Mechanical Relay (McR) is a relaying architecture to enable data communications, where it can endure the transportation delay and intermittent disconnection. Every kind of vehicular infrastructures can be readily utilized for the mechanical relaying in the manner of moving natures, which brings the most significant consequences compared to conventional relaying schemes. In this paper, we analyze the ergodic network throughput of McR in wireless line networks (WLN) to compare the results between employing McRs and direct multi-hopping through the users without McRs. We demonstrate the McR scheme that are not only Ve-SISO but also Ve-SIMO/MISO. The numerical results of ergodic network throughputs contribute to the trade-off relation depending on the speed v of McRs, intensity factors ${\lambda}_u$ and ${\lambda}_r$, and the methods of how McRs are utilized.
The rapid growth of sense-and-respond applications and the emerging cloud computing model present a new challenge: providing publish/subscribe middleware as a scalable and elastic cloud service. The publish/subscribe interaction model is a promising solution for scalable data dissemination over wide-area networks. In addition, there have been some work on the publish/subscribe messaging paradigm that guarantees reliability and availability in the face of node and link failures. These publish/subscribe systems are commonly used in information-centric networks and edge-fog-cloud infrastructures for IoT. The IoT has an edge-fog cloud infrastructure to efficiently process massive amounts of sensing data collected from the surrounding environment. In this paper. we propose a quorum-based hierarchical fault-tolerant publish/subscribe systems (QHFPS) to enable reliable delivery of messages in the presence of link and node failures. The QHFPS efficiently distributes IoT messages to the publish/subscribe brokers in fog overlay layers on the basis of proposing extended stepped grid (xS-grid) quorum for providing tolerance when faced with node failures and network partitions. We evaluate the performance of QHFPS in three aspects: number of transmitted Pub/Sub messages, average subscription delay, and subscritpion delivery rate with an analytical model.

Recently, ICT technology has been evolving towards an M2M (Machine to Machine) environment that allows communication between machine and machine from the communication between person and person, and now the IoT (Internet of Things) technology that connects all things without human intervention is receiving great attention. In such a network environment, the communication network between object and object as well as between person and person, and person and object is available which leads to the sharing of information between all objects, which is the essential technical element for us to move forward to the information service society of the era of future ubiquitous computing. On this paper, the protocol related to DTMNs in a Sparse M2M environment was applied and the improved routing protocol was applied by using the azimuth and density of the moving node in order to support a more efficient network environment to deliver the message between nodes in an M2M environment. This paper intends to verify the continuity of the study related to efficient routing protocols to provide an efficient network environment in the IoT and IoE (Internet of Everything) environment which is as of recently in the spotlight.

Along with increasing of its subscribers and traffic for high-speed LTE service, it is widely expected to bring about the 2nd data explosion and results in any inconvenience of users. This paper proposes a smart traffic management scheme and its system design based on user's participating with the mobile application, in order to provide a fast and stable service for end users as well as to resolve the network overhead with increasing traffic. By making use of a time shift by users who want to reduce data usage amount and communication cost, the proposed scheme tries to reduce the peak traffic by shifting the delay-tolerant services, such as file sharing and software download, into the other time line. It also reduces the high volumed video traffics by transforming them into a user customized one. In addition, we suggest a mechanism to select video size and service time, then proposes an overall system design and its user service scenarios.

