Objectives : The purpose of this study was to help form treatment relationship with patient through more effective communication by defining the relationship between dental hygienist's medical communication and outpatient's reliance satisfaction. Methods : The study researched 273 male and female patients who visited dental clinics and hospitals of Busan from March 12 to March 26, 2012 and its results are as follows. Results : 1. The linguistic communication of dental hygienist was $3.72{\pm}0.63$ and non-linguistic communication was $3.48{\pm}0.58$. 2. For the dental hygienist's reliance satisfaction, the reliance was $3.62{\pm}0.65$ and the satisfaction was $3.74{\pm}0.65$. 3. The dental hygienist's communication degree depending on general characteristic was statistically significant when the job of patient was housewife(p<0.001) and the number of dental clinic visits was more than 10 times (p<0.000). The dental hygienist's non-linguistic communication was statistically significant depending on patient's gender(p<0.000), age(p<0.002), job(p<0.001) and number of dental clinic visits (p<0.000). 4. The dental hygienist's reliance and satisfaction showed statistically significant difference depending on patient's gender(p<0.000), age(p<0.002), job(p<0.001) and number of dental clinic visits (p<0.000). 5. The dental hygienist's non-linguistic communication showed a positive correlation with reliance and satisfaction(p=0.000). Conclusions : When considering the result above, it is necessary to develop the teaching method and material to educate the communication ability of dental manpower. It is necessary to reinforce the curriculum of dental hygienics and the education of dental hygienist to perform effective, smooth communication between dental hygienists.
Objectives : The aim of this study was to investigate factors associated with turnover intention on public health dental hygienists. Methods : A total 235 public health dental hygienist completed a questionnaire on attitudes related to their job position and sociodemographic status. Results : In total 82.5% of the respondents have experienced a job transfer. Their children and job stress strongly affect turnover intention. Turnover intention was correlated with empowerment, organizational commitment, job satisfaction, burnout and job stress. Using multiple regression analysis, the effects of job stress, children, organizational commitment, job satisfaction, career were satistically significant. Conclusions : The study showed strong relationship between turnover intention and job stress and their children. They had positive attitude for their job position and satisfied with their job. They experienced the stress on their job but had little turnover intention.
The purpose of this study was to identify the factors associated with medical care utilization, the level of recognition, satisfaction, revisit and recommendation after implementing the expanded health insurance coverage of dental scaling. A questionnaire survey was conducted and analyzed among 608 adults living in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do April 1st to 30th, 2014. The results of the survey are as follows: 76.9% of the respondents know the expanded health insurance coverage, which is influenced by educational background and monthly income. The level of satisfaction, revisit and recommendation intention is affected meaningfully by educational background. Two factors, high school graduate or less and dental hygienist, meaningfully affect patients' satisfaction with scaling, and recommendation from others and Internet searching contribute to revisit. High school graduate or less is also one of the factors affecting the intention of recommendation, along with recommendation from others, Internet searching, scaling by a dental hygienist, and oral hygiene education before scaling. Summing up the results, patient's satisfaction and intention to recommend are high when dental hygienists provide oral hygiene instruction prior to scaling. This study suggests that dental hygienists help patients feel comfortable before treatment by building rapport with them. In addition, it is required that consistent efforts for quality improvement in scaling be sustained, that the patient's needs be identified to increase their satisfaction with scaling, and that studies to verify relevant factors be conducted.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to improve the practice level on dental hygienists'infection prevention by examining the actual condition of dental hygienists'infection control and analyzing factors of having influence upon this. Methods : A questionnaire survey was carried out from July 18, 2011 to August 26 targeting dental hygienists who work at medical institutions where are located in Daegu, Busan and Ulsan Metropolitan Cities and Gyeongsangnam buk-do. After then, the following conclusions were obtained. Results : 1. As a result of surveying practice by item in the practice level of infection prevention, the items with high practice level in the management of infectious diseases were surveyed to be 12 months(89.6%) for health-checkup cycle and to be having experience of vaccination(78.0%) for hepatitis type B. The items with high practice level in the management and practice of washing hands were indicated to be in order of regularly paper towel(87.7%) and hands cleaning after regular medical examination(80.5%). In the item of the practice on wearing and managing individual protection equipment, regularly wearing(93.1%) rubber globes given washing implements was indicated to be high. 2. As a result of analyzing working career, working institution, working region, and practice level of infectious-disease management, the appearance of fulfilling infection control guidelines at medical institution and the experience of education for infection control were indicated to have difference depending on working institution. Regularly health checkup was indicated to have difference depending on respondents' working career and working institution. 3. The whole average in the practice level of infection prevention according to working career, working institution, and working region was indicated to be 2.55 out of 3-point perfection. 4. Wearing latex gloves was indicated to have statistically significant difference depending on working institution(p<0.001) and working region(p<0.001). The exchange of latex gloves every patient and the use of paper apron had statistically significant difference depending on working region(p<0.001). 5. As a result of comparing the frequency of using protection equipment for preventing infection according to the management of infectious diseases, the statistically significant difference was shown depending on the appearance of infection control guidelines at medical institution(p<0.001), the appearance of having experience of health checkup(p<0.01), and the appearance of having experience of vaccination for hepatitis type B(p<0.05). Conclusions : The above-mentioned findings showed that the denture satisfaction of the denture-wearing senior citizens was linked to their subjective oral health awareness. Therefore it will be possible to improve denture-wearing elderly people's quality of life when oral health plans geared toward boosting their denture satisfaction are carried out.
