In this study, free vibration and damping characteristics of composite beams with holes are investigated, experimentally and numerically. Two types of samples with different fabrics are used: unidirectional and woven. The effects of diameter, number and location of circular holes on the vibration characteristics of composite beams are examined. The effects of rotation angle and minor to major diameter ratio of the elliptical hole are also investigated numerically. Moreover, the mode shapes of all types of beams are obtained numerically. According to the results, the natural frequency decreases with increasing hole diameter but increases very little with increasing the distance between the hole center and the clamped end. Damping ratio decreases by increasing the diameter of hole. But it fluctuates by increasing the diameters of holes of beam having three holes. Furthermore it decreases by increasing the distance between hole center and clamped end except for the range 50 mm to 100 mm.
The axial compression behavior of nine self-compacting concrete columns confined with CFRP-PVC spirals was studied. Three parameters of spiral reinforcement spacing, spiral reinforcement diameter and height diameter ratio were studied. The test results show that the CFRP strip and PVC tube are destroyed first, and the spiral reinforcement and longitudinal reinforcement yield. The results show that with the increase of spiral reinforcement spacing, the peak bearing capacity decreases, but the ductility increases; with the increase of spiral reinforcement diameter, the peak bearing capacity increases, but has little effect on ductility, and the specimen with the ratio of height to diameter of 7.5 has the best mechanical properties. According to the reasonable constitutive relation of material, the finite element model of axial compression is established. Based on the verified finite element model, the stress mechanism is revealed. Finally, the composite constraint model and bearing capacity calculation method are proposed.
In this paper, an optimization design method of a diffuser using Bernoulli's theorem was reviewed. The aspect ratio of the cylindrical diffuser chamber and the diameter ratio of the air inlet and outlet were used as design parameters. For the optimal design of the cylindrical diffuser chamber, the air flow inside the chamber was simulated using ANSYS while changing the aspect ratio of the chamber. In order to confirm the simulation results, the diffuser manufactured using the laser processing machine was measured. Through ANSYS simulation and measurement, it was found that the optimal design condition was when the aspect ratio (chamber height/radius) of the diffuser chamber was 1/2 and the diameter ratio of the air inlet and outlet was also 1/2.
In the case of heavy duty diesel engines, the Urea-SCR system is currently considered to reduce the NOx emission as a proved technology, and it is widely studied to get the high performance and durability. However, the nozzles to inject the urea-water solution into the exhaust pipe occur some problems, including the nozzle clogging, deposition of urea-water solution on the inner wall of the exhaust pipe, resulting in the production of urea salt. In this study, a swirl-type twin-fluid nozzle to produce more fine droplets was used as a method to solve the problems. The effect of the nozzle cap geometry, including the length to diameter ratio ($l_o/d_o$) and chamfer, on the spray characteristics were investigated experimentally. The length to diameter ratio of nozzle cap were varied from 0.25 to 1.125. The chamfer angle of the nozzle cap was constant at 90o. The mean velocity and droplet size distributions of the spray were measured using a 2-D PDA (phase Doppler analyzer) system, and the spray half-width, AMD (arithmetic mean diameter) and SMD (Sauter mean diameter) were analyzed. At result, The larger length to diameter ratio of nozzle cap were more small SMD and AMD. The effect of the chamfer did increase the radial velocity, while it did not affect the atomization effect.

Sacroiliac dislocation is the separation of the iliac wing from the pelvic bone and needs to be repaired by surgery. Corrective surgical methods include open reduction and minimally invasive techniques. In the present study, we used a minimally invasive surgical technique in seven dogs with sacroiliac dislocation. Five cases had unilateral sacroiliac joint luxation and two cases had bilateral sacroiliac joint luxation; all were referred to hospital after being hit by an automobile. All cases were treated with a fluoroscope-assisted, minimally invasive technique. Patients were evaluated by measuring surgery time, postoperative ambulatory time, and calculating pelvic canal diameter ratios. Surgery time was measured from initial incision to completion of skin closure. Mean surgery time was 30.6 minutes in unilateral sacroiliac joint luxation and 68 minutes in bilateral sacroiliac joint luxation. Mean preoperative pelvic canal diameter ratio was 1.22 (${\pm}0.27$), immediate postoperative pelvic canal diameter ratio was 1.26 (${\pm}0.10$), and at 2 weeks after surgery, the pelvic canal diameter ratio was 1.37 (${\pm}0.22$). All cases were ambulatory within 1 week and mean postoperative ambulatory time was 5 days. Based on the results, the use of a minimally invasive technique for correction of sacroiliac dislocation can decrease surgical time, lessen operative and postoperative burdens on patients, and provide owners with a good prognosis.
