In order to evaluate health status of dental technicians as an individual and a group, this study was conducted with Todai Health Index Questionaire on randomly sampled 277 persons(236 males and 41 females) from Aug. 20 to Oct. 6, in 1990 obtained Following conclusions were drawn. 1. Age composition of the subjects was 136 males(57.6%) in the age of 20$\sim$29 and 28 females(68.3%) in the age of 20$\sim$24. As for working places, 215 males(91.1%) and 38 females (92.7%) were working for dental laboratories and rest of them were at clinics and hospitals. In working years, male technicians who have been working for 5$\sim$10 years amounted to 80 (33.8%) and 12 females(29.3%) were working for 1$\sim$3years. 2. Responses to psychosomatic subjective symptom complaints rated as the highest in multiple subjective symptom(males : 40.00%, females : 41.98%) and those in physical items and mental irritability(male : 24%, female : 25%) and in mental items came next in order. The rate of complaint in depression was higher in female group than in male group (p<0.05). 3. Resonses to psychosomatic subjective symptom complaints in male group were high in the age of 20$\sim$29 and in the age of 20$\sim$24 in female group. The rates of complaint were higher in multiple subjective symptom, respiratory, eye and skin(p<0.05) and digestives(p<0.01) complaints. 4. Responses to psychosomatic subjective symptom complaints were higher among persons working at dental laboratories than at other working places : dental clinics and hospitals in all the items except for respiratory, depression and aggressiveness. Rates of complaints in eye and skin showed significant difference between working places(p<0.05). 5. Those who are engaged in polishing part tended to complain more about psychosomatic subjective symptoms. 6. The higher the level of education is the more they complained the psychosomatic subjective symptoms both in male and female group. In the difference of complaint respones, male group showed high rates of complaint in depression and female group in aggressiveness(p<0.05). 7. Responses to psychosomatic complaints by the length of working service were moderate in males who were working less than 10 years, and they decreased after 10 years of service. Females showed the highest response rate in the group of 3$\sim$5 years service and the lowest response in the group of 5 years service. Male complained more in aggressiveness and female in respiratory and aggressiveness(p<0.05). 8. Purpose: The increasing demand for esthetically pleasing results has contributed to the use of ceramics for dental implant abutments. The aim of this study was to compare the biological response of epithelial tissue cultivated on lithium disilicate ($LS_2$) and zirconium oxide ($ZrO_2$) ceramics. Understanding the relevant physicochemical and mechanical properties of these ceramics will help identify the optimal material for facilitating gingival wound closure. Methods: Both biomaterials were prepared with 2 different surface treatments: raw and polished. Their physicochemical characteristics were analyzed by contact angle measurements, scanning white-light interferometry, and scanning electron microscopy. An organotypic culture was then performed using a chicken epithelium model to simulate peri-implant soft tissue. We measured the contact angle, hydrophobicity, and roughness of the materials as well as the tissue behavior at their surfaces (cell migration and cell adhesion). Results: The best cell migration was observed on $ZrO_2$ ceramic. Cell adhesion was also drastically lower on the polished $ZrO_2$ ceramic than on both the raw and polished $LS_2$. Evaluating various surface topographies of $LS_2$ showed that increasing surface roughness improved cell adhesion, leading to an increase of up to 13%. Conclusions: Our results demonstrate that a biomaterial, here $LS_2$, can be modified using simple surface changes in order to finely modulate soft tissue adhesion. Strong adhesion at the abutment associated with weak migration assists in gingival wound healing. On the same material, polishing can reduce cell adhesion without drastically modifying cell migration. A comparison of $LS_2$ and $ZrO_2$ ceramic showed that $LS_2$ was more conducive to creating varying tissue reactions. Our results can help dental surgeons to choose, especially for esthetic implant abutments, the most appropriate biomaterial as well as the most appropriate surface treatment to use in accordance with specific clinical dental applications.
This study was performed to measure the retentive force of dental impression tray according to retention form. The 9 resin beams($30{\times}60{\times}2.5mm$) were made of visible light-curing tray resin according to the surface texture, the size of hole and the number of rim. The resin block was fabricated in width 50mm, length 30mm, heght 40mm to maintain an even hydrocolloid impression material. The retentive force between the resin beam and hydrocolloid impression material was measured by Universal Testing Machine(Zwick Z020, Zwick Co., Germany). The results obtained in this study were as follows : 1. The retentive force of the resin beam with bilateral 4 rims, 2mm holes(9group) was highest(9.18kg), and the polishing resin beam(2group) was worst(4.85kg). 2. There was no significant difference between the polished the resin beam(2group) and the contrast resin beam(1group). 3. The retentive force of the rimmed resin beam was higher than the perforated resin beam. 4. The retentive force of the 2mm perforated resin beam(4group) was higher than the 3mm perforated resin beam(3group). 5. As increasing the number of rim increased the retentive force.
