  • Purpose: This bibliometric analysis aimed to provide a comprehensive overview of the characteristics, trends, and level of diagnostic efficacy of studies on cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) published in Imaging Science in Dentistry (ISD) from 2011 to 2022. Materials and Methods: Publications related to CBCT identified in the electronic collection of ISD were selected according to eligibility criteria by 2 independent reviewers who collected data on the characteristics of the articles (year, authors, and country). The type and topic of studies were analyzed using VOSviewer v.1.6.18 (Centre for Science and Technology Studies, Leiden University, Leiden, Netherlands). The research articles were classified according to the hierarchical scale of diagnostic efficacy. Results: Of the 236 articles included, most were from South Korea and Brazil. Bong-Hae Cho and Yun-Hoa Jung were the most prolific authors on the topic of CBCT. The most frequently published types of studies were cross-sectional and laboratory-based. The most popular topics WERE related to the diagnosis of pathologies and/or alterations, as well as anatomical variations. On the diagnostic efficacy scale, most studies were rated level 1 (technical efficacy) or 2 (diagnostic accuracy efficacy). Conclusion: A steady increase was observed in publications related to CBCT, which are of both clinical and academic interest. The trends in these publications were analyzed, revealing that most are cross-sectional studies primarily exploring the capabilities of CBCT in diagnosing pathologies and/or changes in the oral and maxillofacial complex. These studies were typically classified as level 1 or 2 on the diagnostic efficacy scale.

  • A tongue coating evaluation method for WTCI(Winkel Tongue Coating Index) is proposed in this paper, which is used as the diagnostic criteria in the tongue diagnosis. This method uses the color channel analysis and tongue coating extraction from the ultraviolet tongue image. Proposed method analyzes the histogram distribution of the respective color channel for extracting a tongue coating, and performs the verification test from the selected color channel in the tongue coating extraction. Also, Objectivity of the tongue diagnostic criteria is verified by the artificial sample and real-tongue image experiments. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed Computerized Assistant WTCI Evaluation method, after verifying a measurement accuracy by using the artificial sample images, and applying to the various real-tongue image of subjects. As a result, the proposed WTCI method is very successful.

  • Streptococcus pneumoniae associated hemolytic uremic syndrome (SpHUS) is one of the causes of atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome, and increasingly reported. They are more severe and leave more long-term sequelae than more prevalent, typical hemolytic uremic syndrome. But it is not so easy to diagnose SpHUS for several reasons (below), and there was no diagnostic criteria of consensus. A 18 month-old-girl with sudden onset of oliguria and generalized edema was admitted through the emergency room. She had pneumonia with pleural effusion and laboratory findings of HUS, DIC, and positive direct Coombs' test. As DIC or SpHUS was suspected, we started to treat her with broad spectrum antibiotics, transfusion of washed RBC and replacement of antithrombin III. On the $3^{rd}$ day, due to severe hyperkalemia and metabolic acidosis, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) was started. She showed gradual improvement in 4 days on CRRT and discharged in 16 days of hospital care. At the follow up to one year, she has maintained normal renal function without proteinuria and hypertension. We report this case with review of articles including recently suggested diagnostic criteria of SpHUS.

  • Background and Purpose : Medical and Neurological complications in patients with acute stroke may affect their prognosis including death rate, function and admission period. Some of these complications may be preventable. But few data exist regarding complications occurring in the first weeks. So we sought to observe the type, timing, and frequency of complications in hospitalized patients after stroke. Methods : We retrospectively examined the case notes of patients admitted in Won Kwang Oriental Medical Hospital after stroke. Two observers inspected the case notes using predifined diagnostic criteria and recorded the type, timing, and frequency of complications that occurred during the inpatient period. Results : Complications were recorded in 43 patients(82.7%). The most common medical complications were constipation(25.0%) and shoulder pain(21.2%). The most frequent serious medical problems were pulmonary infection(9.6%) and UTI(7.7%). The most common neurological complications were insomnia(34.6%) and dysphagia(23.7%). The most frequent serious medical problem was mental deterioration(7.7%). Conclusion : Complications after acute stroke are common. There were more medical complications than neurological complications. So we should compile much knowledge about medical complications and treat them actively. The differences between our study and previous studies are attributable to the different methods including patient selection and diagnostic criteria.

