygenated fuel with a octane number higher than that of diesel oil. It meets the ULEV emission regulation and reduces the smoke to almost zero when used in a diesel engine. In the present study, engine performance and exhaust emissions were investigated with a conventional DI diesel engine which has a jerk type injection pump. Test results showed that the power with DME were almost same as that of pure diesel oil, and the brake thermal efficiency increased a little. Also, smoke index from DME engine showed nearly zero level, but NO$_{x}$ was increased compare to diesel oil.

  • 압축착화엔진용 경유연료 세탄가는 연료의 착화성을 나타내는 연료의 주요 특성중의 하나이다. 기존 CFR 엔진을 이용한 세탄가 분석의 번거로움을 피하기 위해 세탄가를 세탄지수로 대체하여 사용하고 있으나, 현재 다양한 첨가제에 의한 세탄가와 세탄지수 값의 차이를 보이고 있다. 본 연구에서는 첨가제로서 바이오디젤, 등유유분, 세탄가향상제를 베이스경유에 일정 비율로 혼합한 뒤, 세탄가, 유도세탄가 및 세탄지수를 분석하였다. 연구결과, 첨가제에 의한 세탄가와 유도세탄가는 유사한 결과값을 보였지만 세탄지수는 바이오디젤과 세탄가향상제 첨가시 현저한 분석값 차이를 보였다.

  • This paper describes briefly the effect of ultrasonic vibrations on the performance of four cycle diesel engine. Experiments were carried out to clarify the effect of ultrasonic vibrations on the characteristics of viscosity, structure of diesel oil, fuel consumption rate, brake thermal efficiency, smoke emissions, cylinder pressure of engine. The results are obtained as follows: 1. The ultrasonic vibrations of diesel oil result in the decrease of kinematic viscosity, Brachness Index of diesel oil. 2. The ultrasonic vibrations of diesel oil result in the decrease of fuel consumption rate, the improvement of brake thermal efficiency of engine. 3. The ultrasonic vibrations of diesel oil result in the decrease of smoke emissions of engine.

  • 디젤 매연여과장치내 포집된 입자상물질의 재생 시기를 제어하기 위해서는 매연 포집량을 정확히 예측하는 것이 중요하다. 필터내 축적된 매연 포집량은 필터 전 후의 압력차와 배기유량에 의해 예측될 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 먼저, 디젤산화촉매와 디젤매연여과장치 전 후의 각각 압력차의 비로써 정의한 매연지수의 산출을 위해 효과적인 신호처리방법을 제시하였다. 이를 3L급 승용 디젤엔진에서 정상운전조건과 과도운전조건에서 비교한 결과, 매연지수와 매연 포집량에 있어서 일정 상관관계가 있음을 알 수 있었다.

  • The main objective of this study is to investigate the relationship between chemical structure and higher heating value of reformed diesel fuels by ultrasonic irradiation. In order to analyze the chemical structure changes of the reformed diesel fuels by ultrasonic irradiation, Proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer(1H-NMR) was used and to analyze the effect of higher heating values of these diesel fuels, the bomb calorimeter was used. From the study, following conclusive remarks can be made. 1) The aromatic carbon percentages and higher heating values of the reformed diesel fuels by ultrasonic irradiation increased more than the conventional diesel ones. 2) The aromatics percentages and Branch Index(BI) of the reformed diesel fuels by ultrasonic irradiation decreased more than the conventional diesel ones. 3) The higher heating values on both for conventional fuel and reformed diesel fuels by ultrasonic energy irradiation is directly proportional to aromatic carbon percentages and inversely proportional to aromatic percentages and BI for these fuels.
