  • Seven new species in two genera, Sarcotragus and Bergquistia (Demospongiae: Dictyoceratida: Irciniidae), are described from Jeju Island, Korea. The separation of the two genera was made on basis of morphological evidence in skeletal structure, especially fasciculation of primary fibres and filament thickness. Two new species in the genus Sarcotragus and five new species in the genus Bergquistia are compared with other reported species.

  • Eleven new species of two genera, Psammocinia and Ircinia (Demospongiae: Dictyoceratida: Irciniidae) are described from Gageo Island, Ulleung Island and Jeju Island, South Korea. The separation of these two genera was made on basis of morphological evidence, especially skeletal structure with foreign debris. Six new species of Psammocinia and five new species of Ircinia were added to known fauna. All skeletal fibres are very irregular.

  • new species Iotrochota rutzleri n. sp. (Demospongiae: Poecilosclerida: Iotrochotidae) was collected from intertidal zone, Sinyangri, Seongsanpo, Jejudo Island, Korea during 2008-2009. Iotrochota rutzleri n. sp. is similar to I. baculifera Ridley, 1884 in composition of spicules and skeletal structure. However, it is different in size of spicules, growth form and colour. All spicules of this new species are smaller than those of the latter.

  • Sponges of the family Spongiidae are poorly known in Korean waters. This paper describes Hippospongia bergquistia n. sp. of the family Spongiidae (Demospongiae: Dictyoceratida) collected from Moselpo, Jejudo Island, Korea in 2007. This new species has a cavernous construction, rare pseudo-tertiary fibre, and rare primary fibres.

  • A new species of the genus Biemna(Demospongiae: Poecilosclerida: Desmacellidae), Biemna hongdoensis n. sp. was collected from Hongdo Island, Korea by SCUBA diving in 2004. B. hongdoensis n. sp. is closely related to B. megalosigma Hentshel, 1912 in their spicules, but the styles and sigmas of new species are larger than B. megalosigma's and microxeas and raphides of new species are smaller than B. megalosigma's. Also, new species has not spheres. The stubby conulose are distributed throughout the surface of new species.

  • The identified marine Tetractinomorpha consist of 6 species in 5 genera, 5 faimilesand 3 orders. Of those Two species, Poecillastra wondoensis and Jaspis wondoensis, are new to science and are described with detailed illustrations. Four species, Craniella ellipsoida. Discodermia tuberosa, Discodermia panoplia, and Stelletta validissima orthotriaena , are new to Korea and are remarked with illustrations.

  • Ten new species of genus Sarcotragus (Demospongiae: Dictyoceratida: Irciniidae) are described from Geomundo Island and Jejudo Island, Korea. All new species of the Sarcotragus are distinguished from the other reported species of Sarcotragus by the skeletal structure, especially fasciculate primary fibres. The characters of genus Sarcotragus have cylindrical primary fascicles filled with wads of filaments or flattened fascicles. All of the primary fibres are not cored with foreign debris. Secondary fibres have slightly fasciculate branch or plastic-like web. They are all not cored with foreign debris. All skeletal fibres are very irregular. The surface is covered with loose or tight filamentous membrane.

  • Nine new species of genus Ircinia (Demospongiae: Dictyoceratida: Irciniidae) from Jejudo Island, Korea are described. All of the new species are distinguished from the others reported species of Ircinia by the skeletal structure, especially massive fasciculate primary fibres. The characters of genus Ircinia have primary fibres cored with foreign debris and no cored secondary fibres. Primary fibres are not easy to distinguish from secondary fibres if they are not cored. Secondary web has perforated plate or meshed net. All new species have loosely arranged skeletal fibres network.

  • A new species of the genus Halichondria (Eumastia) maraensis n. sp. (Demospongiae: Halichondrida: Halichondriidae) was collected from West Marado Island, Daejeong-eup, Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do Island, Korea during the period of Dec. 2006 to Feb. 2007 by a fishing net (60-80 m in depth). Halichondria (E.) maraensis n. sp. is similar to H. (E.) sitiens (Schmidt, 1870) in the type of the spicules. However they differ in spicules size and conical fistules at the surface. Oxeas of the new species are smaller and thicker than those of H. (E.) sitiens. Surface conules of the new species is not transparent, and has no oscules at the terminal short conules but H. (E.) sitiens has hollow papillae and terminal oscules.
