Investigation on Dynamic Behavior of Formant Information (포만트 정보의 동적 변화특성 조사에 관한 연구)

  • This study reports on the effective way of displaying dynamic formant information on F1-F2 space. Conventional ways of F1-F2 space (different name of vowel triangle or vowel rectangle) have been used for investigating vowel characteristics of a speaker or a language based on statistics of the F1 and F2 values, which were computed by spectral envelope search method. Those methods were dealing mainly with the static information of the formants, not the changes of the formant values (i.e. dynamic information). So a better way of investigating dynamic informations from the formant values of speech signal is suggested so that more convenient and detailed investigation of the dynamic changes can be achieved on F1-F2 space. Suggested method used visualization of static and dynamic information in overlapped way to be able to observe the change of the formant information easily. Finally some examples of the implemented display on some cases of the continuous vowels are shown to prove the usefulness of suggested method.

  • Brake friction materials in railway applications are one of critical elements for acceleration and/or deceleration of vehicle, stop at designated position, and stability of vehicle operation. In this investigation, a comprehensive overview on international standards on brake friction materials, including UIC, JI, and AAR, was conducted to understand the current standards creation trend and collect the related information on brake friction materials with different applications. Moreover, the detailed conditions such as testing conditions and environment, testing items, and materials, were carefully reviewed and compared by each standard. The preliminary results will be used for the creation of Korean railway standards (KRS) on brake shoe materials.

  • The paper describes the results of an experimental investigation of the heat transfer rate on the endwall surface within the plane turbine cascade passage and includes the effect of the heat transfer for the two different boundary layer thicknesses and Reynolds numbers. The limiting streamlines on the endwall surface have been visualized by the oil film method in order to compare with the endwall heat transfer. The hue-capturing method using the termochromatic liquid crystals with great spatial resolution has been used to provide the local distribution of the endwall heat transfer coefficients. Because the detailed contours of the local heat transfer coefficients over the entire endwall can be obtained from the hue-capturing method, it has been possible to obtain information on the endwall heat transfer within the plane turbine cascade passage from these heat transfer contours.

  • The Contour Crafting(CC) process, which has been developed at the University of Southern California, aims at automated construction of whole houses as well as sub-components. For this purpose, new trowel mechanism is basically needed in order to fabricate the true 3D shape. This paper presents our concepts and initial investigation of 3D free form fabrication using the pivoting side trowel. Specifically, the status of research and development of the processand experiments with ceramics materials, and its potential application areas are detailed.

  • A detailed investigation and structure of tested samples are clearly presented. As a reference, $Ge_1Se_1Te_2$/Sb only sample was also investigated. We used compound of Ge-Se-Te material for phase-change cell. Actually, the performance properties have been improved surprisingly then conventional Ge-Sb-Te. However, crystallization time was as long as ever for amorphization time. We conducted this esperiment in order to solve that problem by doping-Sb.

  • In this investigation, various factors affecting manufacturing conductive inks are presented, examined and discussed. The discussion includes inherent difficulties in making conductive inks successful and at the same time offers ways in which these difficulties might be overcome. One of the solutions to overcome such difficulties is to use low melting metals and alloys. This aspect is also detailed.

  • In this study, the magnetic and electronic properties of ${\alpha}-Mn$ have been investigated using the all-electron FLAPW method based on the GGA. The local magnetic moment of Mn atoms are consistent with previously calculated results. Detailed discussion on the structural, magnetic, and electronic properties of ${\alpha}-Mn$ will be given.

  • A numerical solution procedure has been developed to analyze the flow field resulted from the injection of a transverse jet through the divergent flap of a 2DCD nozzle for thrust vector control. The formulation employs the compressible Navier-Stokes equations in conservation law form and a two equation $\kappa-\omega$ turbulence model. Detailed numerical results are presented in this paper for the 2DCD nozzle over a range of secondary to primary injection mass flow ratios and nozzle pressure ratios.

  • As the Korea Railroad (KR) was privatized at the beginning of 2005, the Korean Railway Standards (KRS), which was managed previously by KR, have been managed by the Korean Ministry of Construction and Transportation. According to Railway Safety Law and ordinances, which are for the guarantee of safety in railway applications, the management of KRS including enactment and revision of technical standards for railway vehicle and components, was committed to Korea Railroad Research Institute. In this investigation, the detailed management plan and contents are introduced for the effective management of KRS.
