The Stratigraphic and Sedimentologic Natures of the Kanweoldo Deposit Overlain by the Holocene Tidal Deposits, Cheonsu Bay, West Coast of Korea (한국 서해 천수만 북동부에 발달한 제4기 현세 조간대층 하위의 간월도층 연구)

  • The deposit (named Kanweoldo deposit) unconformably overlain by the Holocene tidal deposit is mainly exposed along the tidal channel of the Sajangpo tidal flat of Cheonsu Bay, west coast of Korea. The Kanweoldo deposit's sedimentary textures, sedimentary structures and erosion surfaces of the stratigraphic events have been investigated. The Kanweoldo deposit is mainly composed of mud, silt and sandy mud. The sedimentary criteria indicating intertidal deposit i.e. lenticular bedding, thinly and coarsely interlayered bedding, wavy lamination and flaser bedding are positively found in the Kanweoldo deposit. The deposit is semi-consolidated and brown in color, and has erosional contact (stratigraphic boundary) with the overlying Holocene tidal deposit. Considering such Kanweoldo deposit's sedimentary characteristics and stratigraphic relation with the Holocene tidal deposit, the Kanweoldo deposit seems to be deposited under intertidal environment during Riss-Wurm interglacial period and subaerially exposed and eroded during the last glacial period.

  • In order to establish a new temperature criterion to prevent the pistons from ring sticking due to deposit formation, bench test and engine test were performed. The effects of oil degradation and temperature on deposit formation was studied by a modified panel coking test. Oil degradation was analyzed by FTIR. Oil oxidation and nitration were selected as a factors to evaluate oil degradation. Bench test results show that oil oxidation is more effective to the deposit formation than oil nitration. And the temperature increase accelerates deposit formation and deposit formation increase rapidly above 26$0^{\circ}C$. Especially, in case of degraded oil, the deposit formation increases so rapidly that ring sticking can occur. The effect of piston temperature on the deposit formation was confirmed by engine test.

  • In order to investigate the characteristics of top ring groove deposit formation in diesel engine, engine test and simulation test were performed. From component analysis of used oils sampled from actual running engines, soot content in engine oil was selected as a main parameter for evaluating oil degradation. Deposit formation is highly related to soot content in lubricating oils. And high soot content oil accelerates deposit formation even in low temperature region below 26$0^{\circ}C$. In low temperature region below 26$0^{\circ}C$, deposit formation rate is mainly affected by top ring groove temperature. However, in high temperature region above 26$0^{\circ}C$, deposit formation rate is affected by soot content as well as top ring groove temperature. Therefore, soot content as well as top ring groove temperature should be kept a certain level in order to prevent troubles due to carbon deposit formation.

Deposit Margin Strategy of Banks and Saving Banks due to Changes in the Base Rate (기준금리 변동에 따른 은행과 저축은행의 예대마진 전략)

  • This research confirmed whether banks and saving banks increase their deposit margin under changes in the base rate. This paper has conclusions as follows. First, when the Bank of Korea changes the base rate, deposit rate variable are significant with panel analysis in the total data set and saving banks. This result implies that changes in the base rate affect deposit margin. Second, this study confirmed whether banks and saving banks maximize their deposit margin as base rate changes. As a result, when the Bank of Korea cut the base rate, the deposit margins of banks and saving banks decreased significantly. Still, their deposit margins are not statistically significant in the opposite situation. Therefore, this paper could not find evidence that banks and saving banks behave to maximize their deposit margin. Maybe, this phenomenon can appear because these financial institutions recognize this criticism.

  • In digital environment the hallmark of the national libraries is its responsibility or function of acquiring and preserving the county´s off-line and on-line publications in term of legal deposit. But the legal deposit system based on print materials in Korea predates the digital age and requires a new legal framework. It would be a tragedy if national library was not to archive the nation´s intellectual and cultural heritage because of limitation of legal deposit system. The purpose of this paper is to analyze form of the current deposit system and to suggest a reform model for legal deposit legislation with priority given to legal scheme and elements(terms, the depositor, the depository, object of deposit, number of copies, time of deposit, compensation and fine, right of migration and free access, etc.).

