  • Infill panel is the first element of a building subjected to blast loading activating its out-of-plane behavior. If the infill panel does not have enough ductility against the loading, it breaks and gets damaged before load transfer and energy dissipation. As steel infill panel has appropriate ductility before fracture, it can be used as an alternative to typical infill panels under blast loading. Also, it plays a pivotal role in maintaining sensitive main parts against blast loading. Concerning enough ductility of the infill panel out-of-plane behavior, the impact force enters the horizontal diaphragm and is distributed among the lateral elements. This article investigates the behavior of steel infill panels with different thicknesses and stiffeners. In order to precisely study steel infill panels, different ranges of blast loading are used and maximum displacement of steel infill under such various blast loading is studied. In this research, finite element analyses including geometric and material nonlinearities are used for optimization of the steel plate thickness and stiffener arrangement to obtain more efficient design for its better out-of-plane behavior. The results indicate that this type of infill with out-of-plane behavior shows a proper ductility especially in severe blast loadings. In the blasts with high intensity, maximum displacement of infill is more sensitive to change in the thickness of plate rather the change in number of stiffeners such that increasing the number of stiffeners and the plate thickness of infill panel would decrease energy dissipation by 20 and 77% respectively. The ductile behavior of steel infill panels shows that using infill panels with less thickness has more effect on energy dissipation. According to this study, the infill panel with 5 mm thickness works better if the criterion of steel infill panel design is the reduction of transmitted impulse to main structure. For example in steel infill panels with 5 stiffeners and blast loading with the reflected pressure of 375 kPa and duration of 50 milliseconds, the transmitted impulse has decreased from 41206 N.Sec in 20 mm infill to 37898 N.Sec in 5 mm infill panel.

  • In these days, the piezoresistive material has been applied to various sensors in order to measure the change of physical quantities. But the relationship between the sensitivity of a sensor and the position and size of piezoresistor has rarely been studied. Therefore, this paper was focused on the distribution of the resistance change ratio on the diaphragm and bridge surface where piezoresistor would be formed, and proposed the proper size and position of piezoresistor with which the sensitivity of sensor was increased. As the width of mass and boss was increased, the distance between piezoresistors was closed and the maximum value of resistance change ratio was decreased by the increase of the structure stiffness. And according to the increment of seismic mass size, the value of resistance change ratio is decreased by increase of the structure stiffness. Y directional piezoresistor is formed in the position of $100\mu{m}\;apart\;from\;cantilever\;edge\;and\;length\;of\;that\;is\;800\mu{m}$.

  • In this study, edible protopanaxadiol saponin enriched fraction were prepared by ultrafiltration (UF). Ginseng extract was prepared from mixtures of ginseng main root and rootlet (root: rootlet = 4 : 6). UF system was used the four-piston Diaphragm pump equipped with 5 kDa pore size Hydrosart Cassette made by regenerated cellulose acetate (CA) or 3 kDa pore size Hollow Fiber cartridge made by polyethersulfone (PES). Total ginsenoside contents of concentrated fraction by UF system was found to higher, compared to before those of untreated method. Especially, processing of UF showed the increase of PPD-type ginsenoside, while PPT-type ginsenoside was gradually decreased by both 3 kDa and 5 kDa membrane. After removal of 80% water by the 5 kDa Hydrosart Cassette and by 3 kDa Hollow Fiber cartridge, ginsenoside Rb1 content was higher 37.2 mg/g and 25.3 mg/g than 20.8 mg/g in untreated process. The ratio of Rb1 to Rg1 (Rb1/Rg1) and PPD- to PPT- type ginsenoside (PPD/PPT) were higher in inner fluid of ginseng extract after UF by 3 kDa cartridge (47.1 and 23.5, respectively) and 5 kDa Cassette (25.3 and 11.9, respectively) than those of before UF (5.7 and 3.7, respectively). PPD-type ginsenoside enriched fraction by UF system could be developed as a new ginseng material in food and cosmetic industrials.