Purpose: Generally dental technicians clinically decide the sintering temperature of zirconia artificial teeth to match the color of the teeth. However, the sintering temperature influence the microstructure and mechanical strength of ceramic body. In this study, to evaluate the free choice of sintering temperature which leads to color the problems in zirconia false teeth, the variation of microstructure, mechanical strength, and colortone of zirconia ceramics according to the change of sintering temperature was investigated. Methods: Bar type specimens were prepared from commercial zirconia blocks by cutting and polishing into $0.8cm(L){\times}1.0cm(W){\times}4.8cm(H)$. Specimens were fired from 1,400 to $1,700^{\circ}C$ at $50^{\circ}C$ intervals and held for 1hour at highest temperature. Apparent porosity, water absorption, firing shrinkage, bulk density, bend strength, whiteness were tested. Microstructures were observed by SEM. Results: When fired above $1450^{\circ}C$, all specimens showed 0% apparent porosity and water absorption, 20% firing shrinkage, and $6.1g/cm^3$ bulk density regardless of firing temperatures. SEM photomicrographs showed grain growth of zirconia occurred above $1,600^{\circ}C$. Whiteness was also largely changed above this temperature. Maximum bend strength of 1,05MPa was obtained at $1,550^{\circ}C$. Bend strength lowered slightly above this temperature and showed $950{\ss}\acute{A}$ at $1,700^{\circ}C$. Conclusion: In order to fit the colortone of zirconia artificial teeth, arbitrary choice of firing temperature higher than $1,500^{\circ}C$, up to $1,700^{\circ}C$ did not influence the mechanical strength.
The purpose of this study was to observe corrosion characteristics of six dental amalgams and was to analyse corrosion products electrochemically. After each amalgam alloy and Hg was triturated as the direction of the manufacturer by using mechanical amalgamator, the triturated mass was inserted into the cylinderical metal mold ($12{\times}10mm$) and was condensed with 160kg/$cm^2$ by using the hydrolic press. The specimen was removed from the mold and was stored at room temperature for 1 week, and was polished with amalgam polishing kit. The anodic and cathodic polarization curve was obtained by using cyclic voltammetric method with 3-electrode potentiostat in saline for each amalgam and Ag, Sn, Cu plate specimen at $37{\pm}0.5^{\circ}C$. The potential sweep range was -1.7V~0. 4V(vs SCE) in working electrode and scan rate was 50mV/s and the exposed surface area of each specimen to the electrolytic solution was $0.79cm^2$. The results were as follows. 1. In anodic-cathodic polarization curve of amalgam specimens, two anodic current rising areas and two cathodic current peaks were obtained at the low Cu amalgam(CF, CS) specimen and three anodic current rising areas and three cathodic current peaks were obtained at the high Cu amalgam (TY, DS, HV) specimen. 2. As this compared with the anodic and cathodic current peak potentials of Sn, Cu and Ag specimen, the first cathodic current peak I c was caused by the reduction of divalent tin salt, second cathodic current peak IIIc results from the reduction of quadravalent tin salt, and third cathodic current peak me results from the reduction of copper salt. 3. As reverse potential sweeping was done repeatedly, anodic current was decreased slightly in all amalgam specimens.
Development of a dental Ni-Cr alloy system for porcelain veneering crown and bridge was studied in this research. The principles of alloy design were a) It should not contain toxic beryllium. b) It should have low melting Point. c) It should be easily ground and polished. d) It should possess an adequate strength to resist the deformational force In the mouth. e) It should be bondable Ivith porcelain by chemically. After investigating the effect of minor elements such as boron and rare earth metals on the mechanical properties of the Ni-Cr alloy system, the compromised ideal composition for dental use was determined. The composition was l9.6%, Cr, 5.6% Mo, 3.4% Si, 1, 0% Fe, 0.01% Ti, 0.5-1.0% B, 0.2-0.6% misch metal, balance Ni. To compare the performance of experimental alloy with commercially available alloys, the properties such as strength, melting point, and bond strength were measured. The results Ivere as follows: a) Boron increases the strength of the alloy but reduces the elongation. b) Misch metal increases the strength when the boron content is low, but does not increase the strength when boron content is high. And it reduces the elongation drastically, c) Mechanical strength of the experimental alloy was not superior to commercially available Be containing alloy, but handling performance such as castability, ease of granting and polishing, and cuttability were superior to the Be containing alloy.
Purpose: Peri-implantitis therapy and implant maintenance are fundamental practices to enhance the longevity of zirconia implants. However, the use of physical decontamination methods, including hand instruments, polishing devices, ultrasonic scalers, and laser systems, might damage the implant surfaces. The aim of this systematic review was to evaluate the effects of physical decontamination methods on zirconia implant surfaces. Methods: A systematic search was conducted using 5 electronic databases: Ovid MEDLINE, PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochrane. Hand searching of the OpenGrey database, reference lists, and 6 selected dental journals was also performed to identify relevant studies satisfying the eligibility criteria. Results: Overall, 1049 unique studies were identified, of which 11 studies were deemed suitable for final review. Air-abrasive devices with glycine powder, prophylaxis cups, and ultrasonic scalers with non-metal tips were found to cause minimal to no damage to implantgrade zirconia surfaces. However, hand instruments and ultrasonic scalers with metal tips have the potential to cause major damage to zirconia surfaces. In terms of laser systems, diode lasers appear to be the most promising, as no surface alterations were reported following their use. Conclusion: Air-abrasive devices and prophylaxis cups are safe for zirconia implant decontamination due to preservation of the implant surface integrity. In contrast, hand instruments and ultrasonic scalers with metal tips should be used with caution. Recommendations for the use of laser systems could not be fully established due to significant heterogeneity among included studies, but diode lasers may be the best-suited system. Further research-specifically, randomised controlled trials-would further confirm the effects of physical decontamination methods in a clinical setting.
데이터는 three-way ANOVA와 Tukey's post hoc test를 이용하여 분석하였다.
