Given the small bit allocation for motion information in very low bit-rate coding, motion estimation using the block matching algorithm(BMA) fails to maintain an acceptable level of prediction errors. The reson is that the motion model, or spatial transformation, assumed in block matching cannot approximate the motion in the real world precisely with a small number of parameters. In order to overcome the drawback of the conventional block matching algorithm, several triangle-based methods which utilize triangular patches insead of blocks have been proposed. To estimate the motions of image sequences, these methods usually have been based on the combination of optical flow equation, affine transform, and iteration. But the compuataional cost of these methods is expensive. This paper presents a fast motion estimation algorithm using a multiple linear regression model to solve the defects of the BMA and the triange-based methods. After describing the basic 2-D triangle-based method, the details of the proposed multiple linear regression model are presented along with the motion estimation results from one standard video sequence, representative of MPEG-4 class A data. The simulationresuls show that in the proposed method, the average PSNR is improved about 1.24 dB in comparison with the BMA method, and the computational cost is reduced about 25% in comparison with the 2-D triangle-based method.
This paper presents the effects of corrosion environments of failure pressure model for buried pipelines on failure prediction by using a failure probability. The FORM (first order reliability method) is used in order to estimate the failure probability in the buried pipelines with corrosion defects. The effects of varying distribution types of random variables such as normal, lognormal and Weibull distributions on the failure probability of buried pipelines are systematically investigated. It is found that the failure probability for the MB31G model is larger than that for the B31G model. And the failure probability is estimated as the largest for the Weibull distribution and the smallest for the normal distribution. The effect of data scattering in corrosion environments on failure probability is also investigated and it is recognized that the scattering of wall thickness and yield strength of pipeline affects the failure probability significantly. The normalized margin is defined and estimated. Furthermore, the normalized margin is used to predict the failure probability using the fitting lines between failure probability and normalized margin.
In the cold forming process, it is not easy to fabricate a asymmetric type nut, due to the difficulty in the exact prediction of metal-flow. As we have identified, in that case, it often results in the various forging defects such as burrs, and an incomplete shape, as well as other problems because of this issue. In the current study, we introduce the development of an unparalleled shape Weld Nut by using a forging analysis tool (AFDEX). For the multi-forming machine, the optimized shapes of each intermediate product (step product) could be found by the use of a model for the prediction and analysis of various types, sizes and heights. Chiefly, forging tools were prepared based on the simulation results and an unparalleled shape could be prepared at one time without any burrs, incomplete shape and size.
Crack, craze and void are common defects which may be found in the bulk of polymeric materials such as either themoplastics or thermosets. The healing phenomena, autohesion, of these defects are known to be a intrinsic material property of various polymeric materials. However, only a few experimental and theoretical investigations on crack, void and craze healing phenomena for various polymeric materials have been reported up to date [1, 2, 3]. This may be partly due to the complications of healing processes and lacking of appropriate theoretical developments. Recently, some investigators have been urged to study the healing phenomena of various polymenic materials since the significance of the use of polymer based alloys or composites has been raised in terms of specific strength and energy saving. In the earlier published reports [1, 2, 3, 4], the crack and void healing velocity, healing toughness and some other healing mechanical and physical properties were measured experimentally and compared with predicted values by utilizing a simple model such as the reptation model under some resonable assumptions. It seems, however, that the general acceptance of the proposed modeling analyses is yet open question. The crack healing processes seem to be complicate and highly dependent on the state of virgin material in terms of mechanical and physical properties. Furthermore, it is also strongly dependent on the histories of crack, craze and void development including fracture suface morphology, the shape of void and the degree of disentanglement of fibril in the craze. The rate of crack healing may be a function of environmental factors such as healing temperature, time and pressure which gives different contact configurations between two separated surfaces. It seems to be reasonable to assume that the crack healing processes may be divided in several distinguished steps like stress relaxation with molecular chain arrangement, surface contact (wetting), inter- diffusion process and com;oete healing (to obtain the original strength). In this context, it is likely that we no longer have to accept the limitation of cumulative damage theories and fatigue life if it is probable to remove the defects such as crack, craze and void and to restore the original strength of polymers or polymer based compowites by suitable choice of healing histories and methods. In this paper, we wish to present a very simple and intuitive theoretical model for the prediction of healed fracture toughness of cracked or defective polymeric components. The central idea of this investigation, thus, may be the modeling of behavior of chain molecules under healing conditions including the effects of chain scission on the healing processes. The validity of this proposed model will be studied by making comparisons between theoretically predicted values and experimentally determined results in near future and will be reported elsewhere.
