Purpose - Strategic causes for the failure include unrealistic growth, overexpansion, unfamiliar new markets, volume obsession, unrealistic promises and poor project selection. Organizational causes are insufficient capital and profits, lack of business knowledge, poor financial management, poor sales skills, inadequate marketing, poor leadership, poor leadership transfer, project losses, poor field performance and owner bankruptcy. Uncontrollable causes include industry and economic weakness and banking and surety changes. While helpful, the list provides insufficient clarity regarding the causal roots of failure. Research design, data and methodology - The research framework to organize the information involved with many of the recent and large failures in the industry. Results - This research then identified five dominant root causes - excessive egoism, poor strategic leadership, too much change, loss of discipline and inadequate capitalization. Conclusion - Finally, additional input from external forces may accelerate the firm's pace to failure. It is important on the development of diagnostic tools that are based on this model and that will provide new ways to assess a conglomerate's level of risk for incurring a financial crisis.
This research paper investigates available options for implementing clean development mechanism (CDM) project in Sarawak state, Malaysia. To investigate economic feasibility, data was collected using survey and field research methods. Also, economic analysis was estimated using net present value (NPV), internal rate of return (IRR) and payback period (PBP) during the 30 years CDM: afforestation and reforestation periods. The result of economic analysis indicated that, the payback period was estimated at 9 years with 18 percent of internal rate of return (IRR). This study also highlighted that CDM biomass supply project have a lot of challenges due to the reduction and exclusion of bio-Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF), supply and demand scenario, and impact of restriction of illegal logging in Malaysia. This study results demonstrate the methodology and guideline for future CDM investment and projects.

The Human Sensibility Measurement Technology, the engineering discipline that translate the imagination and good impression of human being into a physical factor for relevant product, is important to improve the quality of industrial products. This dissertation is aimed at measuring and evaluating the human sensibility for texture I presented the image scale in expectation of applying it to the production and choice of goods fitting into one's sensibility and to the coordination of goods which have similar images.
In this paper, we design the Sorting-Banyan network with an efficient buffer and sorting management schema that makes switch be capable of supporting delay sensitive as well as loss sensitive. The proposed switching network is remodeled that based on Batcher-banyan network that have eight input and output ports The structure of designed switching network is constructed of modified banyan network with 2-way routing paths and two plane sorting networks. we have analysed the maximum throughput of the switch, under the uniform random traffic load, the FIFO discipline has increased by about 11% when we compare the switching system with the input buffering system.
This paper is a study of Le Corbusier's trace regulateur of the 1920s, particularly its role in the design of the Villas La Roche-Jeanneret and Stein-de Monzie. It proceeds on the basis of the following three themes: first, the relation between the regulating line and the dom-ino frame; second, its status as a proportional device based not on a module system but one that defines relations; third, its function as an essential practical device in the design process. In the Villa La Roche-Jeanneret, the embedded horizontal planes of the dom-ino frame were constant, but the vortical lines of the columns were altered according to the changes in plan. Initially, a left-hand bay window formed a symmetry with the right-hand bay window, the only constant in the design process. With subsequent changes, mullion sections of the horizontal window and roof elements came to provide the reference points for the regulating line. Eventually, a regulating line different from the one that controlled the bay window and the elongated volume came to control the entrance hall of Villa La Roche, resulting in three different kinds of regulating lines in the final version. In contrast to the Villa La Roche-Jeanneret, a singular and consistent regulation line was anticipated in the earliest design stages of the Villa Stein-de Monzie. The repetition of its A:B grid and the standard $2.5m{\times}1.0m$ sliding window determined the proportions of both its plan and elevation, and thus the regulating line became 'automatic,' losing its viability as a practical tool. Though the regulating titles of the La Roche-Jeanneret look as if they were an afterthought, drawn after the design was complete, they were most active, requiring tenacity and discipline in their application. On the other hand, the seemingly 'redundant' regulating line of the Villa Stein-de Monzie gains its raison d'etre from the dom-ino frame. Its cantilevers and uninterrupted horizontal window could be used in decisive fashion because of the guarantee that the correct proportion would always be maintained. Thus we discover that Le Corbusier's discipline of the 1920s had a certain spectrum of flexibility. His 'parti' ranged from the extremely loose and malleable grid of the Villa La Roche-Jeanneret to the fixed grid of the Villa Stein-de Monzie. In different ways, these projects retain the tension between the dom-ino frame and the regulating line. For Le Corbusier, as much as the grid was an object with fixed attributes, it was also an active medium manipulated by the will of the architect.
Objective: This paper discusses how service design is related to two well-known disciplines, interaction design and cognitive systems engineering, which are applied to the design of software, websites and mobile phones, and the design of control room of nuclear power plants and cockpit control, respectively. Background: Service design has been spotlighted recently due to its promisingness to service industry. Successful cases of service design are widely shared among designers. Service design, however, is treated as practice rather than a discipline. Method: It was discussed that it is important to consider the interaction between customers and services as in interaction design, and some domains are complex enough and have functional limitation as in cognitive systems engineering. Results: Models and design tools of the disciplines are introduced and applied to service design practices. Conclusion: It was concluded that service design has the characteristics of both interaction design and cognitive systems engineering.
Jinling University during the Republic of China (1912-1949) is the most representative academic institution in film education and filmscience, film production, film distribution and many other aspects. Although Jinling University had not yet formed an independent animation discipline, the opening of its animation curriculum, theoretical research, and the practice and production of animation have played an important historical role in the development of Chinese animation and are the beginning of China's animation education. This study investigates Jinling University comprehensively and systematically reviews the forms of animation education. At the same time, macroscopical education and microcosmic education concepts are used to analyze the social context of the Republic of China of discipline construction and external education concept at that time. It sketches the historical clues of the development of animation education in Jinling University in the Republic of China, and lays the foundation for further studying animation education in the Republic of China in theory.
In practical designs, most of the multidisciplinary problems have a large-size and complicate design system. Since multidisciplinary problems have hundreds of analyses and thousands of variables, the grouping of analyses and the order of the analyses in the group affect the speed of the total design cycle. Therefore, it is very important to reorder and regroup the original design processes in order to minimize the total computational cost by decomposing large multidisciplinary problems into several multidisciplinary analysis subsystems (MDASS) and by processing them in parallel. In this study, a new decomposition method is proposed for parallel processing of multidisciplinary design optimization, such as collaborative optimization (CO) and individual discipline feasible (IDF) method. Numerical results for two example problems are presented to show the feasibility of the proposed method.

