  • The purpose of this study was to observe the effects of the periodontal ligament on the healing and the formation of alveolar bone in the extraction socket, when this ligament had artificially remained in the socket during the tooth removal. Twenty rats aged 4 weeks were used and devided into the control groups (10) and the experimental groups (10) in this study. The maxillary right and left first molars were extracted in both groups. In the experimental groups the periodontal ligament was remained in the extraction sockets using 0.4% ${\beta}-aminopropionitrile$, and in the control the periodontal ligament was completely removed by curettage. At 1, 3, 5, 7 and 14 days after the tooth extraction, rats in both groups were serially sacrificed. And the specimens were prepared with Hematoxylin-Eosin stain for the light microscopic evaluation. The results of this study were as follows ; 1. On 1 day, the periodontal ligament was only found in the extraction socket walls of the experimental groups, and there was not the distinguishable difference between the control and the experimental groups. 2. On 3 days, there were more collagen fibers and the appearance of higher cellular density in the experimental groups than in the control. And the cells and collagen of the periodontal ligament were so actively proliferated and synthesized that invaded into the connective tissue of the extraction sockets in the experimental groups. 3. In the experimental groups, the trabecular bone was formed on the basal and lateral bone surface on 5 days. However, there was not the new bone forming appearance in the control groups at this time. 4. On 7 days, the trabecular bone was formed in the control groups. 5. On 14 days, the extraction sockets were almost entirely filled with the bony trabeculae in both groups. But, compared to the control group, the experimental groups showed the prominent differences in the amount & the density of the new bone formed. In conclusion, it was suggested that the residual periodontal ligament tissue in the extraction socket will play a major role as the important cell source in the healing and the new bone formation of the extraction socket.

  • The phase separation of low-alkali borosilicate glass with the composition of $6.25Na_2O$.$18.75B_2O_3$.$75.00SiO_2$(mole%) substituting $Li_2O$ for $Na_2O$ was studied. The phase separation in the temperature range of transformation was examined with various heating temperatures and soaking times. Durability to water, thermal expansion and specific density of the specimen were investigated and the microstructure of the separated phase was also observed by transmission electron micrograph techniques. The maximum alkali extraction result with the best phase separation effect was obtained when $Na_2O$ of the base glass was replaced with $1.88Li_2O$ (mole %) and electron micrograph of carbon film replica of $1.88Li_2O$$4.37Na_2O$.$18.75B_2O_3$.$75.00SiO_2$ (mole %) glass showed that the glass consisted of homogeneous two phases. The minimum specific density was shown with the specimen treated at 57$0^{\circ}C$ and it was also shown that the longer the treating time the lower the specific density. The apparent activation energies of approximately 45 kcal/mole by the alkali extraction and 43kcal/mole by the thermal expansion method were derived from the Arrhenius plots, respectively.

  • Hydrodynamic properties have been investigated for promising extraction systems: $0.05mol\;L^{-1}$ solutions of di(N-ethyl-4-ethylanilide) of 2,2'-bipyridine-6,6'-dicarboxylic acid, di(N-ethyl-4-fluoroanilide) of 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylic acid and di(N-ethyl-4-hexylanilide) of 2,2'-bipyridine-6,6'-dicarboxylic acid in meta-nitrobenzotrifluoride (F-3) or trifluoromethylphenyl sulfone (FS-13) diluents. To evaluate the perspectives for their use as extraction mixtures at the final stage of the nuclear fuel cycle, the change in density, viscosity, surface tension, and phase separation rate under irradiation with accelerated electrons was studied. The concentrations of extractants in the irradiated mixtures have been determined and the radiation-chemical yields have been calculated. Irradiation significantly decreases the phase separation rate at the stages of extraction and back extraction for all the studied systems. The viscosity of the DYP-7 solution in FS-13 increase above the values suitable for its use in extraction processes.

  • For fast capacitance computation, a simple mesh refinement technique on MLFMA(Multi-Level Fast Multipole Algorithm) is proposed The triangular meshes are refined mainly in the area which has heavy charge density. The technique is applied to the capacitance extraction of three dimensional conductors. The results show good convergence with comparable accuracy. An adaptive technique concerned with MLFMA is useful to reduce computation time and the number of elements without additional computational efforts in large three dimensional problems.