Purpose: For improving outgoing quality, this study presents a novel sampling framework based on predictive analytics. Methods: The proposed framework is composed of three steps. The first step is the variable selection. The knowledge-based and data-driven approaches are employed to select important variables. The second step is the model learning. In this step, we consider the supervised classification methods, the anomaly detection methods, and the rule-based methods. The applying model is the third step. This step includes the all processes to be enabled on real-time prediction. Each prediction model classifies a product as a target sample or random sample. Thereafter intensive quality inspections are executed on the specified target samples. Results: The inspection data of three Samsung products (mobile, TV, refrigerator) are used to check functional defects in the product by utilizing the proposed method. The results demonstrate that using target sampling is more effective and efficient than random sampling. Conclusion: The results of this paper show that the proposed method can efficiently detect products that have the possibilities of user's defect in the lot. Additionally our study can guide practitioners on how to easily detect defective products using stratified sampling

Purpose: Our pilot study showed that a 3-dimensional dual drug delivery scaffold (DDDS) loaded with Chinese herbs significantly increased the regenerated bone volume fraction. This study aimed to confirm the synergistic anti-inflammatory and osteogenic preclinical effects of this system. Methods: The targets and pathways of parthenolide and naringin were predicted. Three cell models were used to assess the anti-inflammatory effects of parthenolide and the osteogenic effects of naringin. First, the distance between the cementoenamel junction and alveolar bone crest (CEJ-ABC) and the bone mineral density (BMD) of surgical defects were measured in a rat model of periodontitis with periodontal fenestration defects. Additionally, the mRNA expression levels of matrix metallopeptidase 9 (MMP9) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) were measured. Furthermore, the number of inflammatory cells and osteoclasts, as well as the protein expression levels of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and levels of ALP were determined. Results: Target prediction suggested prostaglandin peroxidase synthase (PTGS2) as a potential target of parthenolide, while cytochrome P450 family 19 subfamily A1 (CYP19A1) and taste 2 receptor member 31 (TAS2R31) were potential targets of naringin. Parthenolide mainly targeted inflammation-related pathways, while naringin participated in steroid hormone synthesis and taste transduction. In vitro experiments revealed significant antiinflammatory effects of parthenolide on RAW264.7 cells, and significant osteogenic effects of naringin on bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells and MC3T3-E1 cells. DDDS loaded with parthenolide and naringin decreased the CEJ-ABC distance and increased BMD and ALP levels in a time-dependent manner. Inflammation was significantly alleviated after 14 days of DDDS treatment. Additionally, after 56 days, the DDDS group exhibited the highest BMD and ALP levels. Conclusions: DDDS loaded with parthenolide and naringin in a rat model achieved significant synergistic anti-inflammatory and osteogenic effects, providing powerful preclinical evidence.
Recently, researchers and engineers from, the development of reliability engineering and probability fracture mechanics, have begun to take seriously the reliability analysis and the integrity for a corroded pipeline. Pressurized pipelines containing active corrosion defects increase gradually both in extent, and depth with increased periods of exposure. This causes a reduction of the remaining strength and the carrying capacity of a pipeline; and creates uncertainty about the future capacity. The steps that are necessary in order to assess the integrity of corroded pipelines will be discussed in this paper utilizing results from an actual model.
Fiber waviness is one of manufacturing defects encountered frequently in thick composite structures. It affects significantly on the behavior as well as strength of thick composites. The effects of fiber waviness on tensile/compressive nonlinear elastic behavior and strength of thick composite with fiber waviness are studied theoretically and experimentally. FEA(Finite Element Analysis) models are proposed to predict tensile/compressive nonlinear behavior and strength of thick composites. In the FEA models, both material and geometric nonlinearities were incorporated into the model using energy density, iterative mapping and incremental method. Also Tsai-Wu criteria was adopted to predict the strength of thick composites with fiber waviness. Tensile and compressive tests were conducted on the specimens with uniform fiber waviness. It was observed that the degree of fiber waviness in composites significantly affected the nonlinear behavior and strength of the composites
A basic three dimensional thermal model has been developed to simulate the solidification sequence for gravity die casting process. The finite difference method was used to analyze the solidification process during all the casting cycles. The prediction of die temperature in the quasi-steady state was analyzed by the boundary element method. The influence of die cooling on the heat flow in the cast/mold system was also investigated. Predictions of the computer simulation on temperature profiles and location of shrinkage defects were in good agreement with those observed in experimental die castings. Models of computer simulation which is developed by this work can be useful for the design and process control of die casting.
The acoustic power reduction methods of the vibrating structures are valid to design the quite structure. To calculate the acoustic power, the dynamic responses have to be determined. It is not easy to analyse the structure composed of the corrugated panels. Because of the structural complexity and the many analysing times. To make up for these defects, the equivalent orthogonal panel is presented. Also the acoustic power prediction method of the vibrating structures is proposed. As examples, the equivalent material properties of the corrugated plates are obtained and the acoustic powers of the floor structure are calculated at several frequency regions for KHST.
