  • At the product design and development stage, the main criteria selecting a design alternative were performance aspect as well as cost aspect of a product. Ongoing new paradigm shifts such as low carbon green growth, climate change mitigation, sustainable society development urged considering environmental aspect of a product at the product design and development stage. Up to recently, only cost aspect except performance of a product was considered at the railway vehicle design process. Therefore, it is needed to develop a method that may consider environmental aspect of a product at the railway vehicle design process. Lee (2011) proposed that a method of an integration assessment of environmental aspect and cost aspect based on GHG emission instead of based on monetary value. This study conducted that apply the method of Lee (2011) to design alternative selection process of a railway vehicle. From the integrated view of environmental and cost aspect, the reference product and design alternatives are assessed and compared.

  • In this paper, dimension tolerance design for components is studied. Three cost factors are considered: machining cost, rework cost, and loss related to product quality which is affected by the tolerances of components. We propose a procedure to determine the optimal tolerances of components and a, pp.y the procedure to design the tolerances of fine motion stage in semicoduct machine. We compare the proposed procedure with the existing model for determining tolerance economically.

Guaranteed Cost Control of Parameter Uncertain Systems with Time Delay

  • In this paper, we deal with the problem of designing guaranteed cost state feedback controller for the generalized time-varying delay systems with delayed state and control input. The generalized time delay system problems solved on the basis of LMI(linear matrix inequality) technique considering time-varying delays. The sufficient condition for the existence of controller and guaranteed cost state feedback controller design methods are presented. Also, using some changes of variables and Schur complements, the obtained sufficient condition can be reformulated as LMI forms in terms of transformed variables. Therefore, all solutions of LMIs, guaranteed cost controller gain, and guaranteed cost are obtained at the same time. The proposed controller design method can be extended into the problem of robust guaranteed cost controller design method for parameter uncertain systems with time-varying delays easily.

Development of a Costing Model for Wooden Patterns of Casting Structures for Machine Tools

  • A study is carried out on investigation on pattern costs, identification of geometric parameters for the cost, and development of cost estimation models for casting patterns. Pattern costs for machine tool structures are collected and analyzed to identify the important geometric parameters that affect the costs. The parameters are used for the development of the costing models. It is found that the geometric parameters can be easily obtained from a CAD system and then the costing models estimate a pattern cost in a minimum time. The models are verified with the structures whose pattern cost was used for this study. It is expected that this costing models can evaluate the cost of casting structures of machine tools in search of a near-optimal design based on manufacturing cost and, for example, weight at the design stage.

  • This paper deals with the cost reduction design of a single-phase line-start permanent magnet(LSPM) motor. Due to high cost of the permanent magnet(PM), cost reduction can be effectively achieved by reducing PM volume. Therefore, motor characteristics according to the PM volume are calculated by using d-q axis equivalent circuit analysis, and the characteristic map is made. In the characteristic map, maximum torque and efficiency are shown according to motor parameters such as back electromotive force(back emf) and inductances; back emf represents the PM volume. Minimum back emf and inductances satisfying output performance are determined in the characteristic map. Then, motor geometry based on the prototype motor is optimized to get the determined parameters using response surface methodology(RSM) and finite element method(FEM). Through the presented cost reduction design, total PM volume is reduced to 32% of prototype model.

Numerical experimentation for the optimal design for reinforced concrete rectangular combined footings

