This study aims at examining closely the scour around a pier due to irregular water stage changes during flood. At the Sangye bridge is located lowermost downstream of the Bocheong stream in the Kum River, the IHP experimental watershed. For this purpose, we have analyzed the change of scour depths due to stage hydrographs of experimental basin by a simulation. To examine the scour phenomenon around a pier due to irregular stage change in flood, we have analyzed the change of scour depth corresponding to stage hydrograph of field watershed after verification of model channel. From this study, the following conclusions are made: First, in case of predicting the maximum scour depth around a pier with stage hydrograph in the state of steady flow, we should choose the highest stage. Second, after increasing the stage, the equilibrium scour depth became smaller than the maximum scour depth. Therefore, in case of estimating the maximum scour depth in rivers, it is recommended that we should consider additional scour depth with is reduced by infilling the sediments.
Reports on the comparison of clinical effect between non-surgical and surgical therapy, and the change of the clinical parameters during maintenance phase have been rarely presented in Korea. This study was to observe the clinical changes during maintenance phase of 6 months in patients with chronic periodontitis treated by non-surgical or surgical therapy in Department of Periodontics, Chonnam National University Hospital. Among the systemically healthy and non-smoking patients with moderate to severe chronic periodontitis, twenty eight patients (mean age: 47.5 years) treated by non-surgical therapy (scaling and root planning) and nineteen patients (mean age: 47.3 years) treated by surgical therapy (flap surgery) were included in this study. The periodontal supportive therapy including recall check and oral hygiene reinforcement was started as maintenance phase since 1 month of healing after treatment. Probing depth, gingival recession. clinical attachment level and tooth mobility were recorded at initial, baseline and 1, 2, 3 and 6 month of maintenance phase. The clinical parameters were compared between the non-surgical and surgical therapies using Student t-test and repeated measure ANOVA by initial probing depth and surfaces. Surgical therapy resulted in greater change in clinical parameters than non-surgical therapy. During the maintenance phase of 6 months, the clinical effects after treatment had been changed in different pattern according to initial probing depth and tooth surface. During maintenance phase, probing depth increased more and gingival recession increased less after surgical therapy, compared to non-surgical therapy. The sites of initial probing depth less than 3 mm lost more clinical attachment level, and the sites of initial probing depth more than 7 mm gained clinical attachment level during maintenance phase after non-surgical therapy, compared to surgical therapy. Non-surgical therapy resulted in greater reduction of tooth mobility than surgical therapy during maintenance phase. These results indicate that the clinical effects of non-surgical or surgical therapy may be different and may change during the maintenance phase.

Timing of terrace formation is a key information for understanding the evolution of fluvial systems. In particular, dating strath terrace (i.e. timing of terrace abandonment) is more difficult than depositional terrace that is conventionally constrained by radiocarbon, OSL and other dating methods targeting samples within terrace deposit. Surface exposure dating utilizing cosmogenic 10Be provides more reliability because it can be applied directly to the surface of a fluvial terrace. Thus, this method has been increasingly used for alluvial deposits. As well as other geomorphic surfaces over the last decades. Some inherent conditions, however, such as post-depositional 10Be concentration (i.e. inheritance), surface erosion rate, and density change challenge the application of cosmogenic 10Be to depositional terrace surface against simple bedrock surface. Here we present the first application of 10Be depth profile dating to a thin-gravel covered strath terrace in Korea. Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) helped us in better constraining the timing of abandonment of the strath terrace, since which its surface stochastically denuded with time, causing unexpected change of 10Be production with depth. The age of the strath terrace estimated by MCS was 109 ka, ~4% older than the one (104 ka) calculated by simple depth profile dating, which yielded the best-fit surface erosion rate of 2.1 mm/ka. Our study demonstrates that the application of 10Be depth profile dating of strath terrace using MCS is more robust and reliable because it considers post-depositional change of initial conditions such as erosion rate.
The estuary has a very complex coastline and bottom topography. Before the close of floodgate, the Keum river estuary was deposited with sediment from the Keum river, created bythe construction of the Keum river estuary dike. So, a periodical dredging is necessary to assure water depth for boat entry and departure to Kunsan port. Theof this study is to find the change of tidal current of M2tide and the topography before and after construction at the Geum River estuary dike. The change of water depth is investigated by digitizing the sea map (No.305) of Kunsan port, which was edited by National Oceanographic Research Institute. The calculated co-range and co-tidal charts of M2tide before the dike construction are similar to the observed ones. Therefore, the amplitude and phase after construction at Geum River estuary dike increases compared to before construction at Geum River estuary dike. The scour occurred in the A-A' section.

