This work focuses on reducing the noise and vibration levels of an LPi fuel pump, which are generated from the dynamic motions of pump elements and non-uniform flow of fuel. The noise and vibration levels increase as the revolution speed of the cam goes up. The fuel pump consists of five cavity cells, plungers and diaphragms, which are driven by the cam. The optimal design of the cam profile is performed to decrease the accelerations of moving Parts and to obtain a smooth hydraulic force through a dynamic analysis of a cam-plunger mechanism. The cam-Plunger with a cavity is modeled as a 2 degrees of freedom system having non-linear contacts, the cam profile being represented in terms of Fourier series in order to determine the optimal shape of the cam. From the optimized cam Profile, the acceleration of the diaphragm is reduced in $78\%$, the hydraulic force becoming smoother in case that the hydraulic force is rapidly dropped.

Coarctation of the aorta is a congenital constriction of the aorta of varying degree usually located slightly distal to the origin of the left subclavian artery. This congenital malformation is found at 5-9% of the congenital heart disease in Europe & North America, but in our country, it is reported as one of rare malformations. We present a case of coarctation of the aorta, which had double diaphragms as discrete form. This is 9 year-old boy, who has suffered from hypertensive symptoms since 6 years before. Coarctation of the aorta was confirmed by aortography, and there was no combined anomalies, and it was postductal type, and coarctations were consisted of two diaphragmatic webs at the both ends with a central aneurysmized. After resection of the coarctated segment completely, Woven Dacron graft was inserted with 18mm in diameter & 2.5cm in length successfully.
The force transfer mechanism in positive moment continuity details for prestressed concrete girder bridges is investigated in this paper using a three-dimensional detailed finite element model. Positive moment reinforcement in the form of hairpin bars as recommended by the National Cooperative Highway Research Program Report No 519 is incorporated in the model. The cold construction joint that develops at the interface between girder ends and continuity diaphragms is also simulated via contact elements. The model is then subjected to the positive moment and corresponding shear forces that would develop over the service life of the bridge. The stress distribution in the continuity diaphragm and the axial force distribution in the hairpin bars are presented. It was found that due to the asymmetric configuration of the hairpin bars, asymmetric stress distribution develops at the continuity diaphragm, which can be exacerbated by other asymmetric factors such as skewed bridge configurations. It was also observed that when the joint is subjected to a positive moment, the tensile force is transferred from the girder end to the continuity diaphragm only through the hairpin bars due to the lack of contact between the both members at the construction joint. As a result, the stress distribution at girder ends was found to be concentrated around the hairpin bars influence area, rather than be resisted by the entire girder composite section. Finally, the results are used to develop an approach for estimating the cracking moment capacity at girder ends based on a proposed effective moment of inertia.

A peristaltic micropump with lightweight piezo-composite actuator (LIPCA) membrane valves is presented. The micropump contained three cylinder chambers that were connected by microchannels and two active membrane valves. A circular miniature LIPCA was developed and manufactured to be used as actuating diaphragms. The LIPCA diaphragm acted as an active membrane valve that alternate between open and closed positions at the inlet and outlet in order to produce high pumping pressure. In this LIPCA, a lead zirconium titanate ceramic with a thickness of 0.1 mm was used as an active layer. The results confirmed that the actuator produced a large out-of-plane deflection. During the design process, a coupled field analysis was conducted in order to predict the actuating behavior of the LIPCA diaphragm; the behavior of the actuator was investigated from both a theoretical and experimental perspective. The active membrane valve concept was introduced as a means for increasing pumping pressure, and microelectromechanical system techniques were used to fabricate the peristaltic micropump. The pumping performance was analyzed experimentally in terms of the flow rate, pumping pressure and power consumption.

