In this thesis, I tried to compare and analyze the characteristics of the costume worn by leading figures of French movie 'Dangerous Liaison' and Korean movie 'The Scandal'. I compared the costumes they wear with the costumes of 18th century Fran[e and also tried to analyze how the costumes represent the psychological status of the persons in the movie. Since these two movies are based on the same original novel, the major figure's characters, socio-economic status and the situations they faced are similar but the physical background are very different, that is Fran[e and Korea. The analysis of the costume worn by similar characters in the two movies show differences due to the intention of tile producer's. The costumes used in Scandal shows much more use of varied colors to represent the characters of the major roles while Dangerous Liaison more faithfully follows the evidences of the costume used in the period in France. As seen from the result of this analysis, we can deduce that the costumes used in the movie not only have the simple role of clothes but also itforms the image of the figure in the movie representing the social and economic status of the person who wears them. Because of these demands, the designer should posses profound knowledge of history of the costumes of the period as well as the creativity to harmonize them with the atmosphere that the movie intend to appeal.
Industrial design has been need to made a new tool for human with adaptable to situation the age. But, at early America, it is very difficult that role of design settle down and progress than these days. It is not to he easy newly born in industrial design because of rapidly changing the America situation with multi settlers, the Depression and world wars. There was various design change in short period. So we called the step modern 1920 and the streamlined 1930. The study is background of American design by variety cultures & creatures from 1920s to 1930s. Some of Korea design has affected of America cultures at duration of 6.25 war and now. This study has included early culture & industrial life, designer activity, and at the part of rear new invention, industrial design relate to architect, four leading designers Walter Dorwin league, Norman Bel Geddes, Henry Dreyfuss, Raymond Loewy. In present world situation, It is important in all aspect to understand that early process at America industrial design. Early American culture is constructed from the building block of the puritan ethic and is sheathed by liberal mercantilism, today is became one stir it into the common molting pot.

This study is for the enhancement and utilization of future graphic design for T-shirts and deals with the expression styles and features of T-shirt graphic designs that appear in modern fashion. A literature examination about graphic design and T-shirts was performed for the research method and the analysis followed 378 pieces of graphic design featured in four major international collections for females from 2001S/S to 2011S/S. The research results from the expression type of T-shirt graphic design in the modern fashion are as follows. Expression in graphic figure accounts for the largest portion of 40.8% that includes illustration or cartoon characters, personal figure or part of the physical body, object in daily life or landscape pictures, animals and plants, and others. Expression given in text with typography or logo accounted for 27.5%, expression combined with letter/text, graphics and geometric figures accounted for 24.3%, geometrical expression accounted for 7.4%; most of which are given in print. Characteristics found in modern fashion graphic design are as follows. First, role of sort of public relations marketing was accompanied with utilization of brand logo or symbol. Second, visual play was shown in a sense of humor with diverse graphic figures and playful texts, witty layout with graphic motives, and a free design formation. Third, it denoted a front burner issue delivering the message for various current events or arguments via the way of texts, slogans, and symbolic pictures. Fourth, it depicted artistry through the self-expressive creation of the designer.

This study analyzes the Asian, African and Latin American cultural hybrids in modem fashion, and offers a direction for desirable cultural hybrids in modem fashion. First, the cultural hybrids have been considered in two aspect: global hybrids and structural hybrids. Second, the trends of Asian, African and Latin American cultural hybrids have been interpreted differently depending on the cultural backgrounds of each area. However, the cultural hybrid representing the change of tradition in Asia, Africa and Latin America is a common trend, and is used to describe the social changes. Third, this study examines the global hybrid trend in modem fashion based on the hybrid trend of Asian, African and Latin American culture found in the four major collections from 2000 S/S to 2005 F/W. Until recently, the exotic images have been determined in the viewpoint of Western world, and utilization by the world-renowned designers in the four major collections plays the major role in converting the regional cultural elements into global ones. Fourth, this study also examines the structural hybrids in modem fashion based on the hybrid trend found in Asian, African and Latin American designer collections between 2000 S/S and 2005 F/W. The works which are connected to the world trend, but are also rooted from the cultural and regional traditions demonstrate the globalization of the Asian, African and Latin American fashion. Fashion is a messenger of a culture, and its importance as a symbol of a cultural trend is growing.

This study locates typical Korean fashion images in domestic and foreign fashion journals to advance Korea's international image in contemporary global fashion markets. The investigation of the frequency of articles and their types (so as to inquire into interest in Korean fashion in the global fashion markets) showed that for the appearance frequency of domestic articles studied, a good number of articles were published in the first half of 2008 and in 2009. In the case of foreign articles, the number of them increased from the second half of 2008 and the majority of articles were shown in the first half of 2010. Second, the investigation of the appearance features by article type studied in order to understand how Korean fashion played a role in the world's markets. The majority of articles were related to fashion brands that entered Chinese market in fashion brand articles in the case of domestic articles; however, many foreign articles introduced designers that participated in global fashion collections in Paris and New York. Third, as a result of analyzing typical key words by article type in order to find key words which could enhance Korea's fashion national image representing, we could confirm that 'Korean designers' can be a typical key words to represent Korean fashion. The key word most exposed in both domestic and foreign articles was 'designer Lie Sang Bong' and only his articles contained the content about influential Korean design materials.
The aim of this study is to shed light on essentials of Suprematist artists focusing on Malevich and their works in relation to modem design, and to examine their roles in the modem design industry compared to those of modem designers. The study obtains the following result on Suprematist artists and their works in Russian avant-garde in terms of modem design. Firstly, Suprematist artists had a great deal of interest in practical design although it seemed Suprematist were replaced by utilitarianism in avant-garde during the Russian revolution. Secondly, Suprematist artists were the first artists to bring the birth of modem design trends by applying their art in geometric forms to clothing and fabric design as well as ornaments and handicraft. Thirdly, the artists' attempt to work with needle workers made it possible to set achievements in design and modem decorative art exhibitions in various fields of art-life. As for the role of modem designers, Suprematist artists including Malevich have significant meanings as follows: Firstly, Malevich was a creative, future-oriented artistic designer who realized zaum of painting on the stage and created suprematistic mode in a cosmic point of view in order to agree with the environment. Secondly, Suprematist artists knew the importance of works that were produced by craftsmen and worked together with them. Therefore, the designers could maintain fabric decoration in difficult conditions knowing the importance of the high value-added industry. Thirdly, they were artists in real life who embodied the ideas and theories of Suprematist in sample works by recognizing the need of changes in life environment: they planned to set a new visual world in art but did not confine the idea only to painting.