Objectives : A precedent research has documented that indoor air pollution is closely associated with increased the risk of symptom and decreased in job satisfaction. This study was conducted in an effort to assess the relationship of indoor air quality to self-perceived symptom and satisfied with working environment. Methods : This research is based on self-filling survey which 393 dental hygienists who work in seoul and Jeon-nam area participated on October 2010 through January 2011. This survey was compared and analyzed about the level of satisfaction and subjective symptom by the indoor air quality that dental office's working environment. Results : The result of satisfaction degree of hospital working environment was pretty low about office air. Most people mentioned that they were sore and dull all over the back, shoulder, and neck. Also, they were drowsy and exhausted in work place. Conclusions : In conclusion, it is need to improve their quality of life and mental health by developing proper air conditioning system and using one in their work place.
Objectives: This study was conducted to promote the value of field practice courses by installing an efficient field practice program through understanding the relationship between career decision/ behavior and the pre-/post satisfaction of dental hygiene students in field practice. Methods: The subjects of the study were students in Gyeongnam and Busan majoring in dental hygiene, from which 218 questionnaires were obtained from 23 November 2015 to 30 July 2016. Results: In terms of career decision/ behavior, the post-satisfaction scores in ideas about their major, about whether it was helpful to selecting their speciality and positive impression of dental hygienists, interest and understanding in training course were significantly lower than the pre-satisfaction scores (p<0.05). Relationship between satisfaction in field training and career decision/ behavior following the field training, pre-/post-satisfaction on site-training content (r=0.371, p<0.01), pre-/post satisfaction in training instructions (r=0.267, p<0.01), and pre-/post-satisfaction in the training sites (r=0.436, p<0.01) were all proportionally correlated to the after-training career decision and behavior. Conclusions: It is necessary for training instructors to maintain close relationships with the students in field practice program courses. In advance, it is expected to promote students' satisfaction in field practice and serve as a starting point where students can build self-esteem as a future dental hygienist by positively influencing their career decisions and behaviors.
Objectives : Five years have passed since the departments of dental hygiene with four-year term released their graduates. It is necessary to investigate concordance between desired career and current job and job satisfaction in dental hygienists according to graduation term. Accordingly, a survey on concordance between desired career and current job and job satisfaction in dental hygienists according to graduation term was conducted to obtain a basis necessary for providing right job consciousness to students of departments of dental hygiene. Methods : Of departments of dental hygiene nationwide, a total of four departments consisting of two departments with 3-year term and two departments with 4-year term were randomly selected. Of 683 graduates for 2006-10 of the selected departments, 163 graduates who agreed to participate in this study through telephone and e-mail were chosen as subjects. The data of 159 graduates were analyzed except for 4 graduates who did not respond to job satisfaction. The questionnaire consisted of a total of 17 questions: 5 general questions such as graduation term, and current job and salary, 2 questions for desired career at the time of entrance and graduation, and 10 questions for the satisfaction of current job and working environments. Concordance between the desired career at the time of entrance and graduation and current job was calculated using Kappa-value. A cross analysis was conducted to investigate job satisfaction according to general features and graduation term. A statistical significance was examined using $X^2$-test (p<0.05). Results : The Kappa-value for concordance between the desired career at the time of graduation and the current job was 0.288, showing slightly low concordance. In particular, the Kappa-value was 0.089 in the graduates of departments of dental hygiene with 3-year term, which showed significantly low concordance. The job satisfaction of the graduates was 49.1%, which was higher in the graduates with 4-year term than in the graduates with 3-year term, but was statistically insignificant (p>0.05). The detailed job satisfaction was all higher in the graduates with 4-year term than in the graduates with 3-year term except for distance to a working place, but a statistical significance was only found in working place recognition and regional status (p<0.05 ). Conclusions : This study showed differences in concordance between desired career and current job and job satisfaction between the graduates of departments of dental hygiene with 3-year term and the graduates of departments of dental hygiene with 4-year term. Therefore, the curriculum of department of dental hygiene is required to be more specifically applied in accordance with graduation term. In addition, a further study is required to develop specialized curriculums in accordance with graduation term.
