  • Demand response is a strategy that encourages customers to adjust their consumption patterns at times of peak demand with the aim to improve the reliability of the power grid and minimize expenses. The integration of renewable energy sources into smart grids poses significant challenges due to their intermittent and unpredictable nature. Demand response strategies, coupled with reinforcement learning techniques, have emerged as promising approaches to address these challenges and optimize grid operations where traditional methods fail to meet such kind of complex requirements. This research focuses on investigating the application of reinforcement learning algorithms in demand response for renewable energy integration. The objectives include optimizing demand-side flexibility, improving renewable energy utilization, and enhancing grid stability. The results emphasize the effectiveness of demand response strategies based on reinforcement learning in enhancing grid flexibility and facilitating the integration of renewable energy.

Effects of Experiential Value on Continuous Use Intention for On-Demand Services (온디맨드(On-Demand) 서비스의 지속사용의도에 대한 경험가치 효과)

  • On-Demand services have emerged as one of the core business strategies for delivering new experiential values by providing customized services in different user-needs nowadays. Based on the Stimulus-Organism-Response (S-O-R) framework, this paper focuses on the factors of environmental stimulation and emotional states of the demand-side that induce continuous intention of use from the On-Demand services. The study defines 'Informativeness', 'Fulfillment', 'Trust', and 'Convenience' as the properties of the On-Demand services and considers 'Playfulness', 'Customer Return on Investment (CROI)', and 'Service Excellence' as the aspects of the experiential values. The research shows that 'Fulfillment', 'Trust' and 'Convenience' affected the experiential value in 'Kakao Taxi (On-Demand transportation service)' while 'Informativeness', 'Fulfillment', 'Trust of platform', and 'Convenience' are represented as the related factors to the experiential value in 'Baedal Minjok (On-Demand food delivery service)'. The experiential value factors, 'CROI' and 'Service Excellence', are shown directly related to the continuous intention of use in both services. A partial mediation relationship is, furthermore, observed between the aspects of 'CROI' and 'Service Excellence' in Kakao Taxi and its 'Convenience' and 'Continuous intention of use.' In Baedal Minjok, a partial mediation relationship is found between the 'CROI' with its aspects of 'Trust of the platform', 'Convenience', and 'Continuous intention of use' as well. The results of this study may contribute a comprehensive understanding of the purpose of On-Demand services and its needs from the demand-side thus can be helpful for the supply-side.

Carbon Emission Analysis Considering Demand Response Effect in TOU Program (TOU 프로그램의 DR 효과를 고려한 탄소 배출 분석)

  • Currently, the concern about the environment is the issue all over the world, and in particular, carbon emissions of the power plants will not be able to disregard from the respect of generation cost. This paper proposes DR (demand response) as a method of reducing carbon emissions and therefore, carbon emissions cost. There are a number of studies considering DR, and in this paper, the effect of DR is focused on the side of carbon emission reduction effect considering Time-Of-Use (TOU) program, which is one of the most important economic methods in DSM. Demand-price elasticity matrix is used in this paper to model and analyze DR effect. Carbon emissions is calculated by using the carbon emission coefficient provided by IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), and generator's input-output characteristic coefficients are also used to estimate carbon emission cost as well as the amount of carbon emissions. Case study is conducted on the RBTS IEEE with six buses. For the TOU program, it is assumed that parameters of time period partition consist of three time periods (peak, flat, off-peak time period).

  • The traditional demand prediction was based on the technique wherein electric power corporations made monthly or seasonal estimation of electric power consumption for each area and subscription type for the next one or two years to consider both seasonally generated and local consumed amounts. Note, however, that techniques such as pricing, power generation plan, or sales strategy establishment were used by corporations without considering the production, comparison, and analysis techniques of the predicted consumption to enable efficient power consumption on the actual demand side. In this paper, to calculate the predicted value of electric power consumption on a short-term basis (15 minutes) according to the amount of electric power actually consumed for 15 minutes on the demand side, we performed comparison and analysis by applying a 15-minute interval prediction technique to the average and that to the time series analysis to show how they were made and what we obtained from the simulations.

