포신 강선의 마모 깊이 측정을 위한 정전용량 방식의 MEMS 간극센서 (MEMS Capacitive Gap Sensor for Measuring Abrasion Depth of Gun Barrel Rifling)

  • MEMS capacitive gap sensor is developed for measuring abrasion depth of gun barrel rifling. Measuring abrasion depth of gun barrel rifling is very important because it is related with exactness of firing and life of arms. The method using a gap sensor is not to hurt rifling. And it can measure abrasion depth through minimum shooting, because the developed gap sensor can measure from $1{\mu}m{\sim}12{\mu}m$ using Polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS) material and making a stretchable electrode on PDMS. And it's resolution is 1 ${\mu}m$ using capacitive method and MEMS technology.

농용 트랙터용 접촉식 지상고 측정 센서 개발 (Development of a Contact Type Height Sensor to Measure Ground Clearance of an Agricultural Tractor)

  • The tillage depth control system is one of the most salient control system of tractor implements. A contact-type height sensor was developed to measure ground clearance for the tillage depth control. The height sensor was fabricated in this study, and its efficacy in a tillage depth control system was evaluated. Experiments were conducted in order to determine both static and dynamic detection characteristics of the height sensor using soil bin system on the sampled soil (sandy loam, sand, clay loam). The results of the static detection characteristics showed that in the case, sandy loam soil despite and clay loam soil at a wet basis moisture content of 30%, large measurement errors were observed a due to penetration of a plastic puck into the sampled soil. The results of the dynamic detection characteristics showed that the height sensor detected the distance from the ground of sandy loam soil despite the uneven nature of the ground surface and the changes in traveling speed $1km/h{\sim}5km/h$ at a wet basis moisture content of 10%.

Multiple Color and ToF Camera System for 3D Contents Generation

  • In this paper, we present a multi-depth generation method using a time-of-flight (ToF) fusion camera system. Multi-view color cameras in the parallel type and ToF depth sensors are used for 3D scene capturing. Although each ToF depth sensor can measure the depth information of the scene in real-time, it has several problems to overcome. Therefore, after we capture low-resolution depth images by ToF depth sensors, we perform a post-processing to solve the problems. Then, the depth information of the depth sensor is warped to color image positions and used as initial disparity values. In addition, the warped depth data is used to generate a depth-discontinuity map for efficient stereo matching. By applying the stereo matching using belief propagation with the depth-discontinuity map and the initial disparity information, we have obtained more accurate and stable multi-view disparity maps in reduced time.

A Study on Depth Information Acquisition Improved by Gradual Pixel Bundling Method at TOF Image Sensor

  • The depth information of an image is used in a variety of applications including 2D/3D conversion, multi-view extraction, modeling, depth keying, etc. There are various methods to acquire depth information, such as the method to use a stereo camera, the method to use the depth camera of flight time (TOF) method, the method to use 3D modeling software, the method to use 3D scanner and the method to use a structured light just like Microsoft's Kinect. In particular, the depth camera of TOF method measures the distance using infrared light, whereas TOF sensor depends on the sensitivity of optical light of an image sensor (CCD/CMOS). Thus, it is mandatory for the existing image sensors to get an infrared light image by bundling several pixels; these requirements generate a phenomenon to reduce the resolution of an image. This thesis proposed a measure to acquire a high-resolution image through gradual area movement while acquiring a low-resolution image through pixel bundling method. From this measure, one can obtain an effect of acquiring image information in which illumination intensity (lux) and resolution were improved without increasing the performance of an image sensor since the image resolution is not improved as resolving a low-illumination intensity (lux) in accordance with the gradual pixel bundling algorithm.

  • The snow-fatting measurement system including the snow sensor applying the photo-coupler is investigated in this study and using this snow sensor the height of snow fallen is measured. To measure the snow depth, five photo sensors are arranged with 5 mm distance. The snow-falling measurement system, which is measuring the motor revolution controlled with stepping motor, is mounted above the snow surface. From this work, it is feasible to measure quantitatively the snow on real time. Its software implements a proven method to achieve valid measurements also under difficult conditions as future study. In cases where the snow sensor is applieded to the prediction of snow in the meteorological observation system and the snow removing system, it is recommend the GRS-Option in order to improve the quality of snow measurements for better compensation.

레이저 표면경화공정에서 경화층깊이의 실시간 측정을 위한 와전류 전자기장의 이론적 해석 (A Numerical Analysis of Eddy-Current Electromagnetic Field for the In-Process Measurement of Case Depth in Laser Surface Hardening Processes)

  • In laser heat treatment process of steels, the thin layer of substrate is rapidly heated to the austenitizing temperature and subsequently cooled at a very fast rate due to the self-quenching effect. Consequently, it is transformed to martensitic structure which has low magnetic permeability. This observation facilitates the use of a sensor measuring the change of electromagnetic field induced by the hardening layer. In this paper, the eddy-current electromagnetic field is analyzed by a finite element method. The purpose of this analysis is to investigate how the electrical impedance of the sensor's sensing coil varies with the change in permeability. To achieve this, a numerical model is formulated, taking into consideration the hardening depth, distance of the sensor from the hardened surface and the frequency driving the sensor. The results obtained by numerical simulation show that the eddy-current measurement method can feasibly be used to measure the changing hardening depth within the frequency range from 10 kHz to 50 kHz.