Compared to terrestrial RF communications, underwater acoustic communications have several limitations such as limited bandwidth, high level of fading effects, and a large underwater propagation delay. In this paper, in order to tackle those limitations of underwater communications and to make it possible to form a large underwater monitoring systems, we propose a hierarchical underwater network architecture, which consists of underwater sensors, clusterheads, underwater/surface sink nodes, autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs). In the proposed architecture, for the maximization of packet delivery ratio and the minimization of underwater sensor's energy consumption, a hybrid routing protocol is used. More specifically, cluster members use Tree based routing to transmit sensing data to clusterheads. AUVs on optimal trajectory movements collect the aggregated data from clusterhead and finally forward the data to the sink node. Also, in order to minimize the maximum travel distance of AUVs, an Integer Linear Programming based algorithm is employed. Performance analysis through simulations shows that the proposed architecture can achieve a higher data delivery ratio and lower energy consumption than existing routing schemes such as gradient based routing and geographical forwarding. Recently, there are many studies, that considering green wireless cellular networks, have taken the energy consumption of the base station (BS) into consideration. In this work, we first introduce an energy consumption model of multi-mode sharing BS powered by multiple energy sources including renewable energy, local storage and power grid. Then communication load requests of the BS are transformed to energy demand queues, and battery energy level and worst-case delay constraints are considered into the virtual queue to ensure the network QoS when our objective is to minimize the long term electricity cost of BSs. Lyapunov optimization method is applied to work out the optimization objective without knowing the future information of the communication load, real-time electricity market price and renewable energy availability. Finally, linear programming is used, and the corresponding energy efficient scheduling policy is obtained. The performance analysis of our proposed online algorithm based on real-world traces demonstrates that it can greatly reduce one day's electricity cost of individual BS.

An important issue of supporting multi-users with diverse quality-of-service (QoS) requirements over wireless networks is how to optimize the systematic scheduling by intelligently utilizing the available network resource while, at the same time, to meet each communication service QoS requirement. In this work, we study the problem of a variety of communication services over multi-media heterogeneous cognitive OFDM system. We first divide the communication services into two parts. Multimedia applications such as broadband voice transmission and real-time video streaming are very delay-sensitive (DS) and need guaranteed throughput. On the other side, services like file transmission and email service are relatively delay tolerant (DT) so varying-rate transmission is acceptable. Then, we formulate the scheduling as a convex optimization problem, and propose low complexity distributed solutions by jointly considering channel assignment, bit allocation, and power allocation. Unlike prior works that do not care computational complexity. Furthermore, we propose the FAASA (Fairness Assured Adaptive Sub-carrier Allocation) algorithm for both DS and DT users, which is a dynamic sub-carrier allocation algorithm in order to maximize throughput while taking into account fairness. We provide extensive simulation results which demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed schemes.
We propose a new space priority mechanism, and analyze its performance in a single Constant Bit Rate (CBR) server. The arrival process is derived from the superposition of two types of traffics, each in turn results from the superposition of homogeneous ON-OFF sources that can be approximated by means of a two-state Markov Modulated Poisson Process (MMPP). The buffer mechanism enables the Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) layer to adapt the quality of the cell transfer to the Quality of Service (QoS) requirements and to improve the utilization of network resources. This is achieved by "Selective-Delaying and Pushing-ln"(SDPI) cells according to the class they belong to. The scheme is applicable to schedule delay-tolerant non-real time traffic and delay-sensitive real time traffic. Analytical expressions for various performance parameters and numerical results are obtained. Simulation results in term of cell loss probability conform with our numerical analysis.

For real-time wireless sensor network applications, it is essential to provide different levels of quality of service (QoS) such as reliability, low latency, and fault-tolerant traffic control. To meet these requirements, an (m,k)-firm based real-time routing protocol has been proposed in our prior work, including a novel local transmission status indicator called local DBP (L_DBP). In this paper, a fault recovery scheme for (m,k)-firm real-time streams is proposed to improve the performance of our prior work, by contributing a delay-aware forwarding candidates selection algorithm for providing restricted redundancy of packets on multipath with bounded delay in case of transmission failure. Each node can utilize the evaluated stream DBP (G_DBP) and L_DBP values as well as the deadline information of packets to dynamically define the forwarding candidate set. Simulation results show that for real-time service, it is possible to achieve both reliability and timeliness in the fault recovery process, which consequently avoids dynamic failure and guarantees meeting the end-to-end QoS requirement.