  • The electricity demand in Korea has rapidly increased along with a steady economic growth since 1970s. Therefore Korea has positively propelled not only SSM(Supply-Side Management) but also DSM(Demand-Side Management) activities to reduce investment cost of generating units and to save supply costs of electricity through the enhancement of whole national energy utilization efficiency. However study for rebate, which have influence on success or failure on DSM program, is not sufficient. This paper executed to modeling mathematically an amount of potential participants considering rebates, which have influence on penetration amounts for DSM program using by 'A Survey of End-User for Energy Efficiency Demand Side Management Programs'.

  • As the importance of time-based competition is increasing, information systems for supporting the immediate decision making is strongly required. Especially high -tech product firms are under extreme pressure of rapid response to the demand side due to relatively short life cycle of the product. Therefore, the objective of our research is proposing a framework of estimating demand curve based on e-auction data, which is extremely easy to access and well reflect the limited demand curve in that channel. Firstly, we identify the advantages of using e-auction data for full demand curve estimation and then verify it using Agent-Eased-Modeling and Tobin's censored regression model.

  • 수요자원은 전력수급 관리에 있어 중요한 위치를 차지할 것으로 보고 있다. 특히 일본 지진과 관련하여 원전사고는 신규 발전소의 입지 난과 환경문제들을 더욱 불거지게 하였으며 전력수급문제가 공급 측면에서만 해결될 수 없으며 수요측면에서도 적극적으로 관리할 필요성이 대두되었다. 본 논문에서는 수요자원이 시장에 연계하여 활용될 수 있도록 수요시장 입찰 참여방식에 대해 검토하였다.

  • This paper proposes the scheme to improve the current direct load control(DLC) program by inspecting the problems of the DLC program. In order to increase the number of the customers participating DLC program, a reduction of the base incentive and an increase of the direct load control incentive are suggested based on the interruption cost of electric power considering the characteristics of load types and the introduction of demand side bidding is recommended. Secondly, the standards of power system operations is required to control DLC program efficiently for the penalty, interruption times, the number of interrupting loads, notice time for the load interruption and the periods of the DLC program contract.

  • This study examines the system and process of battery stored energy in vehicles and suggest the effective area for the use of V2G(vehicle-to-grid) from Jeju Smart Grid Demonstration Project. V2G means technology of electric power transmission from the battery of electric-drive vehicles to state grid. As for the increasing of effectiveness for demand-side control, V2G is a very good alternative. In the U.S., the utilization of electric vehicles is under 40% on average. In this case, we can use he battery of electric vehicle as role of frequency regulation or generator of demand-side resource. V2G, which is the element of Smart Transportation, consists of electric vehicle battery, BMS(battery management system), OBC(on-board charger), charging infrastructure, NOC(network operating center) and TOC(total operation center). V2G application has been tested for frequency regulation to secure the economical efficiency in the United States. In this case, the battery cycle life is not verified its disadvantage. On the other hand, Demand Response is required by low c-rate of battery in electric vehicle and It can be small impact on the battery cycle life. This paper concludes business area of demand response is more useful than frequency regulation in V2G application of electric vehicles in Korea. This provides the opportunity to create a new business for power grid administrator with VPP(virtual power plant).

Design Eccentricity in Equivalent Seismic Load Using Modal Analysis (모드 해석을 이용한 등가 지진하중에서의 설계 편심)

  • Modal analysis does well predict the elastic dynamic response of the torsionally unbalanced structure. But modal analysis overestimates the rotation of the structure in inelastic range, so one side members require ductility too much and the others require ductility too small in comparison with torsionally balanced structure. In this paper, in order to reduce difference of ductility demand between both side members of the torsionally unbalanced structure, design eccentricity of seismic load is evaluated and the method determining the strength center of structure is proposed using modal analysis. For several cases, the ductility demand of stucture is compared to investigate the propriety of the proposed approach.
