  • Most of Commercial Remote Center Compliance(RCC) devices have been designed using deformable structures. In this work, we propose another type of assembly devices which generate the compliance effects by attaching the compliances (or spring) at the joints of the given mechainsm. The compliance models are derived for a serial-type, parallel-type, and hybrid-type mechanisms, respectively. In particular, a planar three-degree of freedom parallel structure is shown to have RCC points at the center of the workspace for its symmetric configuratings.

FEM Analysis of Turning Multi-layer Metal (다중 적층 금속의 선삭가공에 대한 FEM 해석)

  • The aim of this study is to analyze turning process using commercial FEM simulation code. Various simulation models of orthogonal cutting process for 3 layers of metallic material have been simulated and analyzed. The workpiece material used for the orthogonal plane-strain metal cutting simulation consists of three layers, which are Allow Tool Steel, Aluminum and Stainless Steel. The finite element model is composed of a deformable workpiece and a rigid tool. The tool penetrates through the workpiece at a constant speed and constant feed rate. As an analytical result, detailed cutting temperature, strain, pressure, residual stress for both a tool and each layer of workpiece were obtained during the turning process. It has been closely observed that the chip flow curve deforms continuously.

  • In this paper, we developed visual tracking algorithm using double active bar. The active bar model to represent the object can reduce the search space of energy surface and better performance than those of snake model. However, the contour will not find global equilibrium when driving force caused by image may be weak. To overcome this problem. Double active bar is proposed for finding the global minimum point without any dependence on initialization. To achieve the goal, an deformable model with two initial contours in attempted to search for a global minimum within two specific initial contours. This approach improve the performance of finding the contour of target. To evaluate the performance, some experiments are executed. We can achieved the good result for tracking a object on noisy image.

  • The present article deals with post-buckling of geometrically imperfect concrete plates reinforced by graphene oxide powder (GOP) based on general higher order plate model. GOP distributions are considered as uniform and linear models. Utilizing a shear deformable plate model having five field components, it is feasible to verify transverse shear impacts with no inclusion of correction factor. The nonlinear governing equations have been solved via an analytical trend for deriving post-buckling load-deflection relations of the GOP-reinforced plate. Derived findings demonstrate the significance of GOP distributions, geometric imperfectness, foundation factors, material compositions and geometrical factors on post-buckling properties of reinforced concrete plates.

Study on Transient Flow in Pipeline with Flexible Tube (탄성관을 삽입한 관로에서의 비정상류에 관한 연구)

  • Experimental and numerical study was done to confirm the effect of the flexible tube in pipeline on transient flow oscillation. Experiment was made for a pipeline with and without deformable flexible tube using a single pumping system of main stainless pipe. The wave speeds of main pipe and flexible tube were calculated from the pipe material properties, structures, and boundary conditions. Time dependent pressure fluctuations were calculated for the pipeline using the simple and the Kelvin-Voigt viscoelastic models for the deformation of main pipe and flexible tube. Pressure calculated by the Kelvin-Voigt viscoelastic model showed better agreement with measured one than pressure by the simple model. Experimental and numerical results show that the maximum pressure as well as amplitude of pressure oscillation was decreased by inserting short flexible tube in pipeline. Hence, inserted short flexible tube to pipeline was found to be effective for the suppression of strong pressure oscillation. Moreover, the wave speed in pipe was discussed based on numerical and experimental results.

3D Face Modeling using Face Image

  • Purpose It has been stated that patient satisfaction is the crucial factor for determining success in plastic surgery. The convergence of medical science and computer vision has made easier to satisfy patients who wants to have plastic surgery. In this paper, we try to apply 3D face modeling in plastic surgical area. Materials and Methods The author introduces a method for accurate 3D face modeling techniques using a statistical model-based 3D face modeling approach in a mirror system. Results We could successfully obtain highly accurate 3D face shape results. Conclusion The method suggested could be used for acquiring 3D face models from 2D face image and the result obtained from this could be effectively used for plastic surgical areas.

  • There is few research about contact problem for a rigid surface with an arbitrary shape in SPH. The variational equation based on the virtual work principle is derived and its solution is obtained by the penalty method. It is proposed a new method that can determine the parameters for a penetration and a penetration rate used in the penalty method. The reproducing condition is adopted to correct the deficiency of kernel on the boundary. In order to calculate a penetration of particles, after checking boundary particles for deformable body boundary normal vectors were determined on the rigid surface. Numerical simulations for models which have rigid surface with an arbitrary shape were conducted to validate the proposed method in 2D. The results of those analysis represent that the contact algorithm proposed in this study works properly.

  • In this paper, we apply and evolutionary computation(EC), probabilistic optimization algorithm, to active contour. A number of problems exist associated with such as algorithm initialization, existence of local minima, non-convex search space, and the selection of model parameters in conventional models. We propose an adequate fitness function for these problems. The determination of fitness function adequate to active contour using EC is important in search capability. As a result of applying the proposed method to non-convex object shape, we improve the unstability and contraction phenomena, in nature, of snake generated in deformable contour optimization.

  • Recently, the finite element absolute nodal coordinate formulation (ANCF) was developed for the large deformation analysis of flexible bodies in multi-body dynamics. This formulation is based on the finite element procedures and the general continuum mechanics theory to represent the elastic forces. In this paper, a computation method of dynamic stress in flexible multi-body dynamics using absolute nodal coordinate formulation is proposed. Numerical examples, based on an Euler-Bernoulli beam theory, are shown to verify the efficiency of the proposed method. This method can be applied for predicting the fatigue life of a mechanical system. Moreover, this study demonstrates that structural and multi-body dynamic models can be unified in one numerical system.