  • National libraries have an obligation to meet the information needs of users by collecting as many various materials as possible. As legal deposit accounts for the highest percentage of the collection building methods of national libraries, they are trying to encourage the legal deposit of the publishers. However, the rate of legal deposit for the most publishers are pretty low. Therefore, in this study, the improvement plans of legal deposit system for the purpose of helping legal deposit of national libraries improve smoothly has been investigated by identifying the problems with the legal deposit system that publishers had and by suggesting the matters that should be improved based on the recognition of legal deposit by publishers. The plans for the revitalization of legal deposit for the publishers are as follows: promoting factors of legal deposit systems such as scope, deadline, compensation, fine and legal deposit libraries, simplification of legal deposit procedures, set-up of automated online system for legal deposit and strengthening of the method for promoting and educating the legal deposit.

  • This study empirically analyzed the recognition and current status of university libraries related to the legal deposit of thesis and dissertation and investigated the ways to activate legal deposit to National Assembly Library. As a result, most universities conduct legal deposit of thesis and dissertation. However, most librarians face difficulties resulted from the duplication of deposits to many institutions. In the case that the deposits are not made, the main reasons are the university library's policies, duplication and inefficiency of the deposit procedures, and the limitation of obtaining copyright agreements. In order to address these limitations and to maximize the social and informational values of thesis and dissertation, this research proposed approaches to legal deposit of thesis and dissertation, including strengthening digital deposit system through the establishment of independent legal deposit law, preparing the effective ways of preservation. constructing an integrated deposit system, and developing professional collection of thesis and dissertation which can consolidate National Assembly Library.

Spray Deposit Distribution of a Small Orchard Sprayer (소형 과수방제기 살포입자의 부착량 분포)

  • Uniformity of spray deposit is one of the important factors in spray performance affecting efficacy of pest management. Distributions of spray deposit on artificial targets were measured and analyzed to enhance the efficiency of spray application. The research was studied to understand the deposition characteristics of spray droplets and to determine the optimum conditions of chemical application. The deposit and its pattern by the lower fan speed was more uniform and higher than that by the higher fan speed. The upward blasting distance was limited within 3 m, but the limit to the ground level was expanded the distance more than 3.5 m because of the accumulated droplets. When the fan speed was higher at the distance of 2.5 m, deposit reached to maximum. When the distance increased, deposit was getting lower. At the both fan speeds, the deposit was concentrated below $30^{\circ}$ because of the gravitation and the resistance of wind. This research can be useful in designing an orchard sprayer and its operation for various tree canopies. To achieve a uniform distribution of deposit using the air-blast type orchard sprayer, the application rate from the middle boom should be increased as the air velocity to the upward increased. The spray rate to the side boom should be limited in a minimal level.

  • The general purpose of deposit is to ensure that the knowledge of the present is not lost to the future. By today the status of legal deposit scheme in various countries including Korea is focusing on paper-based publication or tangible electronic publications. Born-digital publications including electronic books should be registered and be deposited for meeting the aims of deposit. This study presents the findings on deposit legislation, deposit arrangement, and accessing methods of networked electronic publications. The study suggests electronic deposit system, and outlines the technical and procedural challenges involved in developing the deposit system.

  • The National Library of Korea establishes an Act on Legal Deposit and Use for the Online Digital Products in 2007 and it is preparing an enforcement. The purpose of this study is to suggest rate base on legal deposit of digital products before enforcement of this bill. To reach the goal, this study reviewed the legal deposit acts on digital products in the world. Also the opinion of main stakeholders in this area was collected such as digital book publishers and music copyright association. In conclusion, this study proposed rate base of reimbursement for legal deposit of digital products.
