  • This paper presents real-time Direct Current (DC) network analysis applications for operation of DC distribution system or DC microgrid. These applications are installed on central Energy Management System (EMS) and provide solutions of DC network operation. To analysis DC distribution network, this paper proposes composition and sequence of applications. Algorithm of applications is presented in this paper. Demonstration tests are performed on DC distribution site in Gochang Power Testing Center of Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO). To verify the performance, developed DC applications installed on EMS. Scenarios for demonstration test of voltage control are presented. Finally, measured data, application output data and simulation data (by PSCAD/EMTDC) are compared and analyze accuracy of applications.

  • Some essential components in nuclear power plants are periodically inspected using non-destructive examinations, for example ultrasonic, eddy current and radiographic examinations, in order to determine their integrity. These components include nuclear power plant items such as vessels, containments, piping systems, pumps, valves, tubes and core support structure. Steam generator tubes have an important safety role because they constitute one of the primary barriers between the radioactive and non-radioactive sides of the nuclear power plant. There is potential that if a tube bursts while a plant is operating, radioactivity from the primary coolant system could escape directly to the atmosphere. Therefore, in-service inspections are critical in maintaining steam generator tube integrity. In general, the eddy current testing is widely used for the inspection of steam generator tubes due to its high inspection speed and flaw detectability on non-magnetic tubes. However, it is not easy to analyze correctly eddy current signals because they are influenced by many factors. Therefore, the performance of eddy current data analysts for steam generator tubing should be demonstrated comprehensively. In Korea, the performance of steam generator tubing analysts has been demonstrated using the Qualified Data Analyst program. This paper describes the performance demonstration program for steam generator tubing analysts and its implementation results in Korea. The pass rate of domestic analysts for this program was 71.4%.

  • The compacted bentonite buffer is one of the most important components in an engineered barrier system (EBS) to dispose of high-level radioactive waste (HLW) produced by nuclear power generation. The compacted bentonite buffer has a crucial role in protecting the disposal canister against the external impact and penetration of groundwater, so it has to satisfy the thermal-hydraulic-mechanical requirements. Even though there have been various researches on the investigation of thermal-hydraulic properties, few studies have been conducted to evaluate mechanical properties for the compacted bentonite buffer. For this reason, this paper conducted a series of unconfined compression tests and obtained mechanical properties such as unconfined compressive strength, elastic modulus, and void ratio of Korean compacted bentonite specimens with different water content and dry density values. The unconfined compressive strength and elastic modulus increased, and the Poisson's ratio decreased a little with increasing dry density. It showed that unconfined compressive strength and elastic modulus were proportional to dry density. However, there was not a remarkable correlation between mechanical properties and water content.

  • The $ACP^1$ is under development for effective management of spent fuel by converting $UO_2$ into U-metal. For demonstration of this process, $\alpha-\gamma$ type new hotcell was built in the $IMEF^2$ basement. To secure against radiation hazard, this facility needs radiation monitoring system which will observe the entire operating area before the hotcell and service area at back of it. This system consists of 7 parts; Area Monitor for $\gamma$-ray, Room Air Monitor for particulate and iodine in both area, Hotcell Monitor for hotcell inside high radiation and rear door interlock, Duct Monitor for particulate of outlet ventilation, Iodine Monitor for iodine of outlet duct, CCTV for watching workers and material movement, Server for management of whole monitoring system. After installation and test of this, radiation monitoring system will be expected to assist the successful ACP demonstration.

  • A sodium-cooled demonstration fast reactor with the KALIMER-600 as a reference plant is under design by KAERI. The safety grade decay heat removal system (DHRS), which is important to mitigate design basis accidents, was changed in the reactor design. A loss of heat sink and a vessel leak in design basis accidents were simulated using the MARS-LMR system transient analysis code on two plant systems. In the analyses, the DHRS of KALIMER-600 had a weakness due to elevation of the overflow path for the DHRS operation, while it was proved that the DHRS of the demonstration reactor had superior heat transfer characteristics due to the simplified heat transfer mechanism.

  • This study is describes thermal performance of solar cooling and hot water for demonstration system with ETSC(Evacuated tubular solar collector) installed at Seo-gu culture center of Kwanju. Control condition for solar cooling and hot water system is changed by connection of auxiliary heater. Demonstration system was connected to central air conditioning system. Demonstration system was operated by two types. First type(A) was operated to cooling and hot water supply in that order. Second type(B) was operated to hot water supply and cooling in that order. As a result. it was indicated that the total solar energy consumption of (A) was 799 MJ and the solar energy consumption rate for the cooling and hot water supply was 70% and 30% respectively. Total solar energy consumption of (b) was 898 MJ and the solar energy consumption rate for the cooling and hot water supply was 31% and 69% respectively.