연삭가공에 있어 비가공 시간 단축에 관한 연구(II) (Reducing the Non Grinding Time in Grinding Operations(2nd report) -Decision of Dressing Chance and Depth by the Direct Measurement of Grinding Wheel Surface-)

  • In general, grinding is one of the final machining processes which determines the surface quality of machined products. Since the ground surface is affected by the states of grains and voids on the grinding wheel surface, the wheel should be dressed before the machined surface deteriorates over a quality limit This paper describes a systematic approach to decide a proper dressing chance and an optimal dressing depth for the working grinding wheel. An eddy current sensor and a laser displacement sensor are used to measure the loading on the working wheel surface and the topography of the dressed wheel surface respec- tively. The dressing chance can be properly decided through the relational locus between the amount of handing and the machined surface roughness. An optimal dressing depth to guarantee the less wheel loss and the higher wheel surface quality is decided through the analysis of the variance of topography for the dressed wheel surface, which decreases at three different rates according to the accumulated dressing depth.

A Fusion Positioning System of Long Baseline and Pressure Sensor for Ship and Harbor Inspection ROV

  • The maintenance of a ship is essential for safe navigation and hence regular surveys are prescribed according to the rule of classification societies. A hull inspection is generally performed by professional divers, but it takes a long time and the efficiency is low in terms of time and cost. In this research, a ROV(Remotely Operated Vehicle) named as SNU-ROV(Seoul National University-ROV) is developed to replace the conventional inspection method. In this system, the ROV is intended to be used for inspecting ship and harbor because harbor inspection is merging as a safety measure against any possible terror actions. In order to increase the efficiency of inspection, the ROV must be able to measure the exact position of damages. SNU-ROV has a positioning system based on LBL(Long Base Line). In shallow water such as harbor, however, LBL has bad DOP(Dilution of Precision) in the depth direction due to the limited depth. Thus LBL only can not locate the exact depth position. To solve the DOP problem, a pressure sensor is introduced to LBL and a complementary filter is attached by using indirect feedback Kalman filter. Thus developed positioning system is verified by simulation and experiment in towing tank.

키넥트 깊이 측정 센서의 가시 범위 내 감지된 사물의 거리 측정 시스템과 그 응용분야 (Distance measurement System from detected objects within Kinect depth sensor's field of view and its applications)

  • 마이크로소프트에서 게임용 자연스러운 사용자 인터페이스를 위해 개발된 깊이 카메라인 키넥트 깊이 측정 센서는 컴퓨터 비전 분야에 있어 매우 유용한 도구이다. 키넥트의 깊이 측정 센서와 그 높은 프레임률로 인해, 본 논문에서는 키넥트 카메라를 사용해 거리 측정 시스템을 개발하였으며, 이를 이동 시 인간과 같이 사물을 감지하는데 주변 환경을 인지하기 위해 시각 시스템이 필요한 무인 차량에 시험하였다. 즉, 키넥트 깊이 측정 센서를 이용해 가시 범위 내 사물을 감지하고 사물에서 시각 센서의 거리 측정 시스템을 개선한다. 감지된 사물을 정밀하게 확인하여 실제 사물인지, 또는 픽셀 노즈(nose)인지 판단해 실제 사물이 아닌 픽셀을 무시함으로써 처리 시간을 줄인다. 이미지 처리를 위한 오픈 CV 라이브러리와 함께 깊이 분할 기법을 활용하여, 키넥트 카메라의 가시 범위 내 사물을 확인할 수 있으며, 해당 사물과 센서 사이의 거리를 측정할 수 있다. 시험 결과에 따르면 본 시스템은 저가 범위 센서인 키넥트 카메라가 장착된 자율주행차에 사용하여 감지된 사물로부터 측정 거리에 이르면 어플리케이션 방식에 따라 프로세스를 처리할 수 있는 것으로 나타났다.

A distributed piezo-polymer scour net for bridge scour hole topography monitoring

  • Scour is one of the leading causes of overwater bridge failures worldwide. While monitoring systems have already been implemented or are still being developed, they suffer from limitations such as high costs, inaccuracies, and low reliability, among others. Also, most sensors only measure scour depth at one location and near the pier. Thus, the objective is to design a simple, low cost, scour hole topography monitoring system that could better characterize the entire depth, shape, and size of bridge scour holes. The design is based on burying a robust, waterproofed, piezoelectric sensor strip in the streambed. When scour erodes sediments to expose the sensor, flowing water excites it to cause the generation of time-varying voltage signals. An algorithm then takes the time-domain data and maps it to the frequency-domain for identifying the sensor's resonant frequency, which is used for calculating the exposed sensor length or scour depth. Here, three different sets of tests were conducted to validate this new technique. First, a single sensor was tested in ambient air, and its exposed length was varied. Upon verifying the sensing concept, a waterproofed prototype was buried in soil and tested in a tank filled with water. Sensor performance was characterized as soil was manually eroded away, which simulated various scour depths. The results confirmed that sensor resonant frequencies decreased with increasing scour depths. Finally, a network of 11 sensors was configured to form a distributed monitoring system in the lab. Their exposed lengths were adjusted to simulate scour hole formation and evolution. Results showed promise that the proposed sensing system could be scaled up and used for bridge scour topography monitoring.
