Purpose: This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of a dementia education program for Korean older adults who resided in community. Methods: The research adopted the non-equivalent control group pretestposttest design. A total of 66 older adults completed the study (31 older adults in the experimental group and 35 in the control group). The Experimental group participated in a six-session dementia education program for three weeks. The effects of the dementia education program were evaluated using the measures of knowledge of dementia and attitude toward dementia. Data were analyzed using independent sample t-test with SPSS/WIN 18.0. Results: There was a significant change in the knowledge of dementia in the experimental group (t=2.75, p=.008). Although there was an increase in attitude toward dementia in the experimental group, the change was not statistically significant (t=1.26, p=.212). Conclusion: The results indicated that the dementia education program is effective in improving the knowledge of dementia among community-dwelling older adults. There is a need to develop more effective dementia education programs designed to improve older adults' attitude toward dementia. Further research is needed using a highly rigorous research methodology.

Background & Objectives: The purpose of this study was to offer basic materials for the correct comprehension of dementia and of health education needs by comparing the students' recognition level of dementia. Methods: Three health major departments(the department of nursing science, physical therapy and occupational therapy) and three non-health major departments(the department of English, early childhood education and biology) were randomized in universities. And the 180 juniors students involved in this study and their level of educational experience and of recognition of dementia was analyzed. Results: There weas no difference about recognition of social welfare services between the students of health departments and non-health departments, but there were differences between them about other health education needs. Conclusion: Students of non-health majors who learn the subjects unrelated to dementia should get an education on dementia so that they can understand and recognize health education needs on dementia.

Purpose : This study was conducted to examine the knowledge of, attitude toward, and education requirements for dementia that students majoring in occupational therapy have and to determine the correlations between knowledge of and attitude toward dementia according to the degree of dementia education provided in a university. Methods : From January 2021 to February 2021, 150 students majoring in occupational therapy in Daejeon, Jeollanam-do, and Gyeongsangnam-do were enrolled in this study and surveyed using a questionnaire. The students who participated understood the purpose of this study and agreed to participate. For data analysis, SPSS version 20.0 was used. Results : The subjects scored, on average, 18.64 ± 3.23 of 30 points Knowledge of dementia. The subjects had many correct answers in the items on dementia assessment, diagnosis, and treatment and care, whereas they had few correct answers in the items on the risk factors of dementia. In terms of attitude toward dementia, the subjects scored 37.38 ± 8.32 on the stability subscale and 48.26 ± 9.11 on the knowledge subscale; thus, they had higher scores on the knowledge subscale. The subjects had high educational requirements regarding the cognitive activity and activities of daily living of occupational therapy for dementia. The subjects' knowledge of dementia had a positive correlation with their attitude toward dementia according to the degree of dementia education (p<.05). Conclusion : The students majoring in occupational therapy had high educational requirements of the cognitive activity and activity of daily living for dementia. When they had more education of dementia, their attitude toward dementia had a positive correlation with their knowledge of dementia. Therefore, it is considered that students majoring in occupational therapy need to have professional education in their university curriculum.

Purpose: This study was done to evaluate the effects of dementia education program on knowledge and attitude toward dementia among nursing students. Methods: A non-equivalent control group pre-post test design with an experimental group (n=35) and a control group (n=32) was used. The program is composed of lectures, preparation and practice for running the program, The effect of program was evaluated using measures of knowledge and attitude toward dementia. The attitude toward dementia was significantly more positive in the experimental group than in the control group. Conclusions: The study findings indicate that dementia education program had beneficial effects on knowledge and attitude toward dementia in nursing students.

The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of dementia attitudes according to dementia education in university students on the recognition of dementia policy, focusing on the mediating effect of dementia knowledge. The participants were 306, 1~2 grad of students of U and K university in 2 G cities. The data were collected from September 1 to 31, 2017, and analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 21.0 program with t-test, Pearson correlation coefficients and multiple stepwise regression. There were significant differences in the education group compared to the non-education group in recognition of dementia policy, dementia knowledge, and dementia attitude according to the subject's dementia education. The level of dementia attitudes, recognition of dementia policy, dementia knowledge and attitudes were more than moderate. The positive correlations among recognition of dementia policy, dementia knowledge and attitudes were significant. Dementia knowledge was a predictor of recognition of dementia policy (t=2.35, p=019) and showed a significant partial mediating effect, and the explanatory power was 17.8%. It is necessary to continuously systematically provide the development and application of dementia education programs for the whole people to raise correct dementia knowledge, positive attitudes toward dementia, and awareness of dementia policies.

Background & Objectives: The current study aims to convey correct knowledge of dementia that is be on the rise as the most significant social problem and provide basic data for implementing immediate school health education for dementia which is the basis of improving quality of life for patients with dementia, their family and the society by analyzing recognition level for dementia among male and female students in the 2nd grade of middle school and the necessity of school health education for dementia. Methods: The current study conducted a survey with a total of 150 students. 25 male and female students respectively selected from three middle school taking into account regional characteristics. The study also processed the survey results using SPSS-PC Program 12.0 and gained the following results by implementing Frequency Analysis. Cross-tabulation Analysis and ANOVA Analysis. Results: As for respect for grandparents, 55.3% of the respondents said they respect their grandparents. while 39.3% answered so-so and 5.3% said they don't respect their grandparents. As for the number of they meet grandparents, 36.0% of the respondents said they meet grandparents once or twice a month, which was the most frequent answer. On the other hand, 24.7% are once or twice every six months, 13.3% are once or twice a year and a week, respectively, and 6.7% said that they seldom meet their grandparents. In a question about whether they had recognized dementia after explaining dementia in detail, 82.7% said' yes' while 17.3% said' no'. But few students recognized it when they were asked using a terminology' dementia' first. The average score of knowledge level integrating the most fundamental 16 questions about dementia was $11.20{\pm}1.73$. Also 83.3% of the respondents answered that they had no experience in health education about dementia while 16.7% said presented positive answers. In the necessity of health education about dementia, 73.3% of them said' necessary' while 21.3% said' so-so' and 5.3% said 'not necessary. Conclusions: From the above study results, it was found that it is time to emphasize the necessity and importance of school health education for improving respect for the old and a sense of responsibility for support and converting recognition for dementia in Korea that has social structure of the trend toward the nuclear family and heads for an aged society. However, the fact that the above things are not implemented at all in reality can expand disparate views among family members in the future and further can cause even more serious problem by neglecting senior problems. Therefore, the government, social organizations, especially school organizers should recognize the necessity and importance of school health education and actively begin cultivations of students' character by implementing the education about dementia at the early stage.

