The present study attempts to develop the theoretical model for the damage estimation of offshore tubular members which are subjected to the accidental impact loads due to collision, falling objects and so on. For the reasons of the simplicity of the problem being considered, however, this paper postulates that the accidental load can be approximated to be the quasi-static one, in which dynamic effects are negelcted. Based upon the theoretical and experimental results which are obtained from the present study as well as the existing literature, the load-displacement relations taking the interaction effect between the local denting and the global bending deformation into account are presented in the explicit form when the concentrated lateral load acts on the tubular member whose end condition is supposed to be rotation ally free and axially restrained, in which membrane forces develop. Thus, the practical estimation of damage deformation for the local denting and the global bending damage of tubular members against the accidental loads is possible and also the collision absorption capability of the member can be calculated by performing the integration of the area below the given load-displacement curves, provided that all the energy is dissipated to the deforming the member itself.

Several types of steel structures which are employed in offshore petroleum activities are constructed with tubular members. These structures are usually subjected to various types of loads such as normal functional loads and environmental loads. Furthermore, accidental loads may also act on the leg or bracing members due to supply boat collisions and objects droppings from platform decks. The extent of damage caused by these loads ranges from total collapse of the structure to small damage which may not have serious consequence at the time of accident. To make optimal design decisions regarding structural safety and economical efficiency, it is very important to be able to assess the influence of damages on the performance of damaged structural members. In the End report, a series of calculations is performed to study the effects of different parameters on the load carrying capacity of such damaged members under pure bending. And the results of analysis are compared with experiment results.

Pressure vessels by composite materials were damaged sometimes during manufacturing or assembling. The state and the size of damage by low-velocity tests were investigated in this paper. Impactors of various masses and various tup shapes were dropped freely in the range of 120mm height to 700mm height. Compared with hemispherical tup of 12.7mm diameter, for hemispherical tup of 25.4mm diameter the size of surface dent was smaller but the size of delamination was bigger.

The purpose of this research is to establish the load-shortening relationship for undamaged members and damaged members with pin-ended support. An analytical method based on the numerical integration was proposed to obtain the ascending and descending branch of load-deformation behavior. The analysis was performed by using the momentthrust-curvature relationship including the effect of cross-sectional distortion. A parametric study regarding the the influence of damages on the ultimate strength of tubular members was also performed. Several experiments for the corroded, fabricated tubular members with dent were performed and the results were compared with the proposed method.

Telematics services include automatic location tracking for emergency rescue, which is available for use in case of a car accident due to falling off roadways. This paper presents a simulation study on how far a car will fall before it hits the ground if it drops off of a roadway due to an accident or a natural disaster. The greatest horizontal distance the falling car can travel is presented in this paper, based on the assumption that air resistance as well as the direction and degree of acceleration due to gravity is negligible. This paper also presents the depth of the dent caused by the car sinking into the ground, the time it took for the car to fall free, and the velocity at which it travelled and horizontal distance it traveled. In this paper, the damage done to cars that crash into the ground and the dangers thereof are graphically represented.

Offshore structures are exposed to higher probability of collision with ship because of their limited mobility. In general, the consequence of the collision is reported to be relatively small and it is desirable to consider minor collisions in the design stage. It is important to have a comprehensive understanding of the dynamic responses of a tubular, their main member, under collision to design offshore structure against possible accidents. It is needed to estimate the probable extent of damage of a tubular, depth of dent, affected by the time history of impact load in ender to design a tubular strong enough for collision. In this paper, dynamic behaviors of a tubular due to the lateral impact are investigated through the numerical simulations with hydrocode DYNA3D, a three dimensional elasto-plastic large deformation impact contact problem analyzing program.
Oxidative stress due to reactive oxygen species (ROS) can cause oxidative damage to cells. Cells have a number of defense mechanisms to protect themselves from the toxicity of ROS. Mitochondria are especially important in the oxidative stress as ROS have been found to be constantly generated as an endogen threat. Mitochondrial defense depends mainly on super-oxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx), whereas microsomal defense depends on catalase (CAT), which is an enzyme abundant in microsomes. SOD removes superoxide anions by converting them to $H_2O$$_2$, which can be rapidly converted to water by CAT and GPx. Also, GPx converts hydroperoxide (ROOH) into oxidized-glutathione (GSSG). Ovariectomized (OVX) rats are used as an oxidative stress model. An ovariectomy increased the levels of MDA, one of the end-products in the lipid peroxidative process, and decreased levels of the antioxidative enzymes; SOD, CAT and GPx. However, Chondroitin sulfate (CS) decreased the levels of MDA, but increased the levels of SOD, CAT and GPx in a dose-depen-dent manner. Moreover, inflammation and cirrhosis of liver tissue in CS- treated rats were sig-nificantly decreased. These results suggest that CS might be a potential candidate as an anti oxidative reagent.

Loads on offshore structures are largely transferred to the bracing members in the form of axial forces. The detrimental effects of imperfections on compressive strength are well recognized. Damage in the members of offshore structures would significantly affect the compressive behavior of the members. As a result, such damages may also affect the ability of the structure to withstand the functional and environmental loads. It is important to be able to assess the residual strength of damaged members quickly and accurately. This will help operators to make the decision whether the member has to be repaired or not. In this study, a series of calculation is performed to study the effects of different parameters on the behavior of such damaged members under axial load. And the results of analysis are compared with those of experiment.

As computer performance improves, research using deep learning are being actively carried out in various fields. Recently, deep learning technology has been applying to the safety evaluation for structures. In particular, the internal blades of a turbine structure requires experienced experts and considerable time to detect surface damages because of the difficulty of separation of the blades from the structure and the dark environmental condition. This study proposes a Faster R-CNN deep learning model that can detect surface damages on the internal blades, which is one of the primary elements of the turbine structure. The deep learning model was trained using image data with dent and punch damages. The image data was also expanded using image filtering and image data generator techniques. As a result, the deep learning model showed 96.1% accuracy, 95.3% recall, and 96% precision. The value of the recall means that the proposed deep learning model could not detect the blade damages for 4.7%. The performance of the proposed damage detection system can be further improved by collecting and extending damage images in various environments, and finally it can be applicable for turbine engine maintenance.

For fitness-for-service analyses of underground natural gas pipelines, engineering assessment methods against possible defects need to be developed. The assessment methods for high pressure pipeline of KOGAS, was developed using the full size pipe burst tests and the finite element analysis. It included the defect assessment methods for a single and multi-corrosion, corrosion in girth welding part, corrosion in seam welding part, the mechanical damage defects as dent and gouge, crack and large plastic deformation of API 5L X65 pipe. In addition, we developed method to assess pipeline integrity by internal and external load to buried pipeline. Evaluation results were compared with other methods currently being applied to the gas pipeline. The program of Windows environment is made for easily using assessment methods. It provides a consistent user interface, so non-professional technician can easily and friendly use the FFS program from company intranet. Several evaluation programs is easily installed using one installer. Each program constitutes a common input interface and the output configuration program, and evaluation result store and can be recalled at any time. The FFS program based on independent evaluation method is used to evaluate the integrity and safety of KOGAS pipeline, and greatly contribute to safe and efficient operation of pipeline. This paper presents experimental, analytical and numerical investigations to develop the FFS methods for KOGAS pipeline, used as high pressure natural gas transmission pipeline within KOREA. Also, it includes the description of the integrated program for FFS methods.
