An experimental study on condensation heat transfer characteristics of helically coiled spiral tubes was performed. The refrigerant is R-113. A refrigerant loop was established to measure the condensation heat transfer coefficients. Experiments were carried out uniform heat flux of 15 kw/m$^2$, refrigerant quality of 0.1∼0.9, curvature ratio of 0.016, 0.025 and 0.045. The curvature of a coil was defined as the ratio of the inside diameter of the tube to the diameter of the bending circle. To compare the condensation heat transfer coefficients of coiled spiral tubes, the previous results on coiled plain tubes and straight plain tubes were used. The results shows that the condensation heat transfer coefficients of coiled spiral tubes largely increase, as increasing Re and quality, compared to those of coiled plain tubes and straight plain tubes. As increasing degree of subcooling, however, the condensation heat transfer coefficients on coiled spiral tubes decrease. It is found that the heat transfer enhancement is more better than coiled plain tubes and straight plain tubes, as increasing curvature ratio.
An experimental study of steam condensation on a subcooled thick water layer (0.018 ~0.032 m) in a countercurrent stratified flow has been performed using a nearly horizontal circular pipe. A total of 103 average interfacial condensation heat transfer coefficients were obtained and parametric effects of steam and water flow rates and the degree of subcooling on condensation heat transfer were examined. The measured local temperature and velocity distributions in the thick water layer revealed that there was a thermal stratification due to the lack of full turbulent thermal mixing in the lower region of the water layer Two empirical Nusselt number correlations, one in terms of average steam and water Reynolds numbers, and the water Prandtl number, and the other in terms of the Jakob number in place of the Prandtl number, which agree with most of the data within $\pm$ 25%, were developed based on the bulk flow properties. Comparisons of the present data with existing correlations showed that the present data were significantly lower than the values predicted by existing correlations.
[ $CO_2$ ] and propane mixtures, which are environmentally benign, nontoxic, low in price, and compatible with materials and lubricants, were considered as promising alternative refrigerants. A fully instrumented air-conditioning system was developed for a precise performance evaluation of pure $CO_2$ and $CO_2/propane$ mixtures. In this paper, the effect of the charging amount and circulation concentration on the cooling performance of the system using $CO_2$ and propane mixtures was tested and discussed. Pure $CO_2$ and 85/15, 75/25 and 60/40 binary blends by the charged mass percentage of $CO_2/propane$ were selected as working fluids. An optimum charging amount was proposed as a parameter instead of the degree of subcooling, which can not be well defined in the transcritical cycle, to properly compare the performance between the transcritical and subcritical cycles.
This paper describes an analysis on performance of R744-R404A cascade refrigeration system with internal heat exchanger to optimize the design for the operating parameters of the system. The operating parameters considered in this study include subcooling and superheating degree, internal heat exchanger and compression efficiency, evaporating and condensing temperature in the R744 low- and R404A high-temperature cycle and temperature difference of cascade heat exchanger. The main results are summarized as follows : COP of cascade refrigeration system increases with the increasing of compression efficiency, but decreases with the increasing temperature difference of cascade heat exchanger. Also, the COP increases with the increasing of internal heat exchanger efficiency in high-temperature cycle, but decreases with that in low-temperature cycle. Therefore, internal heat exchanger efficiency, compressor efficiency and temperature difference of cascade heat exchanger on R744-R404A cascade refrigeration system have an effect on the COP of this system.

A new set of capillary tube selection charts for R-22 is proposed. The set of charts takes into account of the roughness effect on the mass flow rate. For this purpose, a set of numerical model is developed and a series of experiments is conducted to verify the numerical model. A numerical model is used to calculated the mass flow rate for several sets of tube diameter, length, inlet pressures and degree of subcooling. The outlet of the tube is controlled to be at critical condition. The experimental flow rate is compared with calculated values. The calculated values are consistently less than the experimental ones except for the flow rate range below 40kg/hr. The deviation is within 10---. Based on the nunmerical model and results of experiments, the set of capillary tube selection charts for R-22 is constructed. The set of charts consists of standard capillary tube chart(L=2030mm, d=1.63mm, ${\varepsilon}=2.5{\mu}m$), non -standard flow factor(${\phi}_1$) chart, and non-standard roughness factor(${\phi}_2$) chart. The mass flow rate, flow factor, and the roughness factor are defined respectively as; $\dot{m}={\phi}_1{\phi}_2\dot{m}_{standard}\\{\phi}_1=\frac{\dot{m}(L,\;d,\;\varepsilon_{standard})}{\dot{m}_{standard}(L_{standard},\;d_{standard},\;{\varepsilon}_{standard})}\\{\phi}_2=\frac{\dot{m}(L_{standard},\;d_{standard},\;{\varepsilon})}{\dot{m}_{standard}(L_{standard},\;d_{standard},\;{\varepsilon}_{standard})}$.
An experimental study on the refrigerant-side pressure drop of slit fin-tube heat exchanger has been carried out. A comparison was made between the predictions of previously proposed empirical correlations and experimental data for the pressure drop on design conditions of condenser in micro-fin tube for R22 and its alternatives, R407C (R32/125/134a, 23/25/52 wt.%) and R410A (R32/125, 50/50 wt.%). Experiments were carried out under the conditions of inlet refrigerant temperature of 6$0^{\circ}C$ and mass fluxes varying from 150 to 250 kg/$m^2$s for R22, R407C and R410A. The inlet air conditions are dry bulb temperature of 35$^{\circ}C$, relative humidity of 40% and air velocity varying from 0.68 to 1.43 m/s. Experiments show that pressure drop for R410A and R407C were 17.8∼20.2% and 5∼6.8% lower than those of R22 respectively for the degree of subcooling of 5$^{\circ}C$. For the mass fluxes of 200∼250 kg/$m^2$s, the deviation between the experimental and predicted values for the pressure drop was less than $\pm$20% for R22, R407C and R410A.
In this paper, an analysis on performance and exergy of R404A refrigeration system using R744 secondary refrigerant was performed numerically to optimize the design for the operating parameters. The operating parameters considered in this study include subcooling and superheating degree, internal heat exchanger and compression efficiency, evaporation and condensation temperature in the R404A refrigeration cycle and temperature difference of cascade heat exchanger. The main results are summarized as follows : The COP(coefficient of performance) of R404A refrigeration system increases with increasing evaporation temperature. The evaporation capacity of R744 as secondary refrigerant increases with the increase in evaporation pressure of R744 secondary refrigeration. And the enthalpy in the evaporator outlet of R744 increases with the increasing evaporation pressure of R744 secondary refrigeration. Therefore, it is important to analysis for the relationship between COP of R404A refrigeration system and refrigeration capacity of R744. As cascade evaporation temperature increase, the exergy loss of condenser and compressor using R404A is the largest among all components. Therefore, the exergy loss in the condenser and compressor using R404A must be decreased to enhance the COP of R404A refrigeration system with R744 secondary refrigerant.