The factors to influence the travelling distance of sprayed particles for the medium range nozzle may by the groove depth of swirl plate, the cap slope, the diameter of cap hole, and pressure. 1. This study was conducted to examine Interaction effects among four factors to the travelling distance. The results of this study are summarized as followa; a) Interaction effects among four factors the groove depth(G), cap slope(C), diameter of cap hole(D), and pressure (P), were significant to influence the travelling distance except for $G{\times}P,\;C{\times}D{\times}P\;and\;G{\times}C{\times}D{\times}P$. b) Interaction effects with the pressure were very smaller than interaction effects among the other factors. c) Effect of change of the groove depth of swirl plate on the travelling distance of sprayed particles was generally a linear, the increasing rate of the change was about 0.345, which was very significant. d) Effect of change of cap slope on the travelling distance was generally a linear or a dull quadratic, the increasing rate was very small. e) Main effect of change of cap slope in the medium range nozzle was very smaller than that of the close range nozzle on the travelling distance, which was estimated by the changing of turning radius of flowing course in nozzle. f) Interaction effect between two factors in the medium range nozzle was more significant than that of the close range nozzle on the travelling distance.
In this paper, we propose a method which detects the nose and face of certain human by using the depth image. The proposed method has advantages of the low computational complexity and the high accuracy even in dark environment. Also, the detection accuracy of nose and face does not change in various postures. The proposed method first locates the locally protruding part from the depth image of the human body captured through the depth camera, and then confirms the nose through the depth characteristic of the nose and surrounding pixels. After finding the correct pixel of the nose, we determine the region of interest centered on the nose. In this case, the size of the region of interest is variable depending on the depth value of the nose. Then, face region can be found by performing binarization using the depth histogram in the region of interest. The proposed method can detect the nose and the face accurately regardless of the pose or the illumination of the captured area.
In this paper, slurry fluid motion, abrasive particle motion, and effects of groove sizing on the pads are numerically investigated in the 2D geometry. Groove depth is optimized in order to maximized the abrasive effect. The simulation results are analyzed in terms of shear stress on pad, groove and wafer, streamline and velocity vector. The change of groove depth entails vortex pattern change, and consequently affects material removal rate. Numerical analysis is very helpful for disclosing polishing mechanism and local physics.

In this paper, we propose a face recognition method which is not sensitive to illumination change and prevents false recognition of photographs. The proposed method uses infrared and depth images at the same time, solves sensitivity of illumination change by infrared image, and prevents false recognition of two - dimensional image such as photograph by depth image. Face detection method using infrared and depth images simultaneously and feature extraction and matching method for face recognition are realized. Simulation results show that accuracy of face recognition is increased compared to conventional methods.
Purpose : The purpose of this study is to get basal user guidelines of safer bag-valve-mask application on patient with normal pulmonary patho-physiologic condition. Methods : This study was accomplished by pre-qualified 25 EMS junior grade students. Participants were instructed randomly compress bag to one-third, half and total and also with differesnt compression speed. Resultant tidal volumes and mean airway pressures obtained in RespiTrainer were analysed in relation to the each compression depth and rate. Results : Demographic difference does not affect tidal volume with any compression depth and rate change. Increasing compression depth is correlated with tidal volume increasement at any compression rate and also with mean airway pressure. If the compression depth is same, compression rate change did not affect significantly the resultant tidal volume or mean airway pressure. Conclusion : Hand size, Experience, BMI dose not affect tidal volume. Compress the 1600 ml bag half to total amount is safe way to offer sufficient tidal volume without risky high airway pressure delivery to patient airway who with normal lung patho-physiologic condition.

In this study, we conducted preliminary survey, diagnostic test and in-depth interview in order to study Korean pre-service chemistry teachers' understanding on entropy and investigate how Korean pre-service chemistry teachers deal with the natural phenomenon which is related to entropy conceptions. Firstly, as a result of the preliminary survey, it was found that pre-service chemistry teachers strongly recognized entropy as the degree of disorder. Secondly, the diagnostic test showed pre-service chemistry teachers were mostly confused about whether the entropy of the universe increases during a spontaneous change, and they had a tendency to interpret the natural phenomenon related to entropy change as the change of disorder. Finally, during in-depth interview, after we explained entropy change in all diagnostic test questions with the concept of microstate, pre-service chemistry teachers revealed a better understanding about entropy. Through this research, pre-service chemistry teachers had an opportunity to reflect on their deficiencies of entropy conceptions, which will ultimately help students to approach the concept of entropy more correctly.
