  • Multiple scale modeling has been applied to predict defect shape change during the wire rod rolling process. The size difference between bloom and defect prevent using usual FEM approaches due to the enormous number of elements required to depict the defect. The newly developed multiple scale model can visualize defect shape changes during the multi stands rolling process. The defect positioned at the top and side of bloom are smoothed out but the one at the middle evolved as folding or remained as crack. This approach can be used for defect control with roll shape design and initial bloom shape.

  • Flow defect of a piston-pin for automobile parts is investigated in this study. In cold forging of piston-pin Lapping defect a kind of flow defect appears by the dead metal zone. This appearance evidently happens in products with a thin piercing thickness for the dimension accuracy and the decrease of material loss. The best method that can prevent flow defect is removing dead metal zone. The finite element simulations are applied to analyze the flow defect. This study proposed processes for preventing flow defect by removing dead metal zone. Then the results are compared with the experiments for verification. These FE simulation results are in good agreement with the experimental ones.

  • 본 연구는 운용중인 항공기의 가스터빈엔진을 유전 알고리즘을 이용한 실시간 결함진단을 통해 엔진 운용의 안정성과 신뢰성을 확보하는 것이 목적이다. 대상엔진인 터보샤프트엔진의 구성품 중 성능 저하는 압축기, 가스발생기 터빈, 동력 터빈 중 한 구성품에서만 발생한다고 가정하였다. 설계점에 비해 탈 설계영역에서의 학습 데이터는 약 200배 이상으로 증가하였으며, 따라서 요구 수렴도를 만족시키기 위한 방대한 학습시간이 요구된다. 진단오차를 만족시키고 학습시간을 단축시키기 위해 최적분할을 사용하였고 그 결과, 오차범위 5% 이내로 진단됨을 확인하였다.

The Impact of Delay Optimization on Delay fault Testing Quality

  • In delay-optimized designs, timing failures due to manufacturing delay defects are more likely to occur because the average timing slacks of paths decrease and the system becomes more sensitive to smaller delay defect sizes. In this paper, the impact of delay optimized logic circuits on delay fault testing will be discussed and compared to the case for non-optimized designs. First, we provide a timing optimization procedure and show that the resultant density function of path delays is a delta function. Next we also discuss the impact of timing optimization on the yield of a manufacturing process and the defect level for delay faults. Finally, we will give some recommendations on the determination of the system clock time so that the delay-optimized design will have the same manufacturing yield as the non-optimized design and on the determination of delay fault coverage in the delay-optimized design in order to have the same defect-level for delay faults as the non-optimized design, while the system clock time is the same for both designs.

유한요소해석을 이용한 공형 압연에서의 표면흠 발생 연구 (A Study of Surface Defect Initiation in Groove Rolling Using Finite Element Analysis)

  • The groove rolling is a process that transforms the bloom or billet into a shape with circular section through a series of rolling. Inhibition of surface defect generation in groove rolling is a matter of great importance and therefore many research groups proposed a lot of models to find the location of surface defect initiation. In this study, we propose a model for maximum shear stress ratio over equivalent strain to catch the location of surface defect onset. This model is coupled with element removing method and applied to box groove rolling of POSCO No. 3 Rod Mill. Results show that proposed model in this study can find the location of surface defect initiation during groove rolling when finite element analysis results is compared with experiments. The proposed criterion has been applied successfully to design roll grooves which inhibits the generation of surface defect.

  • Internal and external defects of an inner pulley for automobile air conditioner are investigated in this study. Inner pulley is a part of compressor clutch assembly of automobile air conditioner. In cold forging of inner pulley, the design requirement are to keep the same height of the inner rib and outer one and to make uniform distribution of hardness in the forged product. At the end of the forging of inner pulley, the piping defect as an external defect begins to form at the back center of the billet. The internal crack as an internal defect also occur at the adiabatic shear band which usually has maximum ductile fracture value. It is important to predict when the internal and external defects occur during the deformation process, in order to minimize the amount of discard that is generated. The finite element simulations are applied to analyze the defects. The validity of the computational results are examined by experiments. These computational results are in good agreement with the experimental ones.

