  • Silver-based systems activated by low intensity direct current continue to be investigated as an alternative antimicrobial for infection prophylaxis and treatment. However there has been limited research on the quantitative characterization of the antimicrobial efficacy of such systems. The objective of this study was to develop a semi-mechanistic pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) model providing the quantitative relationship between the critical system parameters and the degree of antimicrobial efficacy. First, time-kill curves were experimentally established for a strain of Staphylococcus aureus in a nutrientrich fluid environment over 48 hours. Based on these curves, a modified PK/PD model was developed with two components: a growing silver-susceptible bacterial population and a depreciating bactericidal process. The test of goodness-of-fit showed that the model was robust and had good predictability ($R^2>0.7$). The model demonstrated that the current intensity was positively correlated to the initial killing rate and the bactericidal fatigue rate of the system while the anode surface area was negatively correlated to the fatigue rate. The model also allowed the determination of the effective range of these two parameters within which the system has significant antimicrobial efficacy. In conclusion, the modified PK/PD model successfully described bacterial growth and killing kinetics when the bacteria were exposed to the electrically activated silver-titanium implant system. This modeling approach as well as the model itself can also potentially contribute to the development of optimal design strategies for other similar antimicrobial systems.

  • This study analyzes current self-nail tips and nail-tip satisfaction. The study method selected from 3 domestic and 3 overseas companies analyzed current self-nail tips based on brand recognition and sales rate. A questionnaire was conducted on 261 adult women in their 20s and 50s about the satisfaction of nail care and self-nail tips. The results are as follows. As a result to analyze the current nail tips, there were products that did not contain the type of nail tip or the composition and ingredients of the glue. An online survey of the sizes of the current nail tips indicated differences in the sizing system method and that the presented sizes are different. The response rate was the highest for the survey results on why self-nail tips were preferred for respondents who prefer self-nail tips because the price was cheap. The reason why they did not prefer self-nail tips was that the degree of completeness was lower and the fitness was not good. In addition, it showed a high response rate in that the adhesive strength was poor and the size did not fit the nails. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a size for nail types by ergonomic design and develop a self-nail tip that can reduce nail damage.

  • The purpose of this study was to test the reliability and validity of the SART(Situation Awareness Rating Technique) tool to measure the situational awareness of patients with acute coronary syndrome. The translated SART was tested on 118 hospitalized patients with acute coronary syndrome to verify the reliability and validity of the tool. The analysis was conducted with Cronbach's alpha, exploratory & confirmatory factor analysis. Study findings found that the tool's reliability and model fit index improved when the two problematic items, namely, Situation Awareness 1 (Instability of Situation) and Situation Awareness 7 (Spare Mental Capacity) were removed. According to the results, the revised K-SART is deemed to be an appropriate method for assessing the degree of situational awareness of patients with acute coronary syndrome in decision making about treatment-seeking.

  • Breeders have concerned with the nature of gene action controlling the duration of grain filling period to combine early maturity and acceptable grain yield to fit wheat into multiple cropping systems. The 4 x 4 complete diallel set of F$_1$, F$_2$ and 1/2 (BC$_1$ + BC$_2$) in crosses of winter and spring wheat cultivars was made to determine the nature of gene action involved for duration of grain filling period. Using the Jinks-Hayman model, no maternal effects were noted nor were any non-allelic interactions observed for total duration of grain filling and lag period. The actual grain filling period was influenced to some degree by such interactions. The spring cultivars Red Bobs and Siete Cerros also appeared to have more dominant genes for longer total duration of grain filling and lag period. In contrast, the winter parents Yamhill and Hyslop had more dominant genes for the longer actual grain filling period. The genes appeared to be independently distributed among the parents.

  • Due to the various characteristics of urban river, rehabilitation project for natural river requires distinct alternative approach and selection method for each different types of river. In this study, naturalness of a river was used to establish such alternative for the business and rehabilitation plan for natural river. To assess the naturalness of a river, through AHP, designed to fit the environmental conditions in Korea, was employed. Furthermore, a method that conveniently compares and selects an alternative for rehabilitation plan for natural river by referencing Urban River Basin Enhancement Methods (URBEM) was proposed. After selecting the evaluation items for assessing the naturalness of the river based on the characteristics of the river, multiple alternatives were constructed and the naturalness of river for each of those alternatives were estimated. Comparing the estimated values has made the measurement of the natural recovery effect and the product of river rehabilitation plan for each alternative efficient. In conclusion, selecting the items for evaluating the naturalness of a river with respect to its characteristics was found to be effective for establishing the rehabilitation plan for natural river.

