Sentiment lexicon is an essential element for expressing sentiment on a text or recognizing sentiment from a text. We propose a graph-based semi-supervised learning method to construct a sentiment dictionary as sentiment lexicon set. In particular, we focus on the construction of domain-specific sentiment dictionary. The proposed method makes up a graph according to lexicons and proximity among lexicons, and sentiments of some lexicons which already know their sentiment values are propagated throughout all of the lexicons on the graph. There are two typical types of the sentiment lexicon, sentiment words and sentiment phrase, and we construct a sentiment dictionary by creating each graph of them and infer sentiment of all sentiment lexicons. In order to verify our proposed method, we constructed a sentiment dictionary specific to the movie domain, and conducted sentiment classification experiments with it. As a result, it have been shown that the classification performance using the sentiment dictionary is better than the other using typical general-purpose sentiment dictionary.

Most background subtraction methods focus on dynamic and complex scenes without considering robustness against noise. This paper proposes a background subtraction algorithm based on dictionary learning and sparse coding for handling low light conditions. The proposed method formulates background modeling as the linear and sparse combination of atoms in the dictionary. The background subtraction is considered as the difference between sparse representations of the current frame and the background model. Assuming that the projection of the noise over the dictionary is irregular and random guarantees the adaptability of the approach in large noisy scenes. Experimental results divided in simulated large noise and realistic low light conditions show the promising robustness of the proposed approach compared with other competing methods.
This study introduces a new approach in Korean morphological analysis combining dictionary-based techniques with Transformer-based deep learning models. The key innovation is the use of a BERT-based reranking system, significantly enhancing the accuracy of traditional morphological analysis. The method generates multiple suboptimal paths, then employs BERT models for reranking, leveraging their advanced language comprehension. Results show remarkable performance improvements, with the first-stage reranking achieving over 20% improvement in error reduction rate compared with existing models. The second stage, using another BERT variant, further increases this improvement to over 30%. This indicates a significant leap in accuracy, validating the effectiveness of merging dictionary-based analysis with contemporary deep learning. The study suggests future exploration in refined integrations of dictionary and deep learning methods as well as using probabilistic models for enhanced morphological analysis. This hybrid approach sets a new benchmark in the field and offers insights for similar challenges in language processing applications.

Regression-based image super resolution (SR) methods have shown great advantage in time consumption while maintaining similar or improved quality performance compared to other learning-based methods. In this paper, we propose a novel single image SR method based on hierarchical regression to further improve the quality performance. As an improvement to other regression-based methods, we introduce a hierarchical scheme into the process of learning multiple regressors. First, training samples are grouped into different clusters according to their geometry similarity, which generates the structure layer. Then in each cluster, a compact dictionary can be learned by Sparse Coding (SC) method and the training samples can be further grouped by dictionary atoms to form the detail layer. Last, a series of projection matrixes, which anchored to dictionary atoms, can be learned by linear regression. Experiment results show that hierarchical scheme can lead to regression that is more precise. Our method achieves superior high quality results compared with several state-of-the-art methods.
The Sejong Electronic(machine-readable) Dictionary, developed by the 21st century Sejong Plan, contains systematically organized information on Korean words. It helps to solve problems encountered in the electronic formatting of the still-commonly-used hard-copy dictionary. The Sejong Electronic Dictionary, however has a limitation relate to sentence structure and selection-restricted nouns. This paper discuses the limitations of word-sense disambiguation(WSD) that uses subcategorization information suggested by the Sejong Electronic Dictionary and generalized selection-restricted nouns from the Korean Lexico-semantic network. An alternative method that utilized semi-supervised learning, the chi-square test and some other means to make WSD decisions is presented herein.
Non-Negative Matrix Factorization (NMF) is a method for updating dictionary and gain in alternating manner. Due to ease of implementation and intuitive interpretation, NMF is widely used to detect and separate overlapping sound events. However, NMF that utilizes non-negativity constraints generates parts-based representation and this distinct property leads to a dictionary containing fragmented acoustic events. As a result, the presence of shared basis results in performance degradation in both separation and detection tasks of overlapping sound events. In this paper, we propose a new method that utilizes K-Singular Value Decomposition (K-SVD) based dictionary to address and mitigate the part-based representation issue during the dictionary learning step. Subsequently, we calculate the gain using NMF in sound event detection step. We evaluate and confirm that overlapping sound event detection performance of the proposed method is better than the conventional method that utilizes NMF based dictionary.

Along with advent of Web 3.0 era and advanced technologies of IoT(Internet of Things), massive amounts of information are generated. Reflecting this trend, this paper developed a semi-automatic construction tool for named entity dictionary based on active learning. Our proposed method chose error candidates to verify among the preliminary results using initial trained model and re-trained the model for correctly labeled data by user. We adopt active learning approach for minimizing human effort utilized metadata features of Wikipedia. Based on experimental results using our tool, we show that 68.6% errors were automatically corrected.
Sentiment analysis is a technique of text mining that extracts feelings of the person who wrote the sentence like movie review. The preliminary researches of sentiment analysis identify sentiments by using the dictionary which contains negative and positive words collected in advance. As researches on deep learning are actively carried out, sentiment analysis using deep learning model with morpheme or word unit has been done. However, this model has disadvantages in that the word dictionary varies according to the domain and the number of morphemes or words gets relatively larger than that of phonemes. Therefore, the size of the dictionary becomes large and the complexity of the model increases accordingly. We construct a sentiment analysis model using recurrent neural network by dividing input data into phoneme-level which is smaller than morpheme-level. To verify the performance, we use 30,000 movie reviews from the Korean biggest portal, Naver. Morpheme-level sentiment analysis model is also implemented and compared. As a result, the phoneme-level sentiment analysis model is superior to that of the morpheme-level, and in particular, the phoneme-level model using LSTM performs better than that of using GRU model. It is expected that Korean text processing based on a phoneme-level model can be applied to various text mining and language models.
In English-Korean machine translation, transitive verb-objective collocation is utilized for accurate translation of an English verbal phrase into Korean. This paper presents an algorithm for correct verb translation based on the k-nearest neighbor learning. The semantic distance is defined on the WordNet for the k-nearest neighbor learning. And we also present algorithms for automatic collocation dictionary optimization. The algorithms extract transitive verb-objective pairs as training examples from large corpora and minimize the examples, considering the tradeoff between translation accuracy and example size. Experiments show that these algorithms optimized collocation dictionary keeping about 90% accuracy for a verb 'build'.
This study is directed toward the design of a hybrid algorithm for syllable-based Korean POS tagging. Previous syllable-based works on Korean POS tagging have relied on a sequence labeling method and mostly used only a machine learning method. We present a new algorithm integrating a machine learning method and a pre-analyzed dictionary. We used a Sejong tagged corpus for training and evaluation. While the machine learning engine achieved eojeol precision of 0.964, the proposed hybrid engine achieved eojeol precision of 0.990. In a Quiz domain test, the machine learning engine and the proposed hybrid engine obtained 0.961 and 0.972, respectively. This result indicates our method to be effective for Korean POS tagging.