The purpose of this study is to look for an environmental design method based on open narrative structure, and to promote various experiences and interpretations of space through user's engagements. That is to say, the designer does not lead specific events through separate Boning but using the continuous open composition users are provided with margins for their imaginations. Spatial formulation through open narrative structure gives us various thoughts and it plays an important role in making a sequential space. Like an abstract painting, it is a complex story making or arranging a montage of images containing stories that elicit the reader's engagement through diverse interpretations. Like this, open composition exists in an ambiguous state and it is possible to interpret unfinished‘evolving work’within it. Utilizing open narrative structure, this study attempts to apply the idea of sequencing and open composition in the case of designing Arirang Culture Park. Open composition should induce various engagements by users and could be a medium which organically connects nature, culture and people. The spatial strategies of‘ambiguity’ and‘transparency’are like a bundle of complex and heterogeneous factors. Finally, the study focuses on the ‘integration’of the main ideas that compose multilayered space. ‘Voidness’and‘thickening’are also used for spatial strategies in open narrative structure. As alternative plans for undecided programs of the space, the voidness can be a strategic design program with flexibility about changes of futures. Also, thickening can be a strategic design program for functional reinforcement of the space, for the dramatic effects and for the generation of incidental events. Although both voidness and thickening seem paradoxical, we can see they are similar in the way that both focus on various spatial uses and by how they do not function as one-to-one correspondence, but as multiple correspondences. Therefore, open narrative structure is possible to apply in designing space and it can be an alternative design strategy for inducing multiple interpretations of space.
The change towards meeting diverse customer needs has started to affect the hotel industry as well. Design hotels emerged as customers demanded differentiated lodging experiences they could not fulfill at franchise hotels which were uniform in style everywhere in the world. Design hotels are meant to provide a new concept of space through unique design sensibility and work of designers, which highlighted the role of interior design. This research analyzes the characteristics of indoor space expressed in design hotel common spaces by the French designer Andree Putman, also known as the founder of boutique hotels and the concept of design hotels. As the original founder of the concept of design hotels, Putman's scope of work stretches wide, from interior design to product design. She is also one of the few French designers with a modernist inclination. The research runs a review on previous literature, characteristics of design hotels according to design tendency, and the association with characteristics of indoor space designed by Andree Putman, followed by case analyses extracted by analyses on design characteristics of common spaces she has designed. The analysis reveals that she creates comfortable yet elegant space, using contrast and fusion arising from negotiation of design styles to interpret space, the sense of spatial balance and understated expression of order through symmetrical structures, diverse creation of space through geometric structuring, highlighting indoor space by utilizing lights as objects, and the heterogeneous harmony achieved by contrasting juxtaposition, and understated formativeness. It is expected that study results would be utilized as methods of new designs of interior space in design hotels.

The rapid growth of the Korean fashion industry has contributed greatly to the establishment of various fashion associations that have appeared since the 1960s. Seoul Fashion Week celebrated its 20th anniversary; there is now a crucial opportunity for the role of Korean fashion associations to the world's top five fashion collections. This study examines and compares the various roles of Korean fashion associations and the fashion associations of France, Italy, USA, and UK. Based on the comparison results, suggestions for the roles of Korean fashion associations are as follows. The following three roles are important in both Korean and foreign associations: stable operation of collections, the creation of various funds to support fashion designers, and foster new designers through linkage with the education programs for textiles and design. Mutual cooperation among various associations is essential to achieve future goals. The specific activities of foreign associations are highly suggestive for direction. In addition to the pursuit of members' rights, it is also desirable to conduct various social activities. It is necessary to create various events that ordinary citizens and students can enjoy in addition to achieving the goal of promoting and selling products at the Seoul Fashion Week. In order to overcome various difficult situations facing Korea and to prepare for a great leap forward for the fashion industry, Korean fashion associations should spare no effort to overcome mutually conflicting interests and understand other perspectives from a macro perspective.
The purpose of this study is to present a method of preparing for a more enduring built environment, being fully aware that, in consideration of time flowing from past to present, there is no ardlitecture in creation that is not abandoned. Efforts were made to find the problem solutions in relation to the hierardlial structure, evolvement and adaptation of living beings. The process of study was as follows, ·The built environment's affordance to human beings and the designer's role was explained. ·Having an understanding of the necessity of user minded planning, the architectural adaptation of the multi-layered hierarchy system of holon theory and adoption of time conception into architectural space were examined to explain that the importance in ardlitecture should be placed in transition, not in perfection. ·The design of Parc de La Villette by Bernard Tsdlumi was analysed from the above viewpoint. Having a practical case analysed, this study is expected to offer a basic information for use in case of visual presentation of a theoretical viewpoint.