The object of this study was to analyze factors influencing adult dementia knowledge, fear of dementia, and intention of dementia prevention behavior on the demand for dementia prevention education. The subjects of the study were 265 adults aged 19 to 64 living in Chungnam and Chungbuk, who understood the purpose of the study and agreed to participate in the study. The collected research data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis. As a result of the study, adult dementia knowledge (p=.055) and dementia fear (p=.302) were found that they did not significantly affect the demand for dementia prevention education, and the intention of dementia prevention behavior (β=.329, p<.001) was found to have a significant effect on the demand for dementia prevention education. Based on these research results, understanding of dementia and dementia management projects, early screening for dementia and health guidelines for dementia prevention, chronic disease management for dementia prevention, exercise for dementia prevention, healthy eating for dementia prevention, and cognitive enhancement for dementia prevention In addition to the national dementia prevention publicity and national response efforts such as programs, it is necessary to actively participate in the dementia prevention program centered on the community to practice the correct dementia prevention behavior and provide sufficient opportunities to prevent it.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to contribute to develope dental health intervention standard curriculum for dementia patients by identifying the extent of knowledge, attitudes and educational needs toward dementia in the dental hygiene department students. Methods: The study was conducted in the students of the dental hygiene department in colleges and universities, nationwide (from the first year students to the 3rd or 4th year students) for approximately 2 months from March to April, 2018. Among them, 545 students were selected as the subjects for the final analysis. Results: 91.0% of the subjects were not currently receiving education on dementia. The research on the factors to impact the dementia education needs of the subjects showed that the dementia education necessity (p<0.001) and the dementia attitude (p<0.001) had statistically significant effects on the educational needs on dementia. Conclusions: It is considered that the standard education curriculum for the dental health intervention for dementia patients in the department of dental hygiene should be developed and disseminated. This will provide a basis for the dental hygienists to be equipped with the relevant expertise in the intervention in the dental health of dementia patients in the future.

This study was executed to develop an education program, which improves knowledge for dementia prevention of the middle aged and enhances positive attitudes, and provide basic data that can apply to communities by inquiring into the middle aged's dementia knowledge, attitudes and needs for dementia prevention education. The study data were collected from 218 people aged 40 to 64 in N city from October 15th to November 30th 2018. For data analysis, frequencies and percentages, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffé test and Pearson's correlation coefficients were applied. The study result displayed that the score of the middle aged's dementia knowledge was above average(9.13±2.20). The question 'Dementia is a disease.' earned the highest percentage of correct answers(88.1%), whereas the question 'Dementia is caused by medical, neurologic or psychiatric disorders.' earned the lowest percentage of correct answers(30.3%). The scores of attitudes towards dementia(34.33±5.69) and needs for dementia prevention education(23.58±3.46) were above average. In addition, there was a statistically significant positive correlation between attitudes towards dementia and needs for dementia prevention education(r=.275, p<.000). In conclusion, it was revealed that positive attitudes towards dementia had a close relation with needs for dementia prevention education. These findings implies that there will be a need to develop a systematic education program about dementia for the middle aged and seek proper political improvements of dementia through cooperation between communities and the country.
Objectives: The objective of this study was to examine the current state of dementia-related education for dental hygiene degree programs in Korea, as well as to develop a dementia-related curriculum for dental hygiene programs suitable for the social characteristics of Korea. Methods: The study was conducted between April and November 2018. First, the current state of dementia-related education for dental hygiene programs in colleges throughout Korea and dementia-related education for other health care-related fields were investigated. Based on the initial findings, the basic content of the preliminary curriculum was constructed. Second, based on the opinion of the dementia-related curriculum development committee comprising 10 professors of dental hygiene, the operations of dementia-related courses and relevant details were constructed. Third, these operations and relevant details were assessed and revised based on focus-group interviews. Fourth, the dementia-related curriculum was developed based on the study findings and literature review. Results: The name of the course in the developed curriculum was set as "Elderly Dental Hygiene and Practicum." The course was established as a "major elective," and was offered as two units with two instructional sessions of two hours each. The learning goal for this course was acquiring the methods for understanding and managing the characteristics of the elderly. A consensus was reached regarding conducting the theoretical and practical lessons on some of the dementia-related content. The dementia-related curriculum comprised 10 "required contents" which is to be conducted over three weeks of theoretical lessons and two weeks of practical lessons. Conclusions: With the growing elderly population, the development and operation of the curriculum for geriatric oral health interventions are warranted in dental hygiene education. However, continued discussions and improvements are needed on the extent of educational content, considering various dementia-related symptoms and general geriatric systemic diseases.
