Analysis of Revised Helicopter Crashworthiness Criteria (개정 헬리콥터 내추락성 설계기준 분석)

  • There has been a lot of discussion to revise military helicopter crashworthiness design criteria. In this paper, newly revised crashworthiness criteria is analyzed centering around the Crashworthiness Index which is the core content of revised criteria. The Crashworthiness Index(CI) was conceived as an adequate method to quantify the crashworthiness capabilities of a rotorcraft design. The index can rate how well a new or derivative design complies with design requirements. The CI rating is made up of seven assessment areas. While the Basic Airframe Crashworthiness(BAC) area tends to be an objective calculation, other areas of the CI tend to be more subjective. Therefore, in this paper, detail CI calculation process for the BAC area is analyzed to inspect the effectiveness of revised criteria.

Structural Optimization of Active Vehicle Suspension Systems (능동형 차량 현가장치의 성능 향상을 위한 구조 최적화)

  • This paper presents a method for the simultaneous optimal design of structural and control systems. Sensitivities of performance index with respect to structural design variables are analyzed. The structural design variables are optimized to minimize the performance index by use of conjugate gradient method. The method is applied to a half model of an active vehicle suspension system with elastic body moving on a randomly profiled road. The suspension control force of an optimally controlled system in the presence of measurement errors are calculated by use of linear quadratic Gaussian control theory and Kalman filter theory. The performance index contains ride comfort, road holding and working space of suspension. The structural design variables taken are stiffness, daming properties and the position of the suspension system. The random road profile considered as colored noise is shaped from white noise by use of shaping filter. The performance of an optimal simultaneous structure/control system is compared with that of an optimal controlled system.

Design and Performance Analysis of Ring Stator for Crude Oil Carriers (원유운반선용 Ring Stator 설계 및 성능 연구)

  • The International Maritime Organization has developed the Energy Efficiency Design Index, an index related to carbon dioxide emissions, to enforce regulations on newly built ships. In this study, a new type of energy-saving device called the ring stator was used for 158k crude oil carriers, whose hull form was developed as a very thin after-body hull to reduce the resistance by delaying separation. The Energy-Saving Device (ESD) particularly involving the duct, is not adapted to the thin-after body hull form-like container ship. This new ring stator was developed considering these characteristics. A parametric study was conducted through Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis using the Star-CCM+ program, and approximately 3.4 % improvement in propulsion efficiency was achieved. Further optimization investigations and experimental studies should be conducted in the future.

  • This paper describes the design of sample of the survey on the trend of house prices in city areas. The purpose of this research is to increase the precision of house price index in 39 cities and to provide with an accurate house price indes. The sample is selected in the stratified two stage sampling. In chapter 2, review and discussions are given on the sample design now in use. In chapter 3, we describe the sample size and the stratification, the house price index and error, and the substitution of sample. Finally we consider on problems of the sample design and some alternatives to solve them.

  • This study proposes a value based service design (VBSD) approach using Kano's model and QFD. Key quality factors and key cost factors are identified, evaluated and then incorporated to produce customer value index (CVI) and provider value index (PVI) which are together used to determine the four value strategy zones. Each value strategy zone suggests its own appropriate service development strategy based on its corresponding CVI and PVI characteristics such as maintaining current service, reducing costs, raising quality or eliminating/creating services. A camping car service design case is applied to this study, which shows the practical contribution of this VBSD approach.

  • This study suggests a structural design process for the upper control arm installed at a vehicle. Static strength and durability are the most important responses in the structural design of a control arm. This study considers the static strength in the optimization process. The inertia relief method for FE analysis is utilized to simulate the static loading conditions. According to the classification of structural optimization, the structural design of a control arm is included in the category of shape optimization. In this study, the metamodel technique using the kriging method is adopted to obtain the minimum weight satisfying the strength constraint. Then, the final design is suggested by considering the durability criteria. The durability assessment is obtained by the index of fatigue durability called the SWT (Smith-Watson-Topper) index. The final optimum shape has been proposed by trial and error method.

  • This study purposed realization and a phase reduction of school building $CO_2$ emissions. Accordingly selected standard school buildings and evaluated life cycle environmental load($CO_2$). This study proposed Green building technology which separated design sector, energy sector, afforestation sector for carbon-neutral city school buildings realization of M-city. As a result, elementary, middle and high schools of M-city built in the year 2013 were required that design sector was Energy Performance Index(EPI) 75 point and energy sector was solar installations more than 25% of the power usage, Solar systems installed more than 10% of total gas consumption and the area of afforesting more than 35% of the ecological area to achieve 30% $CO_2$ reduction compared to the Respectively standard school buildings.

  • A reliability-based optimization method for electromagnetic design is presented to take uncertainties of design parameters into account. The method can provide an optimal design satisfying a specified confidence level in the presence of uncertain parameters. To achieve the goal, the reliability index approach based on the firstorder reliability method is adopted to deal with probabilistic constraint functions and a double-loop optimization algorithm is implemented to obtain an optimum. The proposed method is applied to the TEAM Workshop Problem 22 and its accuracy and efficiency is verified with reference of Monte Carlo simulation results.

  • This paper presents a modified QIM-JPEG2000 steganography which improves the previous JPEG2000 steganography using quantization index modulation (QIM). Post-embedding changes in file size and PSNR by the modified QIM-JPEG2000 are smaller than those by the previous QIM-JPEG2000. Steganalysis experiments to determine whether messages are embedded in given JPEG2000 images show that the modified QIM-JPEG2000 is more secure than the previous QIMJPEG2000.

  • Probabilistic structural design optimization, which is characterized by the so-called probabilistic. constraints which introduce permissible probability of violation, is preferred to deterministic design optimization since unpredictable inherent uncertainties and randomness in structural and environmental properties are to be taken quantitatively into account by probabilistic design optimization. In this paper, the well-known reliability index based MPFP(Most Probable Failure Point) search approach and the newly introduced target performance measure based MPTP(Minimum Performance Target Point) search approach are summarized and compared. The present comparison focuses on the number of iterations required for the estimation of probabilistic constraints and a technique for improvement which removes exhaustive iterations is presented as well. A 10 bar truss problem is examined for this.
