Preceding vehicle detection is a crucial issue for driver assistance system as well as for autonomous vehicle guidance function and it has to be performed with high reliability to avoid any potential collision. The vision-based preceded vehicle detection systems are regarded promising for this purpose because they require little infrastructure on a highway. However, the feasibility of these systems in passenger car requires accurate and robust sensing performance. In this paper, an preceded vehicle detection system is developed using stereo vision sensors. This system utilizes feature matching, epipoplar constraint and feature aggregation in order to robustly detect the initial corresponding pairs. After the initial detection, the system executes the tracking algorithm for the preceded vehicles including a leading vehicle. Then, the position parameters of the preceded vehicles or leading vehicles can be obtained. The proposed preceded vehicle detection system is implemented on a passenger car and its performances is verified experimentally.
In this paper, a new speech endpoint detection method in noisy environments for moving robot platforms is proposed. In the conventional method, the endpoint of speech is obtained by applying an edge detection filter that finds abrupt changes in the feature domain. However, since the feature of the frame energy is unstable in such noisy environments, it is difficult to accurately find the endpoint of speech. Therefore, a novel feature extraction method based on the twice-iterated fast fourier transform (TIFFT) and statistical models of speech is proposed. The proposed feature extraction method was applied to an edge detection filter for effective detection of the endpoint of speech. Representative experiments claim that there was a substantial improvement over the conventional method.

Social media enables customers to share their views, opinions and experiences as product reviews. These product reviews facilitate customers in buying quality products. Due to the significance of online reviews, fake reviews, commonly known as spam reviews are generated to mislead the potential customers in decision-making. To cater this issue, review spam detection has become an active research area. Existing studies carried out for review spam detection have exploited feature engineering approach; however limited number of features are considered. This paper proposes a Feature-Centric Model for Review Spam Detection (FMRSD) to detect spam reviews. The proposed model examines a wide range of feature sets including ratings, sentiments, content, and users. The experimentation reveals that the proposed technique outperforms the baseline and provides better results.
The early detection of breast cancer is clearly a key ingredient for reducing breast cancer mortality. Microcalcification is the only visible feature of the DCIS's(ductal carcinoma in situ) which consist 15 ~ 20% of screening-detected breast cancer. Therefore, the analysis of the shapes and distributions of microcalcifications is very significant for the early detection. The automatic detection procedures have b(:on the concern of digital image processing for many years. We proposed here one efficient method which is essentially statistical pattern classification accelerated by one representative feature, correlation coefficient. We compared the results by this additional feature with results by a simple gray level thresholding. The average detection rate was increased from 48% by gray level feature only to 83% by the proposed method The performances were evaluated with TP rates and FP counts, and also with Bayes errors.

With the recent development of deep learning, most computer vision-related tasks are being solved with deep learning-based network technologies such as CNN and RNN. Computer vision tasks such as object detection or object segmentation use intermediate features extracted from the same backbone such as Resnet or FPN for training and inference for object detection and segmentation. In this paper, an experiment was conducted to find out the compression efficiency and the effect of encoding on task inference performance when the features extracted in the intermediate stage of CNN are encoded. The feature map that combines the features of 256 channels into one image and the original image were encoded in HEVC to compare and analyze the inference performance for object detection and segmentation. Since the intermediate feature map encodes the five levels of feature maps (P2 to P6), the image size and resolution are increased compared to the original image. However, when the degree of compression is weakened, the use of feature maps yields similar or better inference results to the inference performance of the original image.

All over the world, people are affected by many chronic diseases and medical practitioners are working hard to find out the symptoms and remedies for the diseases. Many researchers focus on the feature detection of the disease and trying to get a better health recommendation system. It is necessary to detect the features automatically to provide the most relevant solution for the disease. This research gives the framework of Health Recommendation System (HRS) for identification of relevant and non-redundant features in the dataset for prediction and recommendation of diseases. This system consists of three phases such as Pre-processing, Feature Selection and Performance evaluation. It supports for handling of missing and noisy data using the proposed Imputation of missing data and noise detection based Pre-processing algorithm (IMDNDP). The selection of features from the pre-processed dataset is performed by proposed ensemble-based feature selection using an expert's knowledge (EFS-EK). It is very difficult to detect and monitor the diseases manually and also needs the expertise in the field so that process becomes time consuming. Finally, the prediction and recommendation can be done using Support Vector Machine (SVM) and rule-based approaches.

In this paper, a robust visual odometry system has been proposed and implemented in an environment with dynamic illumination. Visual odometry is based on stereo images to estimate the distance to an object. It is very difficult to realize a highly accurate and stable estimation because image quality is highly dependent on the illumination, which is a major disadvantage of visual odometry. Therefore, in order to solve the problem of low performance during the feature detection phase that is caused by illumination variations, it is suggested to determine an optimal threshold value in the image binarization and to use an adaptive threshold value for feature detection. A feature point direction and a magnitude of the motion vector that is not uniform are utilized as the features. The performance of feature detection has been improved by the RANSAC algorithm. As a result, the position of a mobile robot has been estimated using the feature points. The experimental results demonstrated that the proposed approach has superior performance against illumination variations.

Recently, mobile users continuously increase, and mobile applications also increase As mobile applications increase, the mobile users used to store sensitive and private information such as Bank information, location information, ID, password on their mobile devices. Therefore, recent malicious application targeted to mobile device instead of PC environment is increasing. In particular, since the Android is an open platform and includes security vulnerabilities, attackers prefer this environment. This paper analyzes the performance of malware detection system applying linear SVM machine learning classifier to detect Android malware application. This paper also performs feature selection in order to improve detection performance.

Android is now the most popular smartphone platform and remains rapid growth. There are huge number of sensitive privacy information stored in Android devices. Kinds of methods have been proposed to detect Android malicious applications and protect the privacy information. In this work, we focus on extracting the fine-grained features to maximize the information of Android malware detection, and selecting the least joint features to minimize the number of features. Firstly, permissions and APIs, not only from Android permissions and SDK APIs but also from the developer-defined permissions and third-party library APIs, are extracted as features from the decompiled source codes. Secondly, feature selection methods, including information gain (IG), regularization and particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithms, are used to analyze and utilize the correlation between the features to eliminate the redundant data, reduce the feature dimension and mine the useful joint features. Furthermore, regularization and PSO are integrated to create a new joint feature mining method. Experiment results show that the joint feature mining method can utilize the advantages of regularization and PSO, and ensure good performance and efficiency for Android malware detection.
