In this study, we applied 10-metric health assessment model, based on the Index of Biological Integrity (IBI) during 2006 in the Changwon Stream, which is located in the Changwon city, Gyeongnam province, S. Korea, and then compared with water quality data. The Index of Biological Integrity (IBI) in the Changwon Stream varied from 18 to 38 in the watershed depending on the sampling location and averaged 30.3 (n=6) during the study. Analysis of tolerance guilds showed that the proportion of sensitive species was 13%, but tolerant and intermediate species were 34% and 53%, respectively. Qualitative Habitat Evaluation Index (QHEI) averaged 43.3 (range: 65-104, n=6) indicating non-supporting condition, based on the criteria of U.S. EPA (1993). Values of QHEI showed a typical longitudinal decreases from the headwater reach to the downstream location, except for Site 1 with a low QHEI value by artificial habitat by concrete construction. Minimum QHEI was found in Site 4 where fish diversity was minimal. Conductivity increased continuously along the gradients and especially showed abrupt increases in the downstream sites along with turbidity. Stream ecosystem health of IBI matched to the values of QHEI except for S6. Low IBI values in the sites 4 and 5 was considered to be a result of combined effects of chemical pollutions and habitat degradations. Our results support the hypotheses of Plafkin et ai. (1989) that physical habitat quality directly influences the trophic structure and species richness, and is closely associated with IBI values.
Recently excessive daytime sleepiness was found to have relations with various social, occupational, and health problems. This condition is common symptom of several sleep disorders, among which sleep apnea syndrome is most contributive. It is essential to assess daytime sleepiness exactly for the diagnosis of such sleep disorders. Multiple sleep latency test which is a valid and objective measurement technique of sleepiness is time and cost consuming, and so there is increasing need of scales measuring general level of daytime sleepiness which are quick and simple to perform for clinical and research purpose. And also, there have been a lot of sleep researches viewing sleep as a chronobiological process, especially in the study of circadian type of shift workers. In these studies they used various techniques of multiple demensions to assess sleepiness or circadian rhythm which concerns various psychological variables. Of these measurement techniques circadian type questionnaires might have some problems in their psychometric properties. So some of these morningness-eveningness questionnaires have been revised and more valid scales are being suggested by different authors. The author briefly reviewed various measurement techniques of sleepiness and circadian rhythm and introduced recently developed scales which are more valid allegedly, and finally discussed psychometric properties of these morningness-eveningness questionnaires.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a group training program designed to control the desire for internet games and to promote self-efficacy and alternative activities. The subjects participating in this study were 32 fifth graders, divided into the experimental group of 16 and the control group of 16, who were carefully selected from 175 children in the fifth grade in S elementary school in J city. All the subjects belong in the top 20% according to the internet game addiction level and spend more than two hours and thirty minutes a day playing computer game. And they participated in the game desire control program, which were consisted of total eight-session' treatment for six weeks. As well as, data about average playing time spent on computer games and time the children spent on playing computer games alternative activities were analyzed and collected by the interview and other written materials such as letters from the parents to their children and writings of the children on their feelings about interret games. The results of this study were as follows: The internet game control program was effective in decreasing the degree of game addiction. The children participating in the internet game control program showed greater increase in self-efficacy than those of the control group. The children participating in the program showed a sharp decline in the time spent on playing computer games and greater increase in the time spent on alternative activities than those of the control group.
Background: Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a clonal hematopoietic disorder resulting from genetic alterations in normal hematopoietic stem cells. The aim of this study was to evaluate prognostic factors and survival of AML patients in the Northeast of Iran. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study covered 96 patients with AML referred to Emam Reza Hospital, Mashhad city, Iran, from 2009 to 2015. Age, sex, blood group, type of AML, fever, consumption of amphotericin B, cytogenetic forms and survival were analyzed. Also, WBC, hemoglobin and platelet levels were checked. Mean follow-up was 30.5 months (60.4% mortality). Survival was plotted by GraphPad Prism 5 with Log-rank test. Results: The mean age for all AML patients at diagnosis was 40.4 years (range, 17-77 years). Some 42.7% patients were aged <35 years and 40.6% were male. In all patients, 76% had fever and 50% consumed amphotericin. T(15;17)(q22;q21) had the most prevalence (37.7%) compared to other forms. Out of 92 patients, O+(30.4%) was the most common blood group and AML-M5 (28.3%) the most common subtype. There was a significant difference in survival based on WBC and consumption of amphotericin B (P<0.05). Conclusions: WBC level, fever and consumption of amphotericin B proved to be factors for survival of AML patients. The mean age for patients in Iran is lower than other areas in the World and also survival in this study was higher than in other studies.