  • To obtain the gravity data with consistent quality and good distribution over Korea, to overcome the difficulties in constructing precision geoid from biased distribution of ground data, to resolve the discrepancy between the ground and ocean gravity data, an airborne gravity survey was conducted from Dec. 2008 to Jan. 2009. The data was measured at the average flying height of 3,000m and the data with cross-over error of 2.21mGal is obtained. The geoid constructed using this airborne gravity data shows the range of 9.34 $\sim$ 33.88m. Comparing the geoid with respect to the GPS/levelling data, a precision of 0.145m is obtained. After fitting, the degree of fit to GPS/levelling data was calculated about 5cm. It was found that there exists large biases in the area of south-western and northern part of the peninsular which is considered to be the effect of distorted vertical datum in Korea. Thus, more investigation on vertical datum would be needed in near future.

  • This study examined the influence and role of college students' career preference type on the decision-making process of career selection, and also analyzed the effect on the confession bias in the process. The data was collected from June 20th to July 9th, 2017. The case analysis method was used for three times over 20 days by interviewing university students in the metropolitan area. The results of the analysis of the data from the study participants show that there are differences in the degree of individuals regardless of the preferred occupation type and career aptitude, but mostly there is a bias toward career and career. Confirmed biased thinking is a phenomenon that is shaped by the psychological and environmental factors of the research participants and that they try to fit themselves into a framework that reflects social awareness. The implication of this study is that the preference type affects the selection of the major, and that confirmation bias is a hindrance to proper employment and a job search. The preference for the individual job type should be properly established. Environment and opportunity should be provided.

  • In proposing the concept of flow which focuses on experiencing the sites visited by Korean wave tourists as induced by drama or movies, this paper investigated role of involvement variables for Korean wave tourists in influencing flow construct of film sites. The involvement of Korean wave was found to operate as a mechanism by which challenge, skills, focused attention on site might be more organized or more actively experienced. This recognizes that there is clearly a need for making the FIT sites exposed much by any mix of various media. This study showed that challenges and skills influence enjoyment as output factor of flow film site visitors are assumed to participate the roles of film characters, experiencing the places and atmosphere. The degree of visitors' reflections in the film optimizes awareness of flow experiences on the site. Therefore, it is necessary to provide more detailed experiential program on the film sites with the wide variety of flow-related contents in the film.

  • It is important to conduct an anthropometric study to develop garment patterns to accommodate the changes found in the body size and type of men in their 30s, to effectively address fit dissatisfaction. Thus, this study aims to explore changes in the lower body sizes and body types of men in their 30s, and provide basic measurements for designing pants patterns. For this purpose, key anthropometric dimensions for the lower body of men in their 30s, which were acquired by the 6th (2010) and 7th (2015) survey conducted by Size Korea, were analyzed using SPSS 24.0 for Windows. Independent sample t-tests were conducted on major lower body sizes to track changes over time. Factor and cluster analyses were used to classify lower body types. From the comparison of the 6th (2010) and 7th (2015) surveys, it was found that the overall lower body size of men in their 30s were increasing in the height-related aspects, circumference, thickness, and width-as well as body weight and BMI. The five factors were derived to determine the typical lower body types of men in their 30s and the body types were classified into three categories through cluster analysis: (1) those with the largest body size, body volume, and obesity, (2) those with smallest body size, lower body volume, and obesity degree, visually the most skinny type, (3) those with BMI and weight that are the smallest, like Type 2, but the main circumference of the lower body is lower. In order to visually look at the statistical analysis, results were presented by producing a avatar based on the main lower body values.

  • We report on multi-wavelength observations of AA Ori, a Young Stellar Object in Orion-A star-forming region. AA Ori is known to have a pre-transitional disk based on infrared observations including Spitzer/IRS data. We construct its broadband spectral energy distribution (SED) by not only taking data in the optical and IR region but also including Herschel/PACS, JCMT/SCUBA, and SMA observational data. We use the Monte Carlo radiative transfer code (RADMC-3D) to reconstruct the SED with a viscous accretion disk model initialized by a radially continuous disk and finally having an inner and outer dusty disk separated by a dust-depleted radial gap. By comparing the model SEDs with different configurations of disk parameters, we discuss the limits to find a single solution of model parameters to fit the data. We suggest that some models with a modified inner disk surface density gradient and some degree of dust depletion in the inner disk can explain the AA Ori's SED, from which we infer that the inner disk of AA Ori has evolved. We present that model configurations of a pre-transitional disk with a large gap extended to 60-80 AU in a settled dusty disk of a few hundred AU size with a high inclination angle (~60°) also create model SEDs close to the observed one. To distinguish whether the disk has a just-opened narrow gap or a large gap, with an altered surface density of the inner disk extended to 10 AU, we suggest a further investigation of AA Ori with high angular resolution observations.
