  • It is necessary to drill new opening in an existing R.C beam either for service ducts and pipes or the determination of in place concrete strength. Therefore, to simulate in this study, 18-R.C beams were fabricated with circular openings. The major parameters considered are the sizes, location of opening and cut-off stirrup. These beams are tested shear failure and capacity under a point loading. The sizes of opening are changed 0.11, 0.2, 0.3 times of beam-depth and the locations of opening are divided into $X_1$ zone, $X_2$ zone, $X_3$zone. Loads are applied up to failure to observe the cracking initiation and propagation, initial diagonal cracking, midspan deflection. As a result, the sizes of opening with 0.11D and 0.2D in R.C beams without cutoff stirrup are profitable in $X_1$ and $X_3$zone. R.C beams with 0.3D and cutoff stirrup are advantageous in $X_3$zone.

  • The time of the onset of double-diffusive convection in time-dependent, nonlinear concentration fields is investigated theoretically. The initially quiescent horizontal fluid layer with a uniform temperature gradient experiences a sudden concentration change from below, but its stable thermal stratification affects concentration effects in such way to invoke convective motion. The related stability analysis, including Soret effect, is conducted on the basis of the propagation theory. Under the linear stability theory the concentration penetration depth is used as a length scaling factor, and the similarity transform for the linearized perturbation equations. The newlly obtained stability equations are solved numerically. The resulting critical time to mark the onset of regular cells are obtained as a function of the thermal Rayleigh number, the solute Rayleigh number, and the Soret effect coefficient. For a certain value of the Soret effect coefficient, the stable thermal gradient promote double-diffusive convective motion.

  • The radar method is becoming one of the major nondestructive testing (NDT) techniques for concrete structures. Numerical modeling of electromagnetic wave is needed to analyze radar measurement results and to study the influence of measurement parameters on the radar measurements. Finite difference-time domain (FD-TD) method is used to simulate electromagnetic wave propagation through concrete specimens. Three concrete specimens with a 19.1 mm rebar embedded at 40 mm, 60 mm, and 80 mm depth are modeled in 3-dimension. As results, 2-D image processing scheme of modeling data has been developed and applied to the imaging of steel bars inside concrete.

  • The seismic damage assessment to the postulated earthquake is attempted for the buildings in the model district of Seoul City. The capacity spectrum method is employed in which the vulnerability functions are expressed as functions of the spectral displacement. the database of the building stock is constructed and managed using Geographic Information System software. The model district is selected to represent the typical structural and residential characteristics of Seoul City The structural properties were collected from the design documents. The field inspections were carried out to find out the current status of the building. They are classified into 11 structural types. The fragility curves in HazUS are employed, The ground motions from the postulated earthquakes are simulated using the Boor's methods, The surface soil in the district is classified into 3 profiles using the depth as the parameter. The one-dimensional wave propagation method is used to calculate he filtered ground motion through surface soil layer. The average spectrum of this sample time histories is used as the demand curves. The calculated results are expressed in maps using GIS software ArcView 3.0a

  • Fire disasters have frequently happened in concrete structures, which resulted in severe structural damages and unsafety. In this case, the method which had evaluated the safety of damaged structures was often unaccepted from most of stakeholders and engineers. The objective of this study is to develope the procedure and method to be able to determine the safety. Numerical simulation was applied to produce the maximum temperature and temperature distribution. Nextly, temperature propagation analysis was performed to plot temperature gradients at each depth and location. The material strength curve versus temperature was applied to determine the safety of concrete structures damaged by fire. The maximum temperature should be calibrated considering real fire records ; magnitude, intensity, situation etc. The results shows that the selected procedure and method was applicable and practical.

  • Recently, the industrial development caused the expansion of city and the field of construction is being larged in size. So, information of construction buried in underground is necessary. In this paper, we were investigated the detachability on various specimen in self-designed test field using the GPR system with three antenna elements and it was constantly radiated 730 MHz frequency. To examine the detachability on various condition, the test were displayed B-scan CRT. And the pattern was exactly positioned when it was compared to the real buried-depth. Therefore, we can confirm similarity between the wave-propagation velocity and previous results.

  • An efficient numerical model of the modified mild slope equation, based on the robust iterative method is presented. The model developed is verified against other numerical experimental results, related to wave reflection from an arc-shaped bar and wave transformation over a circular shoal. The results show that the modified mild slope equation model is capable of producing accurate results for wave propagation in a region where water depth varies substantially, while the conventional mild slope equation model yeilds large errors, as the mild slope assumption is violated.

  • Depth error correction effect for maladjusted stereo cameras with calibrated pixel distance parameter is presented. The proposed neural network technique is the real time computation method based theory of inter-node diffusion for searching the safety distances from the sudden appearance-objects during the work driving. The main steps of the distance computation using the theory of stereo vision like the eyes of man is following steps. One is the processing for finding the corresponding points of stereo images and the other is the interpolation processing of full image data from nonlinear image data of objects. All of them request much memory space and time. Therefore the most reliable neural-network algorithm is derived for real-time matching of objects, which is composed of a dynamic programming algorithm based on sequence matching techniques.

  • In general, the sheet metal and die are described by finite elements for the simulation of the metal forming processes. Because the characteristics as continuum of the sheet metal are represented with triangles and rectangles, the errors occur inevitably in finite element analysis. Many contact schemes to describe the deformation modes exactly have been introduced in order to decrease these errors. In this study, a scheme for continuous contact treatment is proposed in order to consider the realistic behavior of contact phenomena during the forming process. The discrete mesh causes stepwise propagation of contact nodes of the sheet even though the contact region of the real forming process is altered very smoothly. It gives rise to convergence problem in case that the process, for example bending process, is sensitive to the contact between the sheet and the tools. The analysis of the unconstrained cylindrical bending process without blank holder is also presented in order to investigate the effect of the proposed algorithm.

  • Utilizing the three-dimensional Snyder-Mitchell model with a PT-symmetric potential, we study the influence of PT symmetry on beam propagation in strongly nonlocal nonlinear media. The complex Coulomb potential is used as the PT-symmetric potential. A localized spatiotemporal accessible soliton solution of the model is obtained. Specific values of the modulation depth for different soliton parameters are discussed. Our results reveal that in these media the localized solitons can exist in various shapes, such as single-layer and multi-layer disk-shaped structures, as well as vortex-ring and necklace patterns.
