  • School Crime Prevention Throgh Environmental Design (CPTED) is in the process of building a design guide through a lot of research. However, it is common practice to conduct consulting through existing cases and utilize internal self-evaluation through similar projects, as the self-evaluation criteria are not open to public or unlike other certifications. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to contribute to the development of a more quantitative and objective practical manual by analyzing the evaluation elements of school crime prevention environment design provided by guidelines and guidelines of various organizations and local autonomous bodies involved in school design. As a result of quantifying the school facilities CPTED indicators so far and incorporating the current guidelines, 'Surveillance and access control' of 'Entrance space and parking space' is found to be main. If the various indicators presented above are applied in consideration of the specificity of the school facilities in the application of the school CPTED technique, in addition to the CPTED for physically preventing offenses committed by outsiders, it can be expected to prevent violence among students or social crimes in school education.

  • This paper presents the influence of various flexural strengthening design criteria specified by three important design guidelines (ACI440, TR55, FIB14) on the resulting strength, ductility and conservativeness of FRP strengthened RC elements. Various generalised mathematical relations in non-dimensional form are presented that can be employed to develop design aids for the FRP-strengthening process. A design methodology is prescribed based on these equations enabling the designer to optimally and intuitively incorporate sufficient ductility while designing for strength. In order to better interpret conservativeness within design codes, four distinct levels of embedded conservativeness are identified, which cover the entire range of sources of conservativeness. Finally, a detailed parametric study is presented, using the proposed design equations and methodology, to determine the influence of each of these four levels of conservativeness on final design solutions. Specific criteria that are useful while calibrating design guidelines are also presented.

  • A performance-based seismic design method for reinforced concrete building structures being developed in Japan is outlined. Technical and scientific background of the performance-based design philosophy as well as recently developed seismic design guidelines are is presented, in which maximum displacement response to design earthquake motion is used as the limit-state design criteria. A method of estimating dynamic response displacement of the structures based on static nonlinear analysis is described. A theoretical estimation of nonlinear dynamic response considering the characteristics of energy input to the system is described in detail, which may be used as the standard method in the new performance-based code. A desing philosophy not only satisfying the criteria but also evaluating seismic capacity of the structures is also introduced.

  • Aesthetic design guidelines of bridges were developed in many countries. As iconic structures, bridges need to be attractive and durable as they serve many generations. In this paper, a new design process of concrete structures considering 3D shapes and texture was proposed. The 3D design needs to consider function, economy, advanced technology, tradition and local culture. 3D printers enable the combination of artistic design and engineering design for concrete structures. Parametric modeling with iconic design was utilized to produce 3D formworks. As a pilot project, a railway bridge girder was designed and the proposed technologies were applied. Detail requirements to improve constructability and quality of concrete surfaces were derived. From the pilot applications, design guidelines were suggested.

  • This study was intended to suggest the design guidelines of digital home on the basis of digital-related human behavior. In order to achieve this, what and how often internet was used in the home, how living pattern and space usage was changing according to digitalization were examined and lastly, the design guidelines of digital home based on these findings were suggested. The subjects were 400 housewives who lived In 85m'-sized housing unit of the new apartment complex in Busan. They were average age of 38 and their eldest children were in the stage of elementary schooling or preschooling. Many of them had relatively high educational level and middle income level. The results of the study were as follows; 1) The respondents used internet more frequently for information searching, children's education, and Internet shopping. Therefore, it would be desirable to divide zoning of housing unit into space for routine activities, space for working, and for cultural activities. 2) Digitalization changed human living pattern like follows; it reduced time of shopping, information searching, banking, and going out. Also, it increased time of spending alone, watching movie, and playing game. Therefore, digital home should be designed to facilitate social Interaction between family members, cultural and recreational activities, and indoor or outdoor exercise within each housing unit or in apartment complex.

  • This paper aims to investigate the effects of cable rupture on the dynamic responses of concrete cable-stayed bridges in comparison with those of steel composite ones. It examines an adequate analysis method for simulating cable rupture using a time history function and evaluates the design guidelines for dynamic amplification factor (DAF). The computed DAFs from a concrete cable-stayed bridge are compared with those from a steel composite one based on the design guideline. As a conclusion, the current design guidelines for DAF may be reliable in overall but show some unstable cases despite satisfying the design guidelines, especially for concrete cable-stayed bridges.

  • Except the time when relics of a museum are exhibited or loaned to the public, they are stored in a storage. In addition, it is common view that collections are exhibited a few of total stored collections in a museum. Therefore, the environmental condition of a storage is an important factor. Hereby, the purpose of this study is to suggest the design guidelines of a storage for conservation of relics in a museum. The results from this study are as follows briefly. First, location of storages has to be located and centralized above ground against preservation environment and additional renovation. Second, for storage size, It is reasonable to secure long-term experimental data after planning about 20% of whole section in present domestic situation. Third, in order to prevent environmental deterioration due to short storage floor space, adequate storage height has to be secured against a mezzanine deck and spare storages need to be planned. Where a mezzanine deck is designed, detailed plans have to be supported for equal micro climate in a storage. Fourth, in respect of environmental control of storages, finish materials with adjustment ability on relative humidity have to be used after the system is installed jointly direct and indirect way by air chamber, considering domestic condition for management of intermittent ventilation.
