For high-quality software development, it is necessary to detect and fix the defects inserted. If defect management activities are not properly performed, it will lead to the project delay and project failure due to rework. Therefore, organizations need to establish defect management process and institutionalize it. Process standard models handle defect management in the area of project monitoring and control. However, small organizations experience difficulties in implementing and applying defect management process in a real situation. In this paper, we propose a defect management process for small organization which is designed in accordance with the characteristics of a small projects such as few participants and short development period. The proposed defect management process will be based on a tool chain with open source software such as Redmine, Subversion, Maven, Jenkins that support a defect management process and SW Visualization in systematic way. We also proposed a way of constructing defect database and various methods of analyzing and controlling defect data based on it. In an effort to prove the effectiveness of the proposed process, we applied the process and tool chain to a small organization.
As we detect defects and eliminate them in early stages, we can make better quality software. For doing this task, we need to use a defect tracking system which con effectively track and manage defects that give severe effects on software quality. Those existing defect tracking systems have some weaknesses as we apply them to organizations that use CMMI for process improvements. Major problems of those systems are that they require the organizations to collect many types of defect data at a time without providing the proper explanation and even without the support of defect management process. The organizations at CMMI maturity level 2 and 3 have problems for analyzing those defects because there is no specific process area at CMMI maturity level 2 and 3 which directly handles defect managing activites. This paper resolves those problems by developing a defect tracking system which offers methods of managing defects. And the system provides guidelines of which defects should be gathered for each CMMI mathurity levels. The system also has functions to generate various status and statistic information on defects, and to assign defect data to the person in charge so that he or she track the defect to the closure

Photonic crystal (PC) has special interests for their promising applications in three-dimensional photon control and integrated devices. In a nonlinear photonic crystal (NPC), optical intensity in a defect layer is greatly increased due to the location function of NPC and nonlinearity. The nonliearity of the defect layer is very much enhanced because the group velocity is reduced and the interaction time between light and nonlinear medium in the defect layer is enlarged. (omitted)

In this paper we suggest a development of surface defect inspection algorithms for cold mill strip using tree structure. The defects which exist in a surface of cold mill strip have a scattering or singular distribution. This paper consists of preprocessing, feature extraction and defect classification. By preprocessing, the binarized defect image is achieved. In this procedure, Top-hit transform, adaptive thresholding, thinning and noise rejection are used. Especially, Top-hit transform using local min/max operation diminishes the effect of bad lighting. In feature extraction, geometric, moment, co-occurrence matrix, histogram-ratio features are calculated. The histogram-ratio feature is taken from the gray-level image. For the defect classification, we suggest a tree structure of which nodes are multilayer neural network clasifiers. The proposed algorithm reduced error rate comparing to one stage structure.

Driving the need for machine vision system is growing consumer demand for quality and defect-free products. Especially it is the most important in tarpaulin's manufacturing process achieves automatically by machine vision instead of by man vision. In this paper pinholes detection is performed by using morphology algorithms. Top hat transform is one of morphology applications. This transform take high performance of defect detection in the case that unexpected changes occur in some non-uniform background. For pinholes defect, automatic visual inspection system has been developed, which was composed by a line-scan camera, illumination, a frame grabber, a motor driver and control units. This system has excellent capacity to defect pinholes to the 0.1 mm by 0.5 mm in size and to work in moving objects by maximum 20 m/min in speed.

This paper presents a study of cold combined forward-backward extrusion product. The case of product with thin wall in piercing process occur defects of deformation and breakdown during piercing process and the center web of product with thin thickness cause flow defect. Such defect is made by the difference of material flow. Methods of the material flow control in the two directions and forming process to remove this flow defect is proposed. The effectiveness of the proposed methods is examined by comparison experiment and finite element simulation.
An infrared temperature sensor module developed for the detection of defects in a plate was modified to use in a cylinder. A set of optical fiber leads and a mechanism maintaining sensor-object distance constant were utilized for the modification of the IR sensor module. The detection performance was experimentally investigated, and the measured temperature was also compared with computed temperature distribution. The experimental outcome indicates that the detection of a simulated defect is readily available. The temperature distribution is better for defect detection than that with the previous device. In addition, the measured distribution is comparable to the calculated one using a heat conduction equation. The developed device of defect detection is suitable to be utilized in chemical processes where most of vessels and piping systems are in the shape of a cylinder.
Recent progress in both low pretilt and high pretilt defect free C1 surface stabilized ferroelectric liquid crystal (SSFLC) devices is reviewed. First, by numerical calculation to investigate the balance between surface azimuthal anchoring energy and bulk elastic energy within the confined chevron layer geometry of C1 and C2, it is possible to achieve a zigzag free C1 state by low azimuthal anchoring alignment with a low pretilt angle. The critical azimuthal anchoring coefficient for defect free C1 state is calculated. Its relationship with elastic constant, chevron angle as well as surface topography effect are also discussed. Second, using $5^{\circ}$ oblique SiO deposition alignment method a defect free, large memory angle, high contrast ratio and bistable C1 SSFLC display, which has potential for electronic paper applications has also been developed. The electrooptical properties and bistability of this device have been investigated. Various aspects of defect control are also discussed.
There has been some research in the equipment defect detection based on vibration information. Most research of them is based on vibration monitoring to determine the equipment defect or not. In this paper, we introduce more accurate system for engine defect detection based on vibration information and we focus on detection of engine defect for boat and system control. First, it uses the duplicated-checking method for vibration information to determine the engine defect or not. If there is a defect happened, we use the method using error part of vibration information basis with error range to determine which kind of error is happened. On the other hand, we use the engine trend analysis and standard of safety engine to implement the vibration information database. Our simulation results show that the probability of engine defect determination is 100% and the probability of engine defect classification and detection is 96%.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of fibrin tissue adhesive and porous resorbable calcium carbonate on the periodontal regeneration of the class II furcation defect in dogs. Class II furcation defect was surgically created on the second, third, and fourth premolars bilaterally in the mandibles of six mongrel dogs. The experimental sites were divided into four groups according to the treatment modalities: Control-surgical debridement only; Group I-calcium carbonate grafting; Group II-application of fibrin adhesive only; Group III-application of fibrin adhesive after calcium carbonate grafting. The animals were sacrificed at the 2, 4, and 12 weeks after periodontal surgery and the decalcified specimens were prepared for histological and histometrical examination. The results are as follows : Clinically, there were no inflammatory response in all groups after 2, 4, 12 weeks. In the Control group, junctional epithelium was grown downward to the reference notch. In Group I, graft materials were exfoliated from the defect throughout the experimenta periods andnew bone was seen in the notch area at 4 and 12 week specimens. In Group II, fibrin adhesive was absorbed at 2 week specimens, and connective tissue attachment increased than that of control group. New cementum and new bone were seen above the notch area. In Group III, the graft material was maintained in the defect throughout the experimental period and inducing the amount of periodontal tissue regeneration was higher than other groups. These results suggest that the use of fibrin tissue adhesive in conjunction with porous resorbable calcium carbonate would improves the stability of graft material and inhibit the epithelial down growth and make it be a feasible method for periodontal regeneration.
