A Study on the Development of Multi-pilotting-type Progressive Die for U-bending Part Process

  • The multi-piloting type progressive die for U-bending sheet metal production part is a very specific division. This study reveals the sheet metal forming process with multi-forming die by center carrier type feeding system. Through the FEM simulation by DEFORM, it was accepted to u-bending process as the first performance to design of strip process layout. The next process of die development was studied according to sequence of die development, i.e die structure, machining condition for die making, die materials, heat treatment of partially die components, know-how and so on. The feature of this study is the die development of scrapless progressive die of multi-stage through the modeling on the I-DEAS program, components drawing on the Auto-LISP, CAD/CAM application, ordinary machine tool operating and revision by tryout.

  • This study investigates EAD/EAM system & component technology in die making for automobile, An assessment has been proceeded so that stamping car panel can be designed and manufactured efficiently. Also a method of measuring surface strains in a deformed three dimensional part has been analyzed which computes surface strains for the entire area under the view instead of determining surface strains from deformed circles one a time. For the technicians sutomated strain measurement system has the potential to become a powerful tool for successful press-die design and making. The obtained results will lead to the reductions in lead time and man-hour required for the design and manufacture of the stamping dies.

  • This paper describes a computer-aided die design system of progressive die for making CPT grid. An approach to the development of the automatic design system is based on knowledge-based rules. The developed system is designed by considering several factors, such as grid geometry and punch profile. Grid, a key component of electronic gun, is formed through a sequence of many operations, among which the pilot piercing, beading, notching, bending, swaging and slotting etc. Using the developed system, design parameters are determined and output is generated in graphic forms. Therefore the developed system provides part drawing and the assembly drawing of die set.

  • In rheo forming process, slurry making is very important factor because the microstructure of slurry affects the quality of final products. To control the microstructure of slurry, slurry making by new rheo die casting was studied. In new rheocasting method, processes parameters are degree of overheat in molten metal, cooling condition, high frequency induction heating condition and cup temperature. Microstructures according to these parameters were observed. By image analysis, equivalent diameter and roundness of grain were investigated and discussed. To find out mechanical properties of grain controlled aluminum part by rheo die casting, tensile tests were carried out to the T6 heat treatment.

Out of the characteristics of this paper that nothing might be ever seen before such as this type of research method on the all of processes of thin and high precision production part.

  • In sheet metal forming, material cost and die process number are very important manufacturing process for an economic die-making. In this report on implemention of a computer aided sheet-metal nesting program for nesting of irregular shaped blank on ae coil strip of limit width. The result of the computing in the nesting program reduced material cost and die process number.

  • Composite material made of recycling paper and plastics was developed. The tension and bending testing result of developed composite material shows that the cellulose contained in paper contributes much to get high flexural rigidity. As an application example, the raised access floor for office automation purpose was developed by making use of developed composite material. Manufacturing process together with the extrusion die and the compression die for to manufacture the access floor have been developed.

  • In recent domestic automotive industry, applications of computer simulation to the manufacturing of stamping dies for inner and outer body panels which greatly affect durability and aesthetic quality of automobiles, have been increased. Enhancement of die quality, and reduction of total die manufacturing time and consequently manufacturing cost are the visible outcome. However, to successfully apply the result of simulation by a commercial package to the die manufacturing, development of an optimal die manufacturing process is required upon the completion of analysis of forte and shortcomings of available sheet metal forming softwares in the market. Based on the results of numerical analysis of front door outer panel forming, this paper evaluates the applicability of simulation results to the real die making for automotive body panels. Also, it attempts to select an optimal die manufacturing process including design, machining and tryout. Lastly, it discusses the expected effects by adopting the selected process in a real stamping die manufacturing facility.