Civil structures should be designed with the lowest cost and longest lifetime possible and without service failure. The efficient and sustainable use of materials in building design and construction has always been at the forefront for civil engineers and environmentalists. Timber is one of the best contenders for these purposes particularly in terms of aesthetics; fire protection; strength-to-weight ratio; acoustic properties and seismic resistance. In recent years, timber has been used in commercial and taller buildings due to these significant advantages. It should be noted that, since the launch of the modern building standards and codes, a number of different structural systems have been developed to stabilise steel or concrete multistorey buildings, however, structural analysis of high-rise and multi-storey timber frame buildings subjected to lateral loads has not yet been fully understood. Additionally, timber degradation can occur as a result of biological decay of the elements and overloading that can result in structural damage. In such structures, the deficient members and joints require strengthening in order to satisfy new code requirements; determine acceptable level of safety; and avoid brittle failure following earthquake actions. This paper investigates performance assessment and damage assessment of older multi-storey timber buildings. One approach is to retrofit the beams in order to increase the ductility of the frame. Experimental studies indicate that Sprayed Fibre Reinforced Polymer (SFRP) repairing/retrofitting not only updates the integrity of the joint, but also increases its strength; stiffness; and ductility in such a way that the joint remains elastic. Non-linear finite element analysis ('pushover') is carried out to study the behaviour of the structure subjected to simulated gravity and lateral loads. A new global index is re-assessed for damage assessment of the plain and SFRP-retrofitted frames using capacity curves obtained from pushover analysis. This study shows that the proposed method is suitable for structural damage assessment of aged timber buildings. Also SFRP retrofitting can potentially improve the performance and load carrying capacity of the structure.

The automotive door has a large finite element model in analysis and many design requirements such as stiffness, natural frequency, side intrusion, etc. Thus, various related governing equations should be solved for systematic analysis and design. Because each governing equation has different characteristics, it is almost impossible to solve them simultaneously. Instead, they are separately handled and the analysis results are incorporated into the design separately. Currently, the design is usually conducted by trials and errors with engineering intuition in design practice. In this research, MDO methods are proposed to solve the problems that share design variables in disciplines. The idea is from the Gauss-Seidel type method for multi-discipline analysis. The developed methods show stable convergence and the weight of the door is reduced by fifteen percent.
