  • The study focuses on the Repeated Measurements Design (RMD) which observations are periodically made for identical subjects within definite time periods. One of the purposes of this design is to monitor and keep track of replicated records within regular period over years. This paper also presents the classification models of RMD that is developed according to the number of factors in Between-Subject (BS) variates and Within-Subject (WS) variates. The types of models belong to each number of factors: One factor is 0BS 1WS. Two factors are 1BS 1WS and 0BS 2WS. Three factors are 1BS 2WS and 2BS 1WS. Lastly, the four factors include model of 2BS 2WS In addition, the study explains the generation mechanism of models for RMD using Generalizability Design (GD). GD is a useful method for practitioners to identify linear model of experimental design, since it generates a Venn diagram. Lastly, the research develops three types of 1BS 2WS RMDs with crossed factors and nested factors. Those are random models, mixed models and fixed models and they are presented by using Generalizability Design, $(S:A{\times}B){\times}C$. Moreover, the example of applications and its implementation steps of models developed in the study are presented for better comprehension.

  • In order to overcome the problems with first generation expert systems at the symbol level, recently various knowledge level development techniques of second generation expert systems have been proposed. But, these techniques are conceptual modelling techniques. This paper modifies and complements these conceptual modelling techniques and proposes a Task Object Modelling (TOM) technique as a practical knowledge level expert system development technique. This paper defines a Task Object(TO) as a knowledge unit consisted of a goal, execution conditions, behaviour knowledge, and so on. And, we define a Task Object Diagram(TOD) to depict structual, dynamic, and functional aspects of TO easily. We also define Inference Types as basic units to describe behaviour knowledge of TOs. In order to utilize the proposed TOM technique as not a simple conceptual modelling technique but a practical second generalion expert system development technique, we implement a TOD editor, a TO editor, and TO processing algorithm based on the state of TOs. Also we implement a Inference Types Library, in which each inference type is corresponded to an IRE(Jntelligent Rules Element) method, to transform the defined inference types into IRE methods automatically.

  • This paper presents a method to generate a model of the code implementation for UML state diagrams. First, it promotes the states of a state machine into objects, and then it structures the behavior model on the mechanism of a state diagram based on State design pattern. Then, it establishes the rules of generating the code implementation, and using the rules, the Java code mode is generated for the implementations of State Diagrams in Java syntax grammar. In addition, Structuring the information of the code model is necessary for generating Java code automatically. The meta information is composed of Meta-Class Model and Meta-Behavior Model, on which we could construct the automatic code generating engine for UML State Diagrams. The implementation model generation method presented in this paper could be used as a stand-alone engine, or included and integrated as a module in the UML tools.

  • In this paper, a design problem of the flywheel energy storage system controller using genetic algorithm (GA) is investigated for a frequency control of the wind diesel hybrid power generation system in an isolated power system. In order to select parameters of the FESS controller, two performance indexes are used. We evaluated a frequency control effect for the wind diesel hybrid power system according to change of the weighted values of a performance index. To verify performance of the FESS controller according to the weighted value of the performance index, the frequency domain analysis using a singular value bode diagram and the dynamic simulations for various weighted values of performance index were performed. To verify control performance of the designed FESS controller, the eigenvalue analysis and the dynamic simulations were performed. The control characteristics with the two designed FESS controller were compared with that of the conventional pitch controller. The simulation results showed that the FESS controller provided better dynamic responses in comparison with the conventional controller.

  • With the study for identifying the transmission characteristics of vibration and noise generated by operating engine system of a vehicle, recently many engineers have studied actively the reduction of vibration and noise inducing uncomfortableness to the passenger. In this study, output noise was analyzed by multi-dimensional spectral analysis and vector synthesis method. The multi-dimensional analysis method is very effective in case of identification of primary source, but this method has little effect on suggestion for interior noised reduction. For compensation of this, vector synthesis method was used to obtain effective method for interior noise reduction, after identifying primary source for output noise. In this paper, partial coherence function of each input was calculated to know which input was most coherent to output noise, then with simulation of changes for input magnitude and phase by vector synthesis diagram, the trends of synthesized output vector was obtained. As a result, the change of synthesized output vector could be estimated.