  • Fourteen dogs referred to veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, Seoul National University were diagnosed as esophageal foreign body (9 cases), megaesophagus (4 cases) and esophageal stricture (1 case). Patients showed a variety of clinical signs including regurgitation, vomiting, anorexia, hypersalivation, and retching. Survey radiographic examination included the entire esophagus, including the caudal pharynx and cranial abdomen. contrast radiographs were done to identify lesions or to characterize abnormal radiographic findings on survey films. In case static contrast studies were not sufficient were not sufficient to differentiate the diseases, dynamic fluoroscopic studies were performed. In thoracic megaesophagus, when gas filled, it provided several hallmark findings such as visualization of paired longus colli muscle and tracheal stripe sign. When gas-distended, the caudal thoracic esophagus was seen as a pair of thin, soft-tissue stripes that converged into a point overlying the diaphragm and cranial abdomen. All cases of megaesophagus could be solely identified by survey radiographs. In esophageal foreign body, 6 cases out of 9 patients had the history of having foreign body and others not. Most of esophageal foreign body could be diagnosed on survey radiographs and one case with radiolucent foreign body was confirmed by esophagram. It appeared as radiopaque material along the path of esophagus and the radiopacity was determined by its nature. Obstruction caused by foreign body eventually led to dilation of the esophageal lumen cranial to the site in 3 cases. In esophageal stricture, there was no remarkable findings on survey radiograph of the thorax. However, esophagography with barium sulfate showed the narrowing of the esophagus near hiatus. On fluoroscopy, swallowed barium was stagnated cranial to the site despite the esophageal peristalsis.

  • The initial shape is arrived at by a self-formation process, which accomplishes a form in the natural world, or is determined analytically by considering the equilibrium of initial stress only. Therefore, the self-formation process, which accomplishes a form in the natural world is grasped and the types of modeling techniques available to find the shapes of soft structures are well investigated and classified. To establish a form-finding modeling techniques, the models of string, soap film, fabric, rubber, plaster, and etc. are used. These modeling techniques can be used as a method of understanding the characteristics of structures when the material of model shows similar characteristics. Generally, the model test confirms the structure based on numerical analysis, at the same time it is important preceding process to develop such a program. With the above process, the relationship between model test and numerical analysis becomes a feedback process. Therefore, in this study, two examples which have been accomplished from such a technique are investigated and considered according to modeling process.

  • This paper presents the FEM analysis results on the strength safety of a gas valve for a LPG cylinder. Based on the FEM analysis, the maximum von Mises stress on the boundary zone between a safety valve and the upper area of the thread is 99.2 MPa for the supplied gas pressure of 3.5 MPa in which the gas valve is fully opened. The maximum von Mises stress of 99.2 MPa is considered as safety value, because that value is lower than the yield stress of a brass material. In this case, the maximum deformation at the upper right part of the pressure regulator is 0.002mm. The maximum deformation zone is not a meaning part of the sealing part such as an O-ring or a diaphragm of a gas valve and a pressure regulator. The proposed hybrid gas valve model in which is integrated with a conventional cut-off valve and a pressure regulator is recommended as a gas leakage free mechanism and minimized compact size for a LPG cylinder.

  • Experimental works were carried out to evaluate how the lapse of time affects the performance characteristics and the service life of low pressure LPG regulators for domestic use. Experimental results showed that the operating pressure of safety devices deviated from the opening pressure value and the closing pressure value from just 1 year after service, and the operating pressure of regulators used for 7${\~}$8 years notably deviated from the reference value of the adjusting pressure and the closing pressure. And the material properties of springs and diaphragms deteriorated after 5${\~}$6 years of service. Thus, it is estimated that low pressure LPG regulators have approximately 6 years of service life. However, it is highly recommended that regulators exceeding 5 years of service should be replaced for the safety of consumer and accident prevention even if they are operating normally.

  • A pyrotechnic actuated device (PAD) is a component that delivers high power in remote environments by combustion of a self-contained energy source. Historically, the design of these devices has been largely empirical and considered to be an art. In this study, an overview for developing an analytical model is introduced that efficiently evaluates performance of PAD. The model is integrated by three parts of different disciplines that are coupled in sequence with each other. First is the solid explosive burning to form product gas within an actuator and transport to an expansion chamber. Second is the insertion of initially tapered piston into a small hole by gas pressure in the chamber. Third is the shear cutting of the diaphragm from the piston to enable gas flow into the conduit. Some results of preliminary study for each of three parts are introduced in the presentation.

  • A computational fluid dynamics simulation of pyrotechnic material combustion inside a cylindrical closed vessel was carried out using the Eulerian-Lagrangian method. The 5th order upwind WENO scheme and the improved delayed detached eddy turbulence model were implemented to capture shock waves. The flow structure was analyzed inside the cylindrical vessel with a pressure sensor installed at the side wall center. The analysis revealed that the pressure oscillated because of the shock wave vibration. Additionally, the simulation results with four different sensor tab depths implied that, inside the sensor tab, eddies were generated by the excessively large gap between the sensor diaphragm and the side wall. These eddies caused irregularity to the measured time-pressure curve, which is an undesirable characteristic.