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the degree of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms and the effect of PTSD on quality of life (QoL) among coronary artery disease (CAD) patients. Methods: The participants were 135 CAD patients who visited outpatient clinics in a university hospital in B city of Korea. Their PTSD symptoms and QoL were measured by structured questionnaires and analyzed with multiple hierarchical regression analysis. Results: Among the 135 participants, 20.7% were classified as moderate risk, and 3.7% as high risk for PTSD. PTSD symptoms were significantly higher in participants who were diagnosed with CAD within 6 months (t=26.02, p<.001). The physical component of health-related QoL was influenced by gender (${\beta}=-.25$, p =.003), recurrence of CAD (${\beta}=.21$, p =.008), and PTSD symptoms (${\beta}=-.33$, p <.001). The mental component of health-related QoL was influenced by religion (${\beta}=-.17$, p =.044), body mass index (${\beta}=.17$, p =.033), and PTSD symptoms (${\beta}=-.37$, p <.001). Conclusion: Patients who had had a CAD diagnosis for less than 6 months were found to be vulnerable to PTSD, and PTSD was found to have a negative impact on the physical and mental components of their QoL. It is necessary to develop an intervention program for the effective prevention and management of PTSD symptoms in patients with CAD.

Deep learning is another field of artificial intelligence (AI) utilized for computer aided diagnosis (CAD) and image processing in scientific research. Considering numerous mechanical repetitive tasks, reading image slices need time and improper with geographical limits, so the counting of image information is hard due to its strong subjectivity that raise the error ratio in misdiagnosis. Regarding the highest mortality rate of Lung cancer, there is a need for biopsy for determining its class for additional treatment. Deep learning has recently given strong tools in diagnose of lung cancer and making therapeutic regimen. However, identifying the pathological lung cancer's class by CT images in beginning phase because of the absence of powerful AI models and public training data set is difficult. Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) was proposed with its essential function in recognizing the pathological CT images. 472 patients subjected to staging FDG-PET/CT were selected in 2 months prior to surgery or biopsy. CNN was developed and showed the accuracy of 87%, 69%, and 69% in training, validation, and test sets, respectively, for T1-T2 and T3-T4 lung cancer classification. Subsequently, CNN (or deep learning) could improve the CT images' data set, indicating that the application of classifiers is adequate to accomplish better exactness in distinguishing pathological CT images that performs better than few deep learning models, such as ResNet-34, Alex Net, and Dense Net with or without Soft max weights.
Purpose: Management of pediatric subtrochanteric femur fractures (SFFs) is difficult. The aim of this study was to evaluate the outcomes of adolescent SFFs treated with adult proximal humeral locking plates (PHLPs). Materials and Methods: A retrospective analysis of 18 adolescents (11 male, 7 female) with a diagnosis of SFF who underwent internal fixation with a PHLP was conducted. Data regarding injury mechanism, fracture pattern, and time to union were recorded for all patients. In addition, a clinical and functional evaluation of patients was performed using the Harris hip score (HHS), Iowa hip score (IHS), modified Merle d'Aubigne-Postel score (MMAPS), Flynn criteria, and hip range of motion (ROM). Results: The mean age of the patients was 12.72±2.05 years (range, 10-16 years). Radiological observation was performed for evaluation of five different injury mechanisms and different fracture patterns in patients. The mean postoperative HHS was 92.27±5.61, the mean IHS was 90.88±6.46, and the mean MMAPS was 17.22±0.94. According to the Flynn criteria, excellent results were achieved in 14 cases and satisfactory results were obtained in four cases. Measurements of the patients' mean hip ROM values were as follows: 17.77±3.52° in extension, 115.27±6.74° in flexion, 43.05±3.48° in abduction, 27.50±4.28° in adduction, 42.22±4.60° in internal rotation, and 42.22±3.91° in external rotation. Conclusion: Surgery performed on adolescent patients using an adult PHLP showed good, safe results. Therefore, it should be considered as an alternative option.