  • This paper shows an optimal design for reinforced concrete rectangular combined footings based on a criterion of minimum cost. The classical design method for reinforced concrete rectangular combined footings is: First, a dimension is proposed that should comply with the allowable stresses (Minimum stress should be equal or greater than zero, and maximum stress must be equal or less than the allowable capacity withstand by the soil); subsequently, the effective depth is obtained due to the maximum moment and this effective depth is checked against the bending shear and the punching shear until, it complies with these conditions, and then the steel reinforcement is obtained, but this is not guaranteed that obtained cost is a minimum cost. A numerical experimentation shows the model capability to estimate the minimum cost design of the materials used for a rectangular combined footing that supports two columns under an axial load and moments in two directions at each column in accordance to the building code requirements for structural concrete and commentary (ACI 318S-14). Numerical experimentation is developed by modifying the values of the rectangular combined footing to from "d" (Effective depth), "b" (Short dimension), "a" (Greater dimension), "${\rho}_{P1}$" (Ratio of reinforcement steel under column 1), "${\rho}_{P2}$" (Ratio of reinforcement steel under column 2), "${\rho}_{yLB}$" (Ratio of longitudinal reinforcement steel in the bottom), "${\rho}_{yLT}$" (Ratio of longitudinal reinforcement steel at the top). Results show that the optimal design is more economical and more precise with respect to the classical design. Therefore, the optimal design presented in this paper should be used to obtain the minimum cost design for reinforced concrete rectangular combined footings.

  • For estimation manufacturing cost during the early design stage, desingers have to know compositon of manufacturmg cost. Manufacturing cost is summalion of material cost and processmg cost. To be able to control the manufacturmg cost, it is necessary to estimate the costs adequately and to store the cost data in a generic way. a generic system, which is the basis for the control of the production costs, takes into account geometric information, material information, process information and production planning information Manufacturing cost is summation of material cost and processing cost.

  • 최근 건설 사업에서 시공이전단계인 설계단계 공사비관리의 중요성이 대두되고 있지만, 설계단계 공사비관리를 위한 제도적 장치나 기술수준은 외국에 비해 매우 낙후되어 있다. 전통적으로 건설 사업에서 공사비관리는 시공단계에 국한되어, 설계단계 공사비관리를 위한 기본 틀과 분류 표준, 공사비 데이터 등 인프라가 부족하여 설계단계 공사비관리 업무를 수행하는데 있어 한계가 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 국내 설계단계에서 공사비관리가 효율적으로 수행되기 위해 관리되어야 할 주요 영향요인을 도출하고자 하였다. 설계실무자를 대상으로 설문조사를 통해 설계단계 공사비관리 현황과 문제점을 분석하였고, 설계단계 공사비관리 저해항목에 대해 공사비관리 업무에 미치는 영향도를 조사하였다. 요인분석을 통해 5개의 설계단계 공사비관리 주요 영향요인을 도출하여 향후 설계단계 공사비관리 지원도구 및 제도적 기반 구축에 기여할 수 있도록 하였다.

Modeling of Remediation Design in Theoretically Heterogeneous Domain

  • Probabilistic approaches are applied to the problem of groundwater remediation design to consider the risk of design and heterogeneity of real condition. Hydraulic conductivity fields are generated by two methods. First, the homogeneous domains which have the hydraulic conductivity with log-normal distribution are constructed by using Latin Hypercube method. Second, random fields with a certain spatial correlation are also generated. The optimal solutions represented by cumulative distribution function (CDF) of relative cost are calculated by three different manners. The one uses the homogeneous domains with the optimal design of base condition. It shows that ver)'wide range of cost and the influences of different penalty values. The other one uses the random field with same design and shows narrow range of cost. These CDF can reflect on the risk of optimal solution in a simple exampie condition and be effective in estimating the cost of groundwater remediation.

Optimum cost design of RC columns using artificial bee colony algorithm

  • Optimum cost design of columns subjected to axial force and uniaxial bending moment is presented in this paper. In the formulation of the optimum design problem, the height and width of the column, diameter and number of reinforcement bars are treated as design variables. The design constraints are implemented according to ACI 318-08 and studies in the literature. The objective function is taken as the cost of unit length of the column consisting the cost of concrete, steel, and shuttering. The solution of the design problem is obtained using the artificial bee colony algorithm which is one of the recent additions to metaheuristic techniques. The Artificial Bee Colony Algorithm is imitated the foraging behaviors of bee swarms. In application of this algorithm to the constraint problem, Deb's constraint handling method is used. Obtained results showed that the optimum value of numerical example is nearly same with the existing values in the literature.
