The progress of silicon technology enables to implement a highly complex digital system on a given chip area. However, even the modern design environment is not so efficient to catch up with the progress of process technology. Design reuse is a promising approach to designing such a complex system in an efficient way. However, the rigidness and inflexibility of a model has been an obstacle to design reuse. This paper proposes a high-level model management methodology by introducing attributed AND-OR graph(AOG), a (formal semantics for representing the possible structure of a model. Using the formalism enables a designer to extract, extend and reuse the pre-modeled and pre-verified design. A complete process of constructing a cache operational model, extending the model and extracting executable models is exemplified to show effectiveness of the proposed framework.
The consideration of constructability issues at the design stage can lead to improved construction performance with smooth project delivery and savings in time and money. Empirical studies demonstrate the value obtained by integrating construction knowledge with the building design process, and its benefits for owners, contractors and designers. However, it is still a challenge to implement the concept into current design practice. There is a need for a decision support tool to aid designers in reviewing their design constructability, deploying current technological tools, such as BIM. Such tools are beneficial at the conceptual design stage when there is a room to improve the design significantly with less incurred cost. This research investigates how current process- and object-oriented models can be used to assess design constructability. It proposes a BIM-based model using embedded information within the design environment to conduct the assessment. The modelling framework is demonstrated in four key parts; namely, the conceptual design model, the constructability assessment model, the assessment process model and the decision-making phase. Each is associated with a set of components and functions that contribute towards the targeted constructability assessment outcomes. The proposed framework is the first to combine a numerical assessment system and a rule-based system, allowing for both quantitative and qualitative approaches. The modelling framework and its implementation through a prototype are described in this paper. It is believed that this framework is the first to enable users to transfer their construction knowledge and experience directly into a design platform linked to BIM models. The assessment criteria can be customised by the users who can reflect their own constructability preferences into various specialised profiles that can be added to the constructability assessment model. It also allows for the integration of the assessment process with the design phase, facilitating the optimisation of constructability performance from the early design stage.
Developing two process models to simulate wastewater treatment process is needed to draw a comparison between measured BOD data and estimated process model data: a mathematical model based on the process mass-balance and an ANN (artificial neural network) model. Those two types of simulator can fit well in terms of effluent BOD data, which models are formulated based on the distinctive five parameters: influent flow rate, effluent flow rate, influent BOD concentration, biomass concentration, and returned sludge percentage. The structuralized mass-balance model and ANN modeI with seasonal periods can estimate data set more precisely, and changing optimization algorithm for the penalty could be a useful option to tune up the process behavior estimations. An complex model such as ANN model coupled with mass-balance equation will be required to simulate process dynamics more accurately.

In the lower arm design process, a tolerance optimization of the variance of design variables should be preceded before manufacturing process, since it is very cost-effective compared to a strict management of tolerance of products. In this study, a design of experiment (DOE) based on response surface model (RSM) was carried out to find optimized design variables of the lower arm, which can meet a given requirement of probability constraint for the process capability index (Cpk) of the weight and maximum stress. Then, the design space was explored by using the central composite design method, in which the 2nd order Taylor expansion was applied to predict a standard deviation of the responses. The optimal solutions satisfying the probability constraint of the Cpk were found by considering both of the mean value and the standard deviation of the design variables.

When managers estimate exact construction cost at early stage and design phase, they can reduce construction cost in a more efficient way than to predict at construction stage. But, the current of public construction cost estimation and management is concentrated almost after detailed design phase. Therefore, construction cost management in design development phase to generally use approximate estimating is not correct. Also, the existing construction cost used the method that estimated by gross floor area-based cost estimates at design development phase. So, it is difficult to show the specific amount of materials and basis about the estimated cost of the construction. This study derived problems and limits of construction management at design development phase in case of public office building project through review of literature and current survey, and suggested estimating process model process of structural construction cost go improve these matters.

Design is an act based on multidisciplinary information. The involvement of various stakeholders makes it difficult to process, plan, and integrate. Iteration is frequent in most of the engineering design and development projects including construction. Design iterations cause rework, and extra efforts are required to get the optimal sequence and to manage the projects. The simple project management techniques are insufficient to fulfill the requirements of integrated design. This paper entails two things: design structure matrix and design parameters' information based model. The emphasis has been given to optimal sequence and crucial iteration using design structure matrix analysis technique. The design projects have been studied using survey data from industry. The optimal sequence and crucial iterations results have been utilized for proposed model. Model integrates two things: information about produced- required key design parameters and information of design changes during the design process. It will help to get familiar with Design management in order to fulfill contemporary needs.
This study focuses on a consumer-based design process that overcomes practical drawbacks of the previously used design process. On the contrary of the existing method of attracting design attributes by designers' own insights, it present the PRETREE model that attracts the important design attributes of the products based on consumer preferences. The PRETREE model has the advantage that it does not require identifying design attributes a priori. For the wire-wireless telephones, this study presents the identifying process the important design attributes empirically using PRETREE Model. The PRETREE Model has been widely used in the fields of psychology, consumer science, economics and business administration. It might also be useful in the design field because it can identify the important design attributes objectively without designers' own insights.
This paper studied the applicable case study on the BIM, based on a structural design process for office buildings. The design process and the applicable system are provided from the results of the research project on the system development of a virtual construction. The case study evaluated the work productivity and economic application of the process and the developed system. The study mainly takes steel structures into account. By using the structural analysis model and the basic design documents, it is able to create the basic construction model and the construction structural model. Likewise, the integrated model is built by IFC from the finished construction structural model. It checked the interoperability of the information among the various BIM design tools. The work environment was efficiently improved by establishing the BIM process, and work productivity could be increased with the help of the modeling automation for connections at the construction design stage.

Recent engineering process requires fast development and manufacturing of the products. This paper mainly discusses the process of rapid product development (RPD) from the reverse engineering to the optimal design. A laser scanning system scans a product and the efficient data processing method reduces the scanned point data. The reduced (scanned) points model is transformed to a finite element model without the construction of a CAD model. Since CAD modeling is a time-consuming work, skipping this step can save much time. This FE model is updated from the result based on the structural characteristics from modal test of the real model. For FE model updating, Response Surface Method is adopted. Finally, the updated FE model is optimized using the reliability-based topology optimization, which is developed recently. All these processes are applied to the design of an upper part model of a cellular phone.