The main objective of this study is to investigate the improvement of the quality of dental health based on the dental service satisfaction factors of the old dental prosthesis patients of more than 60 years of age who use the dental institutes including dental hospital, clinic, and public health center and to identify the interest in the dental prosthesis as changing paint. Across the country through a questionnaire survey of a question and answer type conducted by the trained dental hygienists or dentist's. Major results of the empirical analysis are as follows. 1. looking at variation of the variables of socio-demographic features of the respondents, the group of female, age distribution of 60-65, average monthly income of 0.5-1 million Won, and schooling background of college showed significant difference. And the prosthesis treatment in terms of the purpose of isiting a dental institute, and the dental clinic in terms of the type of visiting dental institute showed a remarkably significant difference. 2. looking at variation of variables of the general features of the respondents, a prosthesis satisfaction service in terms of age showed significant difference: a prosthesis satisfaction service, dental staffs' service and dental facilities' service in terms of average monthly income showed significant difference: the entire conditions except for the dental facilities' service in terms of schooling and general features showed significant difference: and in terms of the purpose of visiting dental institute, it showed no significant difference. In terms of a visiting dental institute, the prosthesis satisfaction service, dental facilities, overall level of satisfaction, result of treatment, word of mouth and revisit showed significant difference. 3. looking at variation of the variables of post-installation prosthesis satisfaction of the respondents, the prosthesis satisfaction service, dentist's dental service, staffs' service, dental facilities' service and revisit in terms of the prosthesis type: and the prosthesis satisfaction service, word of mouth, revisit and overall level of satisfaction from the perspective of serious concern showed significant difference. The prosthesis satisfaction service and dentist's service in terms of the solving the economic burden: and the entire variables in terms of dissatisfaction elements showed a similar level of significant difference 4. in regard to the satisfaction of dental service and the change of the recognition of prosthesis patients, it was revealed that the level of dental prosthesis satisfaction of the respondents was closely related to the dentist's service, staffs' service, and dental facilities' service. Finally, looking at the influence of the dental service on the treatment result, satisfaction, word of mouth, revisit and the overall satisfaction level, it was revealed that they had a great impact on the prosthesis satisfaction service.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of dental hygiene and students' academic achievement and their quality of life. Methods: A self administered questionnaire was used for third and fourth year dental hygienists which consisted of 423 female students. The data was analyzed using SPSS ver.19.0. Results: The results of this study are as follows(p<0.01). First, the effect of academic achievement on quality of life was found to affect an ideal life, life satisfaction and the quality of maintaining a happy life (p<0.05). The correlations between objective academic achievements and the quality of life of the subjects were correlated in all items (p<0.01, p<0.05). Conclusion: To summarize the above results, in order to improve the quality of life for dental hygienists and students, it is necessary to take various measures in order for students to maintain a sense of pride in their various departments and to be able to concentrate on their respective studies.
The purpose of this study was to examine factors related to the satisfaction of dental service in college women. This survey was conducted between March 14, 2014 and April 21, 2014 to investigate the influence on dental care satisfaction in college women. Data were obtained from 412 college women of some areas. At the conclusion of this investigation, as for the correlation analysis between variables affecting college women satisfaction, every variables showed significantly positive relation, and the relation between satisfaction of dental hygienist and satisfaction of hospital environment had the strongest positive relation (p<0.01). To increase the satisfaction in dental clinic, it is necessary to provide the continuing education programs for dental service to dental clinic worker.