The purpose of this study was to gather baseline data to be used for improving housing environments and developing welfare policies for low-income groups by identifying the similarities and differences in housing environmental conditions and in the usages of community welfare services between the dwellers of Da-Ka-Gu rental housing and those of permanent rental apartment. This multifaceted diagnosis currently being undertaken can be utilized through the lowincome housing planning and welfare policies as the basis for future policy formulation. Self-administered questionnaires and interviews were carried out by 212 dwellers in Da-Ka-Gu rental housing (104) and permanent rental apartments (108) in the city of Gwangju from July to October of 2010. The main findings are as follows: 1. The dwellers living in both Da-Ka-Gu rental housing and permanent rental apartments are satisfied with their housing environment. Specifically, a higher satisfaction with transportation and a lower satisfaction with neighbor's inter-relationships were evident. The dwellers of Da-Ka-Gu rental housing appear to be more satisfied with community spaces and housing management than those of the permanent rental apartments, whereas the latter appear to be less satisfied with the noise of the housing complex than the former. 2. Of the community welfare service programs, a higher usage is shown for meals service, free health screenings, home repair, and after-school learning programs among all residents in the two housing types. In particular, for the residents of Da-Ka-Gu rental housing, the children's education and parent education programs are more popular, whereas for those of the permanent rental apartments, the housekeeping services and health services utilization are highest.
Objectives: This study is conducted to identify the cancer incidence in Gwangju during the 5-year period from 1998 to 2002 and to assess the completeness and validity of the cancer registry data during this time period. Methods: All cases that had a diagnosis of invasive cancer (ICD-10 sites C00-C97) during the study period were retrieved from the records of the Gwangju Cancer Registry (GCR), which theoretically includes all the cancer cases in Gwangju. All the cases during the study period were analyzed by gender, age group and cancer sites. The completeness (mortality/incidence ratio and age-specific incidence curve) and validity (histologic verification, primary site unknown, age unknown and death certificate only) of the cancer registry in Gwangju were analyzed by gender, age group and cancer sites for the 5-year period. Results: The overall cancer incidence was higher in the males than in the females (age-standardized incidence rates (ASR) 299.8 and 172.4 per 100,000, respectively). In males, the most common cancer was stomach (ASR: 65.8), followed by liver (ASR: 50.5), bronchus and lung (ASR: 50.5), colo-rectum (ASR: 26.7), oesophagus (ASR: 10.6), and bladder (ASR: 10.3) in descending order. In females, the most common cancer was stomach (ASR: 26.8), followed by thyroid (ASR: 20.7), breast (ASR: 20.4), cervix uteri (ASR: 14.3), bronchus and lung (ASR: 13.0), liver (ASR: 10.7) and colo-rectum (ASR: 17.2) in descending order. The overall quality (completeness and validity) of the cancer registry was at the in 'good' level. Conclusions: These results will be useful in the overall context of planning and evaluating of cancer control activities in Gwangju.
Background: Cervical cancer is one of the ten most frequent cancers in Turkey. We here examined knowledge about cervical cancer in relation to Papanicolaou (Pap) testing among female primary health care workers in Hatay, a city is located in the south of Turkey. Materials and Methods: The study was completed on 261 women healthcare workers who were or had been sexually active and who accepted to participate to the study. The participants gave verbal informed consent and thereafter questionnaires prepared by the investigators were administered by personal interview. Results: Only 30.3% (n=79) of the participants regularly had a gynecologic examination. While 87.4% (n=228) of the participants reported that they had already heard about the Pap smear test, only 45.2% (n=118) had undergone this test. It was determined that had undergone an average of $1.66{\pm}0.89$ times (1-4) within the last five years. Some 56.0% (n=117) of the participants were well informed about the Pap smear test (p<0,001) and 81.1% (n=63) of the participants who regularly had gynecological examinations (p<0,001) had this test. Conclusions: For the early diagnosis of the cervical cancer, regularly having a Pap smear test is crucial. Healthcare workers should also demonstrate sensitivity about this issue. We think that the importance of the issue should be re-highlighted by organizing in-service training for female primary healthcare workers. Studies are warranted to determine the psychosociological factors that cause individuals to not have the test.
