The influence of density differences on the mixing of the primary loop inventory and the Emergency Core Cooling (ECC) water in the downcomer of a Pressurised Water Reactor (PWR) was analyzed at the ROssendorf COolant Mixing (ROCOM) test facility. ROCOM is a 1:5 scaled model of a German PWR, and has been designed for coolant mixing studies. It is equipped with advanced instrumentation, which delivers high-resolution information for temperature or boron concentration fields. This paper presents a ROCOM experiment in which water with higher density was injected into a cold leg of the reactor model. Wire-mesh sensors measuring the tracer concentration were installed in the cold leg and upper and lower part of the downcomer. The experiment was run with 5% of the design flow rate in one loop and 10% density difference between the ECC and loop water especially for the validation of the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software ANSYS CFX. A mesh with two million control volumes was used for the calculations. The effects of turbulence on the mean flow were modelled with a Reynolds stress turbulence model. The results of the experiment and of the numerical calculations show that mixing is dominated by buoyancy effects: At higher mass flow rates (close to nominal conditions) the injected slug propagates in the circumferential direction around the core barrel. Buoyancy effects reduce this circumferential propagation. Therefore, density effects play an important role during natural convection with ECC injection in PWRs. ANSYS CFX was able to predict the observed flow patterns and mixing phenomena quite well.

The flow regimes for a Taylor-Couette flow with a stable, axial stratification in density are investigated using numerical simulation. The flow configuration identical to that in the experiment of Boubnov, et al. (1995) is considered in the present research. The main objectives of this investigation are to verify the experimental and numerical results carried out by Boubnov, et al. and Hua et al. (1997), respectively, and to further study the detailed flow fields and flow bifurcations. With increasing buoyancy frequency of the fluid (N), the stratification-dominated flow regime, called the S-regime, is observed. It is also confirmed that the important effect of an axial density stratification is to stabilize the flow field. The present numerical results are in good agreement with Boubnov, et al. and Hua et al.'s observations.

Flow patterns and its transitions in vertical two phase flow of air-water isothermal flow are identified objectively by void output signals and moments computed from the Probability Density Function which is associated with the statistical measurement for time average local void fractions using conductance probe. It has been shown that the probe output signals, PDF distributions and its moments are deterministic criteria of flow pattern and transition classification.
Management of the existing traffic network and understanding current traffic conditions is the most important and effective way to solve traffic congestion. This research investigates the status of Korea expressway through the Speed-Flow-Density diagram and finds the best suitable queueing model for each area. Dynamic structure in the queueing model enables us to reflect the structural change of the road in case of traffic congestion. To find the best model and estimate the parameters, we use the Newton-Raphson method. Finally, we examine the road efficiency in view of the optimal speed and density using the conditional distribution of speed and density of a S-F-D diagram.

Reverse electrodialysis (RED) is a technique to produce electricity from two feed water that has different salinity. Recently, RED has been considered the attractive technology because this new process has large global potential and possibility to generate energy from abundant but largely unused resources. To make RED an economically attractive technology, the optimization of operation condition should be developed. In this study, we investigate the relation of internal resistance to power density of RED. And the effect of sea water and fresh water flow rate on power density was confirmed. To minimize the internal resistance and to increase power density of RED, the ratio of sea water and fresh water flow rate was optimized. Experimental result show the best performance with $1.30W/m^2$ of power density at 1.7 flow ratio of seawater/freshwater.
The conditions for production of high cell density of Bifidobacterium longum were investigated and the cross-flow filtration system was used to remove the inhibitory metabolites, lactic acid and acetic acid. The maximum cell growth was observed with glucose as carbon source at the concentration of 50 g/l at $37^{\circ}C$ with the initial pH 6.5. When B. longum was cultured in a cross-flow filtration system, the maximum cell growth was observed at a dilution rate(D) of $0.31\;h^{-1}$ and the dry cell weight was 16.4 g/l($3.5{\times}10^{10}\;cell/ml$), which was about four times higher than that obtained in the batch culture with pH control.

An immersed boundary method for simulation of density-stratified flows has been developed and applied to computation of viscous flows past three different types of obstacle under table density stratification, namely laminar flows past a vertical barrier, a cosine hill, and a sphere, respectively. Density forcing is introduced on the body surface or inside the body. Significant changes in flow characteristics are observed depending on Fr. The numerical results are in good agreement with other authors' experimental and numerical results currently available, and shed light on computation of density-stratified flows in complex geometries.
This paper treats with some of plasma jet behaviors under magnetic field for the purpose of controlling important characteristics of plasma jet in the practices of material manufacturings. Under the existence and non-existence of magnetic field, the pressure distribution, flame length, stability and noise of plasma jet are comparatively evaluated in respect of such parameters as are current, gap of electrode, quantity of argon flow, magnetic flux density, diameter and length of nozzle. The results are as follows: 1) the pressure, the length and the noise of plasma jet rise gradually with the increase of are current, and have high values under identical arc current as the diameter of nozzle increases, but reverse phenomenon tends to appear in the noise. 2) The pressure, the flame length and the noise increase with the increased quantity of argon flow, and the rising slope of noise is particularly steep. Under magnetic field, the quantity of argon flow in respect of flame length has the critical value of 80(cfh). 3) The pressure and length of flame decrease with small gradient value as the length of gap increases, but the noise tends to grow according to the increase of nozzle diameter. 4) The pressure and the length of jet flame decrease inversly with the increase of magnetic flux density, which have one critical value in the 100 amps of arc current and two values in 50 amps. The pressure of jet flame can be below atomospher pressure in strong magnetic field. 5) "The constriction length of nozzle has respectively the critical value of 6(mm) for pressure and 23(mm) for the length of flame. 6) Fluctuations in the wave form of voltage become greater with the increase of argon flow and magnetic flux density, but tends to decrease as arc current increases, having the frequency range of 3-8KHz. The wave form of noise changes almost in parallel with that of voltage and its changing value increases with argon flow, arc current and magnetic flux density, having the freuqency range of 6-8KHz. The fluctuation of jet presurre is reduced with the increase of argon flow and magnetic flux density and grows with arc current.rent.
Transient and asymmetric density distributions have been investigated by three-dimensional digital speckle tomography with a novel integration method. Multiple CCD images captured movements of speckles in three angles of view simultaneously because the flows were asymmetric and unsteady. The speckle movements which have been formed by a ground glass between no flow and downward butane flow from a circular half opening have been calculated by a cross-correlation tracking method so that those distances can be transferred to deflection angles of laser rays for density gradients. A novel integration method has been developed to obtain projection data from the deflection angles for the speckle tomography.'The three-dimensional density fields have been reconstructed from the accurate projection values by a real-time multiplicative algebraic reconstruction technique (MART) with the developed integration method.

In this study, the ecological flow rate of the Zacco playtypus habitat was simulated based on the Instream Flow Incremental Methodology (IFIM) in reachs of urban and natural stream using the habitat suitability index (HSI) of the probability density function (PDF). To apply this method, PHABSIM model was used in this study. However, in this study, the HSI of the probability density function was developed by adjusting the parameters of the PDF based on Kang (2010) HSI. As a result, the normal distribution is closest to the ecological flow rate of the Kang (2010) in the urban stream. However, the two-parameter log-pearson distribution tended to be the closest in the natural stream. The ecological flow rate was simulated by the HSI and the reach of stream with the PDF. Based on the comparison of simulation results, we propose an ecological flow rate estimation method using probabilistic method.
