Development of Multi-Porous Diamond Wheel for Smooth and Mirror Finishing of Die Materials (금형재료의 정밀연삭을 위한 다기공 다이아몬드 숫돌의 개발)

  • Development of diamond wheel with fine grains and multi-pore structures were newely attempted to be studied in this paper. Wheels, that are employed for the smooth and mirrow finishing of die materials such as tungsten carbide alloy using tool and die materials, must have both performances to remove tool marks efficiently and to contact elastically with curved surfaces. Diamond abrasive grains were bonded firmly by a melamine to prevent the decrease of machining efficiency due to grain sinking within the bond materials. Also, highly foamed structures were developed to increase the flexibility of the wheel, and to induce active self-sharpening by increasing contact pressure between the wheel and work sufaces. In this paper, melamine-bonded diamond wheels are trial manufactured, then the forming method of wheels are explained.

  • The nitrogen oxides, NO and NO2, abbreviated usually as NOx, emitted from combustion facilities such as power plants and automobiles are the typical air-pollutants causing acid rain and photochemical smog. In order to solve the NOx-related pollution problems effectively, we need efficient techniques to monitor NOx in the combustion exhausts and in environments. Development of solid-state electrochemical devices for detecting NOx is demonstrated based on various combination of solid electrolytes and auxiliary sensing materials. The object of this research is to develop various sensor performance for solid state amperometric sensor, and to test gas sensor performance manufactured. So we try to present a guidance for developing amperometric gas sensor. We concentrated on development of manufacturing process and performance test.

  • Polyolefins show a very healthy growth rate among commodity polymer resins due to their low feedstock prices, recyclable and environmentally friendly characteristics and easily controllable performances. Capacity investment in polyolefin field is now moving from technology region to consumer region and feedstock region. Therefore, key success factors for polyolefin business in the other region such as Korea are cost reduction, development of highly value-added products and new applications and substitution of PVC, PS, PET and other EPs. To add additional value to commodity polyolefin products, high level of platform technology such as catalyst, process and structure-properties relationship is needed. Progress on polyolefin products has been very closely related to catalyst and process technology. According to this trend, SK Corporation has devoted a lot of research effort into development of new value-added polyolefin products based on the proprietary technology platform.

  • The design of new navigation signals is a key factor in building new satellite navigation systems and/or modernizing existing legacy systems. Navigation signal design involves selecting candidate groups and evaluating and analyzing their signal performances. This process can be easily performed through software simulation especially at the beginning of the development phase. The analytical signal performance analysis software introduced in this study is implemented based on equations between the signal design parameters of Radio Navigation Satellite Service (RNSS) and the navigation signal figures-of-merit (FoMs). Therefore, this study briefly summarizes the RNSS signal design parameters and FoMs before introducing the developed software. After that, we explain the operating sequence of the implemented software including the Graphical User Interface (GUI), and calculate the FoMs of an example scenario to verify the feasibility of the software operations.

  • Recently, as a performance based design concept is introduced, assurance of expected performances on serviceability and safety in the whole span of life is exactly requested. So, quantitative assessments about durability related properties of concrete in early-age long term are come to necessary, Especially in early age, deterioration which affects long-term durability performance can be occurred by hydration heat and shrinkage, so development of reasonable hydration heat model which can simulate early age behavior is necessary. The micor-pore structure formation property also affects shrinkage behavior in early age and carbonations and chloride ion penetration characteristic in long term, So, for the quantitative assessment on durability performance of concrete, modelings of early age concrete based on hydration process and micor-pore structure formation characteristics are important. In this paper, a micromechanics based hydration heat evolution model is adopted and a quantitative model which can simulate micro-pore structure development is also verified with experimental results. The models can be used effectively to simulate the early-age behavior of concrete composed of different mix proportions.

Strain localization and failure load predictions of geosynthetic reinforced soil structures

  • This study illustrates the differences between the elasto-plastic cap model and Lade's model with Cosserat rotation through the analyses of two large-scale geosynthetic-reinforced soil (GRS) retaining wall tests that were brought to failure using a monotonically increasing surcharge pressure. The finite element analyses with Lade's model were able to reasonably simulate the large-scale plane strain laboratory tests. On average, the finite element analyses gave reasonably good agreement with the experimental results in terms of global performances and shear band occurrences. In contrast, the cap model was not able to simulate the development of shear banding in the tests. In both test simulations the cap model predicted failure loads that were substantially less than the measured ones.

  • In the East Sea of Korea, the ocean environments are known to have strong variations in space and time. Their effects are very important factors in sound propagation and sonar performance. We consider the environmental factors such as eddies and thermal fronts affecting underwater sound propagation and target detection performance by sonars. Unfortunately, however, the detailed structure of eddies is usually difficult to understand by using the sea surface temperatures from infrared images alone or a few profiles from the CTD (conductivity, temperature and depth) castings. The temperature fields of eddy and thermal front are simulated with typical patterns of those obtained from several observations. This paper delivers the overviews of environments and acoustic models with their simulation results on sonar performance.

  • This paper presents the development of LED street light lamp which is controled by central command system. This system includes a lamp unit controller, data repeater and command repeater as well as the LED lamps. These devices enable the individual power control and partial on/off control of the LED lamps by the control repeater through full duplex communication line. Also, they have the ability to control the brightness and period of on/off timing by detecting the car's existence. As a result of this development, it is founded that the performances of the system have been satisfied to apply for the actual road test.

  • Initial hull form of 10 G/T and 40 knots class coastal patrol boat is newly developed. The resistance performances are experimentally and numerically investigated by model test and CFD technique. The effect of initial trim and a fin attached at hull side are studied together. Wave patterns are observed to make clear the relation between the performance and the wave characteristics. It can be found that the initial trim plays a role in increasing the resistance performance above a certain velocity, and the CFD technique can be used at the initial design stage of a high-speed planning boats.

  • Interior permanent magnet synchronous motors can be applied to applications requiring wide-speed operation. The current control scheme of an interior permanent magnet synchronous (IPM) motor via feedback linearizing technique is proposed. As the available voltage controlling the armature current is small in transient operations and/or flux-weakening region, the current control performance can be deteriorated. The high performance overmodulation strategy is also proposed to improve the current responses. The control performances are confirmed by simulations.