Concentric annular heat pipes (CAHP) were fabricated and tested to investigate their thermal characteristics. The CAHPs were 25.4 mm in outer diameter and 200 mm in length. The inner surface of the heat pipes was covered with screen mesh wicks and they were connected by four bridge wicks to provide liquid return path. Three different heat pipes were fabricated to observe the effect of change in diameter ratios between 2.31 and 4.23 while using the same outer tube dimensions. The major concern of this study was the transient response as well as isothermal characteristics of the heat pipe outer surface, considering the application as uniform heating device. A better performance was achieved as the diameter ratio increased. For the thermal load of 180 W, the maximum temperature difference on the outer surface in the axial direction of CAHP was $2.3^{\circ}C$ while that of the copper block of the same outer dimension was $5.9^{\circ}C.$ The minimum thermal resistance of the CAHP was measured to be $0.004^{\circ}C/W.$ In regard to the transient response during start-up, the heat pipe showed almost no time lag to the heat source, while the copper block of the same outer dimensions exhibited about 25 min time lag.
The aim of this study was to develop special birdcage resonators for small objects including the human wrist, hand and small animals, using 3T MRI/MRS. Before substantial development, different types of parameters were arranged, based on theoretical analysis, through lumped element transmission line theory. The primary analysis was peformed with a network analyzer (HP 4195A) and the final experimental analysis was carried out with 3T MRI (Medinus, Korea). The manufactured birdcage resonator is typically composed of 12-element structures to which a low-pass filter is fundamentally applied. The diameter and length of each element of the birdcage resonator were as follows: (1) diameter 12 cm, length of element 22 cm, (2) diameter 15 cm, length of element 22 cm, and (2) diameter 17 cm, length of element 25 cm. Copper tape with a width of 1 cm was used for the coils. MRI acquisition parameters were TR=500 ms, TE=17 ms, and Ave=2 for T1-WT images, and TR=4,000 ms, TE=96 ms, and Ave=2 for T2-WT images. The ratio of the samples diameter to the birdcage resonators diameter was approximately 55%, 63% and 70%, respectively, for the three elements. This study determined that the best image quality and S/N ratio were obtained when the ratio of the object's diameter was approximately 50∼80%. A general theoretical analysis of the birdcage coil differs in many respects from the experimental results which were influenced by many factors that were not considering when the general theoretical analysis of the birdcage coil was peformed. The induced resistance may be considered as part of the resistive loss if the quantitative value can be determined using a radiation resistance approach.
Von Mises stress and compliance distribution was evaluated using a finite element analysis on the end-to-side anastomosis of an artery with length of $20\sim24mm$, inner diameter of 4mm, thickness of 0.5mm and a PTFE graft with length of 10mm, inner diameter of 2mm, thickness of 0.2mm when the anastomotic angle was taken from $30^{\circ}\sim90^{\circ}$ in every $10^{\circ}$ and the diameter ratio from $0.1\sim1$ in every 0.1. The inner pressure of $1330dyne/mm^2$ was applied inside the 2 conduits. It was found that the compliance whose magnitude is larger on the acute angle anastomotic side than on the acute angle side became larger as the anastomotic angle became smaller and the diameter ratio larger and that the equivalent stress on the acute angle anastomotic side was larger than that on the abtuse angle side and became larger as the anastomotic angle and the diameter ratio became larger.

In this study, for the purpose of reducing the catch of small giant octopus in a net pot, an escape experiment of octopus was performed on five types of escape rings of different sizes. As a result of the experiment, the smallest giant octopus with a weight of 406 g was found to escape from an escape ring with a diameter of 30 mm or larger, and 592 g octopus, a weight similar to the octopus of the current minimum landing weight (600 g), escaped from an escape ring with a diameter of larger than 40 mm. An individual weight with 406 g becomes 39 mm when converted from a diameter of 25 mm circular escape vent; that is, the circumference to the inner diameter of the mesh. It can be inferred that the converted mesh size of 39 mm cannot escape. Logistic regression analysis was performed using a generalized linear model (GLM) to investigate the correlation between the ratio of escape ring size/Mantle diameter (R/MD) and the escape rate. As a result, it was found that there was a significant correlation between the R/MD ratio and the escape rate and that the higher the R/MD ratio, the greater the escape rate. As a result of logistic regression analysis, the R/MD value was denoted 0.520 with the 50% escape rate. In addition, it can be estimated to be about 50 mm when converted to the mesh size. Therefore, in this study, the diameter of the escape ring and the size of the escape possible of the octopus were experimentally considered. It was found that there was a significant correlation.