적외선열화상 카메라를 이용한 원전 소구경 감육배관의 결함 검출 (Application Defects Detection in the Small-Bore Pipe Using Infrared Thermography Technique)

  • 선행 연구에서 적외선열화상기법을 이용하여 원전 배관의 감육 결함을 측정하기 위하여, 4 inch 배관에 인공결함을 가공하여 이에 대한 결함 검출을 도출하였다. 본 논문에서는 선행연구에서 도출된 조건을 이용하여 원전 소구경 배관의 결함 검출 조건에 관한 연구를 수행하였다. 결함의 가공은 감육 길이, 원주방향 각도, 감육 깊이를 변화시켜서 결함 조건을 가공하였다. 사용된 장비는 IR camera와 1 kW용량의 halogen lamp 2개를 사용하였으며, halogen lamp와 대상 배관과의 거리를 1 m, 1.5 m, 2 m 순으로 변화시켜 실험을 수행하였다. 실험 결과의 분석을 위하여 온도분포데이터를 확보하고, 이를 분석하여 결함 길이를 측정하였다. 4 inch 배관의 인공결함은 2 m에서 측정 결과의 신뢰도가 높았으나, 소구경 배관은 1.5 m에서 결함이 명확하게 검출되었다.

SW-FMEA 기반의 결함 예방 모델 (A Defect Prevention Model based on SW-FMEA)

  • 성공적인 소프트웨어 개발은 QCD에 의해 결정되며, 그 중 Quality는 Cost와 Delivery를 결정하는 핵심요소이기도 하다. 그리고 소프트웨어의 규모와 복잡도가 증가함에 따라 quality의 조기 확보의 중요성이 점차 커지고 있다. 이러한 관점에서 개발 후 결함을 찾아내고 수정하는 것보다 결함예방을 위해 더 많은 노력을 기울여야 할 것이다. 결함 예방을 위해서는 peer review, testing과 같은 결함 식별활동과 함께 기존에 발생된 defect 에 대한 분석을 통해 발생 가능한 결함의 주업을 차단하는 활동이 필요하며, 이를 위해 기존의 품질 데이타의 조직화 및 활용이 필요하다. 소프트웨어의 품질 예방을 위한 방법으로 system safety 확보를 위해 사용되고 있는 FMEA를 활용할 수 있다. SW-FMEA(Software Fault Mode Effect Analysis)는 예측을 통해 결함을 예방하는 방법으로, 기존에는 요구사항 분석 및 설계 시 많이 활용되어 왔다 이러한 SW-FMEA는 개발 활동을 통해 측정되는 정보를 활용하여, 분석, 설계, 나아가 peer review나 testing 둥 개발 및 관리 활동에 적용하여 결함예방 (defect prevention) 의 수단으로 활용 할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 기존에 시스템 분석, 설계에 focusing된 SW-FMEA를 변형하여 product 결합뿐 아니라, 개발과정 중 발생할 수 있는 fault를 줄일 수 있는 결함 예방 model을 제안한다.

Optimum Design of a Non-Destructive Testing System to Maximize Magnetic Flux Leakage

  • This paper describes the design method of a magnetic system to maximize the magnetic flux leakage (MFL) in a non-destructive testing (NDT) system. The defect signals in a MFL type NDT system mainly depend on the change of the magnetic leakage flux in the region of a defect. The characteristics of the B-H curves are analysed and a design method to define the operating point on B-H curves for maximum leakage is performed. The computed MFL signal by a nonlinear finite element method is verified by measurement using Hall sensors mounted on the 6 legs PIG, the traveling detector unit in gas pipe, in an 8 inch test tube with defects. The rhombic defects could be successfully identified from the defect signals.