  • In this paper, we propose a testing method of the quality of device application effectively reflecting the necessity of increasing mobile device application quality test, and designed and developed it as a web system. We have studied traditional software testing methods for designing and developing a system. We have developed a next-generation alternative technology that can analyze and compensate for the weaknesses of the web and weaknesses of the Android in order to realize the access system and the responsive web system. As an example applied to the system, we analyzed the requirements of the system implementation and expressed the functions of the system through the use case diagram. The test scenarios were conducted by connecting 5,000 devices to each system using the existing HTTP polling method and the proposed web socket method. After setting the comparative group, the result of the proposed web management system was observed and compared through repeated tests. The research shows that the proposed web socket system has better performance than HTTP polling. The more the number of simultaneous processing of the devices, the lower the server stability but the better the time efficiency. In conclusion, the more the number of devices to be tested is, the more the number of devices can be effectively tested using the proposed web management system.

  • Large scale display panel(LSDP) is a main component in the next generation main control rooms. LSDP is located at the front of VDU-based operator's workstation and plays an important role in providing operators with overall information of plant status through mimic diagram, text/digit, graph, and so on. A critical matter determined at the first stage of LSDP design is how much information is displayed, because the information density of LSDP affects operator's performance. Many human factors guidelines recommend low information density of displays to avoid degrade of operator's performance, but doesn't provide a useful limit of information density. In this paper, we considered information density as the number of plant parameters and investigated the proper number of plant parameters through a human factors experiment. The experiment with 4 subjects was carried out and response time, error, and heart rate variation as criterion measures were recorded and analyzed. As the results, it is identified that the proper number of parameters in a LSDP is about thirty.

  • Currently, IoT mobile applications are growing fast in number and complexity. As a result, the applications quality issue became crucial, hence to ensure their quality a proper testing is highly required. Testing such mobile applications is always tedious, time-consuming and expensive. To cope with these issues, we propose a testing approach using activity diagram with data flow information. The main functionality of IoT applications is exposing the meaningful data obtained from the sensors to the users by doing a lot of analysis, comparison, and computation. Therefore, our focus is on identifying and selecting the most appropriate paths at which calculation is taking place and the paths at which predicate exists. In our case study, we have used a real-world IoT mobile application and identified a total of ten test paths with two predicate uses and two computation uses through an example. With applying only this four critical paths, we can adequately test the application's core functionalities while significantly reduce the testing effort and cost.

  • Lean laminar premixed propane and methane flames which were anchored by a hydrogen-pilot flame in a tube were investigated experimentally. The flame shapes were observed by varying mean velocity from 10cm/s to 140cm/s and equivalence ratio from 0.45 to 0.8. In this study, behaviors of flames are divided into five regions such as tail-out, flash-back, flickering, stable and vibrating flames with respect to the mean velocity and the equivalence ratio. Although the flames are unstable in both the flickering and the vibrating region, they have different characteristics such as the frequency, sound generation and creation process of flame curvature. The flickering region exists near the flammability limit and the flame flickers in a frequency of about 10Hz. When flame front is bended, the propane flame front is straightened and the methane flame front is bended more by thermo-diffusive instability. In the vibrating region, the flame vibrates emitting audible sound in a frequency of about 100Hz. In the boundary of vibrating region, the vibration of flame changes between two modes such as single frequency vibration and dual frequency vibration. Increase and decrease of vibration in each mode are determined by thermo-acoustic instability.

  • To enhance thermal efficiency of thermal facility through recovery of low and medium temperature waste heat, 1MW organic Rankine cycle system was designed and developed. The exhaust gases of $175^{\circ}C$ at two 100MW power plants in pohang steel works were selected as the representative of low and medium temperature waste heat in industrial process for the heat source of the organic Rankine cycle system. HCFC-123, a kind of harmless refrigerant, was chosen as the working fluid for Rankine cycle. The organic Rankine cycle system with selected exhaust gases and working fluid was designed and constructed. From the operation, it was confirmed that the organic Rankine cycle system is available for low and medium temperature waste heat recovery in industrial process. The optimum operating manuals, such as heat-up of hot water, turbine start-up, and the process of electric power generation, were derived. However, electric power generated was not 1MW as designed but only 670kW. It is due to deficiency of pump capacity for supply of HCFC-123. So it is necessary to increase the pump capacity or to decrease the pressure loss in pipe for more improved HCFC-123 supply.