  • Solubilities of urea-crystallized tuna oil methyl esters in supercritical carbon dioxide were determined by a flow through extraction reactor. Experimental results obtained under a quasi-equlibrium condition showed that at 150 bar, solubilities of the esters in supercritical $CO_2$ were 0.075, 0.028 and 0.006(w/w) at $40^{\circ}C,\;60^{\circ}C\;and\;80^{\circ}C$, respectively. In the pressure and temperature ranges $(100{\sim}200bar\;and\;40{\sim}80^{\circ}C)$, the solubility increased with the density of $CO_2$. However, selectivity of supercritical carbon dioxide on the extracted compounds was much better at low density than at high density. Supercritical fractionation with a temperature gradient $(50{\sim}75^{\circ}C)$ resulted in concentrates of EPA and DHA in purities of 12% and 85%, respectively.

  • Recently, a lot of researches about mobile vision using Personal Digital Assistant(PDA) has been attempted. Many CPUs for PDA are integer CPUs, which have no floating-computation component. It results in slow computation of the algorithms peformed by vision system or image processing, which have much floating-computation. In this paper, in order to resolve this weakness, we propose the Client(PDA)/server(PC) architecture which is connected to each other with a wireless LAN, and we construct the system with pipelining processing using two CPUs of the Client(PDA) and the Server(PC) in image sequence. The Client(PDA) extracts tentative text regions using Edge Density(ED). The Server(PC) uses both the Multi-1.aver Perceptron(MLP)-based texture classifier and Connected Component(CC)-based filtering for a definite text extraction based on the Client(PDA)'s tentativel99-y extracted results. The proposed method leads to not only efficient text extraction by using both the MLP and the CC, but also fast running time using Client(PDA)/server(PC) architecture with the pipelining processing.

  • Deep-learning-based image segmentation is one of the most widely employed lane detection approaches, and it requires a post-process for extracting the key points on the lanes. A general approach for key-point extraction is using a fixed threshold defined by a user. However, finding the best threshold is a manual process requiring much effort, and the best one can differ depending on the target data set (or an image). We propose a novel key-point extraction algorithm that automatically adapts to the target image without any manual threshold setting. In our adaptive key-point extraction algorithm, we propose a line-level normalization method to distinguish the lane region from the background clearly. Then, we extract a representative key point for each lane at a line (row of an image) using a kernel density estimation. To check the benefits of our approach, we applied our method to two lane-detection data sets, including TuSimple and CULane. As a result, our method achieved up to 1.80%p and 17.27% better results than using a fixed threshold in the perspectives of accuracy and distance error between the ground truth key-point and the predicted point.

  • This paper describes a normalization of character which is contained in the character recognition process. Line and dot density is computed on input character image and then image mapping is executed into destination. Also recognition is processed using overlap-partitioning of character image and extraction of 4 directional feature primitives. The validity of proposed nonlinear normalization algorithm could be verified by increment of recognition rate.

  • We have investigated the light extraction efficiency of large-area OLED lighting panels with a microlens array (MLA) or external scattering layer (ESL) by ray tracing simulation. The application of MLA and ESL to transparent OLEDs (TOLEDs) with an auxiliary metal electrode is also studied. It is found that MLA shows higher light extraction efficiency, compared with ESL. However, we have demonstrated that ESL is more suitable for TOLEDs having dual-sided equal light emission. Namely, equal light emission from the front and rear surfaces of TOLED can be achieved by increasing the scattering particle density of ESL. To compensate for a loss in light emission induced by auxiliary metal electrode, we come out with an OLED structure partially covered with MLA at the outer surface of glass substrate, which is aligned with metal electrode. With this scheme, it is observed that the light extraction efficiency can be boosted more than 20% from opaque OLED and 50% from transparent OLED.

  • This study focused on the development on functional shoe apparatus so that the appropriate impact can be applied to the feet in order to improve the density of mineral bone at lower limbs. The model with structure proposed in this study had an effective stress about 20 to 100% higher by comparing that of the model without it among most of 15 bone extraction points. Though there is a limitation that the finite element analysis data from the human body model are not the value of mineral bone densities by measuring directly but the effective bone stresses against impact, the proposed structure is designed to influence the increase of bone mass and improve the density of mineral bone by effecting the improvement of the density of mineral bone actually.