  • This study was conducted to determine the daily application rate and amount of N and K with fertigation during different growth stages in semi-forcing culture of cucumber plants (Cucumis sativus L. cv. Eunseongbaekdadagi). The diagnostic criteria for N and K also investigated based on petiole sap analysis. The dry weight increased slowly until 30 days after transplanting. The highest dry weights were observed at 60 days after planting, then it decreased. As the plant grew, the contents of N and K in the petiole sap and fruit of cucumber decreased. The daily uptake of N and K were highly correlated with the growing days. The $NO_3$ concentrations in petiole sap were in the range from 3,500 to 4,500 mgㆍ$L^{-1}$ in the early growth stage, but those were in the range from 2,000 to 3,000 mgㆍ$L^{-1}$ after then. However, K concentration in petiole sap were in the rang from 5,000 to 7,000 mgㆍ$L^{-1}$ The fluctuation in petiole sap concentration of K was severe in the monthly fertigation and moderate in the daily fertigation. The fertigation by petiole sap diagnosis forced EC of soil to be low and yield to increase compared to the control.

  • The purposes of this study are to compare data for work-related musculoskeletal disorders(WMSDs) between Korea and USA, and to investigate status of WMSDs for industrial safety managers. The first part of this study was based on statistical data annually published by Minister of Labor of Korea and Bureau of Labor Statistics of USA. The latter was performed by using questionnaire survey for industrial safety managers in two regions. The results showed that the WMSDs incidence rate was significantly lower in Korea than in USA, and that there is big difference in the distribution of occupational illness by category of illness between Korea and USA. The questionnaire survey revealed that knowledge level about WMSDs was significantly affected depending upon corresponding companies' location and size, and that the low back pain was the most prevalent illness among varying WMSDs symptoms, followed by tendonitis/tenosynovitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, and tennis elbow. Based on this study, it is recommended that the future education/training for WMSDs focus on their preventative measures, methods/tools for identifying their risk factors, and diagnostic criteria for judging suspicious symptoms for industrial accidents, and that the governmental policy for WMSDs be changed towards financial supporting for preventive facilities, establishing objective diagnostic criteria and training for WMSDs.

  • Objectives The purpose of this study was to survey the status of clinical use of a computerized tongue diagnosis system (CTDS) Methods We searched domestic/international articles using the CTDS from online medical databases including OASIS, NDSL and pubmed. We selected articles on clinical application or reliability of CTDS but excluded articles on mechanical design or software programming for developing a new CTDS. Finally we found 15 articles and classified the articles according to the study purpose. Results Out of the 15 articles, 8 were focused on the clinical application including halitosis, cold/heat syndrome, lung cancer, xerostomia etc. Other 5 articles were aimed at evaluating and improving reliability of CTDS. The other 2 articles were studied for development of differential diagnostic criteria on tongue coating thickness. Conclusion We found out that until now the researches on clinical application of CTDS mainly had been performed for producing a variety of CTDSs. Considering the importance of the tongue color in the traditional Korean medicine, we suggest that at first standard operating procedure for CTDS be developed and researches to develop differential diagnostic criteria on tongue body/coating color be performed and then explore its applications.

  • Research on obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) has advanced substantially since the DSM-IV was published in 1994. It is time to reexamine the nosology of this disorder, reviewing conflicting views regarding the classification as well as subtypes and specifiers of OCD. Although there is ongoing debate, OCD experts have suggested that OCD be retained in the section related to anxiety disorders and also that along with OCD, this section include obsessive-compulsive spectrum disorders (OCSD), a group of disorders closely related to OCD. A combined 'anxiety and obsessive-compulsive spectrum chapter' has also been proposed to include OCSDs. A growing body of scientific data has provided empirical support for the inclusion of a 'tic-related' subtype of OCD in the DSM-V. However, it remains controversial as to whether to introduce OCD symptom dimensions as specifiers as well as items in the diagnostic criteria. With regard to compulsive hoarding, there has been sufficient evidence to recommend that it be classified in the DSM-V as a separate disorder. Much work remains in order to ensure that the DSM-V is as evidence based as possible. It is necessary to strive toward integrating the biological and psychological data related to OCD and OCSD based on their endophenotypic features.

  • Behcet's disease is a chronic, relapsing multisystem disorder, that may develop into variable neurological manifestations. They include vascular and parenchymal involvement. Vascular involvement is dominated by cerebral venous sinus thrombosis marked by benign intracranial hypertension. Cerebral venous sinus thrombosis can present with all the classical criteria for idiopathic intracranial hypertension, including normal brain CT findings with normal CSF content. But brain MRI is a useful diagnostic method in this situation to confirm the presence of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis. We experienced a case of raised intracranial pressure in a 21-year-old man, caused by cerebral venous sinus thrombosis. We disclosed his symptoms and signs thus fulfilling the diagnostic criteria for Behcet's disease.