Proteinuric conditions demonstrate structural and compositional changes of the foot processes and slit diaphragms between podocytes. p130Cas in podocytes serves as an adapter protein anchoring glomerular basement membrane to actin filaments of podocyte cytoskeleton. To investigate the effect of ginseng total saponin (GTS) on the pathologic changes of podocyte p130Cas induced by diabetic conditions, we cultured mouse podocytes under: 1) normal glucose (5 mM, control); 2) high glucose (HG, 30 mM); 3) advanced glycosylation endproducts (AGE)-added; or 4) HG plus AGE-added conditions and treated with GTS. In confocal imaging, p130Cas colocalized with zonula occludens-1 and synaptopodin connecting to F-actin. However, diabetic conditions relocalized p130Cas molecules at perinuclear cytoplasmic area and reduced the intensity of p130Cas. In Western blotting, diabetic conditions, especially HG plus AGE-added condition, decreased cellular p130Cas protein levels at 24 and 48 h. GTS improved such quantitative and qualitative changes. These findings imply that HG and AGE have an influence on the redistribution and amount of p130Cas of podocytes, which can be reversed by GTS.
This paper describes the fabrication and characterization of a differential pressure type integrated mass-flow controller made of stainless steel for reactive and corrosive gases. The fabricated mass-flow controller is composed of a normally closed valve and differential pressure sensor. A stacked solenoid actuator mounted on a base-block is utilized for precise and rapid control of gas flow. The differential pressure flow sensor consisting of four diaphragms can detect a flow rate by deflection of diaphragm. By a feedback control from the flow sensor to the valve actuator, it is possible to keep the flow rate constant. This device shows a fast response less than 0.3 sec. Also, this device shows accuracy less than 0.1% of full scale. It is confirmed that this device is not attacked by toxic gas, so the integrated mass-flow controller can be applied to advanced semiconductor processes which need fine mass-flow control corrosive gases with fast response.
This paper describes on the fabrication and characteristics of micro ceramic thin-film type pressure sensors based on Ta-N strain-gauges for high-temperature applications. The Ta-N thin-film strain-gauges are deposited onto thermally oxidized Si diaphragms by RF sputtering in an argon-nitrogen atmosphere($N_2$ gas ratio: 8 %, annealing condition: $900^{\circ}C$, 1 hr.), Patterned on a wheatstone bridge configuration, and use as pressure sensing elements with a high stability and a high gauge factor. The sensitivity is $1.097{\sim}1.21mV/V.kgf/cm^2$ in the temperature range of $25{\sim}200^{\circ}C$ and the maximum non-linearity is 0.43 %FS. The fabricated pressure sensor presents a lower TCR, non-linearity than existing Si piezoresistive pressure sensors. The fabricated micro ceramic thin-film type pressure sensor is expected to be usefully applied as pressure and load sensors that is operable under high-temperature environments.
A development of device with reduced size and improved sensitivity is highly impotant Pb(Zr,Ti)$O_3$ thin films are widely used both to make actuator and sensor due to their high sensitivity and low cost. In this study, the feasibility of a piezoelectric presssure sensors based on hybrid low-temperaute co-fired ceramic (LTCC) technology were presented. The LTCC diaphragms with thickness of $400\;{\mu}m$ were fabricated by laminating 4 green tapes which consist of alumina and glass particle in an organic binder. PZT thin films were successfully prepared on between top and bottom Au electrode with LTCC substrates using RF magnetron sputtering. In addition, The frequency response characteristics of the sensor under varing pressure has been analysed. by Network Analyser (HP-8722D). A frequency shift range has been obseved from 1.7GHz to 1.8GHz with a good linearity for applied pressure from 0 psi up to 25 psi.
In this paper, Si anisotropic etching characteristics of tetramethylammonium hydroxide (TMAH)/ ammonium persulfate (AP) solutions were investigated to realize the optimum structure of a diaphragm for the piezoresistive pressure sensor application. Due to its low toxicity and its high compatibility with the CMOS processing, TMAH was used as Si anisotropic etchants. The variations of Si etch rate on the etching temperature, TMAH concentration, and etching time were obtained. With increasing the etching temperature and decreasing TMAH concentrations, the Si etch rate is increased while a significant non-uniformity exists on the etched surface because of formation of hillocks on the <100> surface. With the addition of AP to TMAH solution, the Si etch rate is increased and an improvement in flatness on the etching front is observed. The Si etch rate is also maximized with increasing the number of addition of AP to TMAH solution per one hour. The Si square diaphragms of 20${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ thickness and 100~400${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ one-side length were fabricated successfully by applying optimum Si etching conditions of TMAH/AP solutions.
